Follow-Up Friday – September 13, 2013

September 13, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Joining me this week is the amazing Flea, who graciously agreed to co-host again.  And she called me crazy.

Abstract Art

So my dog is not the only one that chases the bowl all over the house!  LOL  Many of you commented about the non-skid bowls.  If you look again at the two bowls, you will see that one has a rubber bottom while the other does not.

photo-9

The top one originally had rubber, but it fell off.  That is Delilah’s dish and she eats out of it upside down because she inhales faster than James Franco in Pineapple Express.  I’ve yet to find a dish that slows the eater down, but doesn’t slide around.

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Pam said, “Not much football going on in this house. Hubs is not a sports fan… at all. Not a single sport. If anyone watches football, it’s me… but even I don’t watch much anymore.”

That’s pretty much the same in our house.  My hubby doesn’t watch a lot of sports either (at least not religiously like my son-in-laws do) but he will watch a bit of football.  It is generally me, looking for some type of sport on television.  I tend to favor NASCAR, baseball and football, although I’m slightly pissed off at NASCAR at the mo.

My guys go in spurts with which toys they play with, lately the football has found favor, I have no idea why.

What’s ‘taters’ precious?

Sugar said, “May we suggest something … since you are giving it to Sam w/ his pills … use Greek yogurt instead.”

Thanks Sugar, at the time I didn’t have any Greek yogurt, all I had was sour cream.  I did make the next batch with the Greek yogurt though and they still loved it.

Emma said, “I’m easy, I eat any pill in anything, Katie is a whole different story. She can suck all the stuff off and spit out the pill in about a second.”

Yup Emma, Sampson is the same way in the morning, which is why I have to hide them.

Genevieve said, “It also sounds like you may need to go food shopping.”

You made me laugh.  Yes, I probably do need to go food shopping!

Maggie said, “Emmett and Cooper will eat a pill in anything. Heck, Emmett will eat a pill if you toss it and tell him “catch.” Lucas, on the other hand, is a pill ninja. I’ve caught him carrying one off to spit out elsewhere, thinking he was fooling me.”

Well now I’ve seen Sampson spit stuff out, but never has he carried it somewhere to do so!

2 Brown Dawgs said, “If I made the potato/sour cream mixture, I surely wouldn’t feed it to the dog because it looks yummy. Heck maybe I should make some to take my pills.”

I bet it’d be good.  But what I’d do is make those little tater balls and fry ’em.  Yummo!!

Flea said, “Those potatoes sound GOOD. I’d pop a garlic clove or two into the water when boiling. Maybe a sprig of rosemary. Mmmm. And have you tried Pioneer Woman’s Crash Hot Potatoes? They are our RUIN. OM NOM NOM.”

As a matter of fact, we had them last night. 🙂  YUM!

Oh and by the way, I added that link for you, do you think Flea would have done that?  Heck no, she just tempted me with the recipe and left me to find it on my own.  Sheesh.

So I’ve Got This Paypal Button on my Blog

And it’s working!!  I am getting e-mails and hopefully you are getting e-mails from me confirming your order!

Margie said, “Yes..!! I do see the button, but no PayPal logo.”

Yup, I should have checked before I wrote that!   LOL it is a “Buy Now” button that links you up to PayPal but it doesn’t say “PayPal.”

The Fox and the Hounds

Um, can you imagine if all our inner bitches got together?  Woo Dog, that would be something!!

And I agree, the tail on that fox is thin, maybe I should talk to my neighbor about giving him some kind of supplement. 😉

That’s it for me, many thanks to Flea for co-hosting with me.  Make sure you stop over and say hello.  Have a great weekend!

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that wraps up your week and leads you right into the weekend!

Do you secure your pet when you travel?  Shame on me, but we don’t.  We are hemming and hawing about getting the dogs harnesses, but how do you know which is the best one to buy?

Me neither.  Never fear, my co-hostess this week is Dawn from the Pet Auto Safety blog and she will happily answer any questions you might have.

How do I know this?

I e-mailed her of course.  😀

Aided by her gorgeous models, Pierson and Maya, Dawn will help you navigate the world of Pet Carriers, Harnesses, Dog Barriers, Back Seat Bridges, Car Fences and Window Screens.  She’s knowledgeable, kind and super sweet.

Make sure you stop by her blog and say hello.  Welcome Dawn and thank you so much for co-hostessing with me this week!

You Make Me Laugh – September 1, 2013

I was surprised by how many of you had dogs that did this.  Coincidentally I was doing some research about dogs that regress to peeing in the house (not mine, thank God!) And I discovered female marking is very common!  In fact from what I read, some females actually stand on their front paws and back up to things to do this.

The things you learn.

Emma asked, “Did Delilah pee on her leash or the tree?”

She peed on the tree this time Emma, but at least once per walk she pees on her leash.

Pup Fan asked, “Does she use the tree for balance?”

I think so, she usually starts out with her foot on the tree but at some point she moves it.

Many of you commented that you have male dogs that squat.  Sheena asked, “How do you train a boy dog to lift his leg?”

Sampson was a squatter from day one.  Our trainer Sara told me they learn to lift by watching other dogs and if they haven’t done it by age one, they won’t.  So imagine my surprise when at about 2 1/2 Sampson lifted his leg!  I was so proud of him!  To this day he still squats occasionally but when he lifts his leg to piss on a pole, my chest puffs out with pride.

Jackie’s comment about her dog who loved to hump the hubs when he was doing push-ups made me laugh out loud.  Sampson tried to hump my hubby once too and I still get the giggles every time I think about it.  There I had to stop for a minute to let the giggles out.

Here They Are

Fingers crossed, we’ve got something that will make the ordering process easy.  Don’t worry there will be plenty of time for ordering, since we are not as rushed this year as we were last year.

Little Feet, Big Hearts

Dawn said, “Poor Nyla. Her original owner actually considered putting her to sleep rather than rehoming her? … When there is not even anything wrong with her?”

Nyla 3

Hold on a sec while I pull on my judgy pants.

There, they still fit.  My guess is, they weren’t going to breed her anymore so therefore, they had no need for her.  Of course, that’s just my opinion.  But it makes sense to me.

Hailey and Zaphod said, “Our Lady says she would never move anywhere we couldn’t go. It would be a deal breaker, but she guesses other people make other decisions and she is trying not to judge them.”

It’s a deal breaker for me too Hailey and Zaphod.  I would live in a tent if I had too.  I try not to judge either but in the world of animal welfare I’ve found it’s not that easy.

And thank you all for the great suggestions, I’ll make sure to pass them along to Jen.

I’ll Take Things You See On a Walk for $10 Alex

Animal Couriers said, “Maybe it was the turtle’s life savings?”

Crap!  I never thought of that. 🙂

Roxy the Traveling Dog said, “What an interesting walk. The good, the bad, and the money.”

Dammit!  Why didn’t I think of that title?  That’s a good one Roxy!

Blueberry’s Human asked, “So, did finding the ten dollars make up for the fact that Delilah rolled on a dead frog?”

Well actually it wasn’t all that bad.  Rolling in the frog was better than rolling in poop.  I could see where she had rolled so I had an easier time of washing it off.  Poop doesn’t show up that well on Delilah….unless it’s bird poop.

Pam asked, “I assume something ate it, but why leave the legs?”

I don’t know, I always thought the legs were supposed to be the best part.

Beth asked, “How long do your walks last?”

Usually about 1/2 an hour but on weekends or days off they could go a bit longer.  I sure had a lot happen on THAT 1/2 hour walk!

Sue asked, “And did you buy a lottery ticket, too, you lucky girl?”

No Sue, I did not.  After I got screwed out of that last 328 million it really soured me.  Can you imagine how many dogs I could have saved with 328 million?

And for those of you who suggested my Grandpa was with me, well that made me smile.  I miss him a lot!

Once Upon a Time

I thank you all for sharing and donating!  The last time I checked the webpage Denise was only $331.00 away from reaching her goal.  You are all so wonderful and kind!!

Princess 2

And Princess thanks you too!

That’s a wrap to this week!  This is the Follow-Up Friday Blog hop hosted by Pet Auto Safety and Heart Like a Dog.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Joining me this week and saving my behind is the Fabulous Flea, who is the only flea I actually like.  Please don’t tell me you don’t know Flea, because if you don’t know Flea, you’re really missing out.  I’m not kidding when I say, every time I visit her blog, I leave with a smile on my lips.

Make sure you stop by and say hello.

It’s Here!

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar contest is almost over and it’s a hotly contested race between the Collies.

There’s just something about those Collies.

I’m sorry for those of you who have had problems with the voting.  The tool is a plug-in and I have no control over it.  If I run this contest again next year, I hope to find a better voting tool.  This one works, but it’s not perfect.  Ideally I’d like the photos to have the blog name and voting button all in one.

I did try and answer questions directly on that post seeing the voting period is so short.

So We Have This Snake

Emma has told me her mom is terrified of snakes so I’m not posting any photos.  🙁  Sorry Emma, I never intended to frighten anyone, I thought it was a funny story.  I’ll try not to post anymore snake photos.

Bren asked, “So how long before you move Nagini into the house in a tank?”

Um that would be never.  I can tolerate it in the wood pile, but never intentionally in my house.  True story, our neighbor feeds the racoons and foxes.  On Hubby’s walk the other night her daughter stopped him and said, “My mom heard you talking about a snake in your yard and she’s worried it might come into ours.”

REALLY?  YOUR MOM FEEDS WILD ANIMALS AND SHE’S WORRIED ABOUT A GARTER SNAKE?  WTF?  I’d be more worried about a rabid raccoon then I would about a Garter Snake happily ensconced in a wood pile.

Houndstooth said, “OMG! You said “wood!””

LOL yes, yes I did.  And I just said it twice more too.  Hang on, I’m looking for a way to use “unit.” **giggles**

Pam said, ” I want to see what kind of snake this is!”

Pam, here is a link to the original post.  It has a pretty good close-up of the snake.  I think I proved that I’m not brave enough to get any closer than I have too!  See Emma, no photos. 😀

Tuesday Just Got Tasty at Our House

I never know what to expect when Delilah takes over the blog.  As Donna mentioned on facebook she’s sassy.  Yes she is.  And she’s bold too.  You need never wonder what Delilah is thinking.

Sampson and I waited patiently in the kitchen while she sliced it up.

I’m thinking, give me some treats and give them to me NOW!

Doggy’s Style asked, “I wonder how was the smell in the kitchen. For dogs great I imagine, but for humans?”

It smelled pretty good actually.  Similar to a beef roast cooking.

Two French Bulldogs asked, “Do you ever rent out your mom?”

Um I’m pretty sure Delilah would not let me go without a fight. 😀

Frankie and Ernie said, “GARLIC? We keep hearing that we can’t have garlic… butt it is sooooooo good.”

I’ve heard this too, but I feed my dogs BugOff Garlic to help ward off fleas and ticks and my vet is aware of it.  My understanding is it’s the form of garlic ingested.  Like you should never eat a bulb of garlic.  But I would say that you should check with your own vet before you decide whether to use it or not.

The Fabulous Flea asked, “Where on earth do you find beef heart?”

Believe it or not there was a flyer in my Dr.s’ office for a local farm.  They had tongue too, but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy that.

Pam said, “Put some in the freezer? What? You didn’t demand it all right then?”

Delilah here, “Actually I did.  But she’s stubborn that one and doesn’t always listen to me.  It’s okay, I forgive her though, she’s amazing in so many other ways.”

KB asked, “I’m like your mom about treats – so how do you turn on the oven?”

Delilah again:  “I’ll be dogged if I know, but if I ever find out, I’ll be making my own treats!”

How Do You Define Your Brand?

Thank you all for the incredible comments.  The fact that so many of you get where I’m coming from and what I’m hoping to achieve here means a lot to me.  And you can certainly articulate it better than I can.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want this blog to make some money.  But it would have to be exactly the right fit, I mean you can be guaranteed that you will NEVER see an ad for something I don’t believe in.

Thank you, thank you for reading, commenting and coming back.  I appreciate and treasure your friendship.

That’s it for me, please check in on Sunday when I share something Delilah does that makes me laugh and that I’ve been trying to capture on camera for months.

Thanks to the Fabulous Flea for co-hosting with me and if you’d like to co-host yourself, please let me know in the comments.
