As you know Sampson had surgery last week to remove a Sebaceous Cyst and a fatty tumor. The Vet sent him home with a C.O.N.E.
You know, one of those horrible plastic collars that keep dogs from scratching or digging at something they shouldn’t. Most dog folks refer to it as The Cone of Shame. Why, I don’t know. Is it because most times the dog has done something (s)he shouldn’t have which resulted in an unexpected trip to the Vet?
It breaks my heart to see him in the cone, so as soon as we got in the car, we took it off. As long as we are home to monitor him, he doesn’t need to wear it.
BUT when I leave for work in the morning, I have to put the cone on. I feel like such a schmuck when I put it on him, even though I know it’s for his own good.
I called the Vet to check and they said he has to stay in the cone when we can’t keep an eye on him and he has to stay in it until he has his stitches out, which is Friday!
Friday!
So every morning, just before I leave for work, I put the cone on. I’m quickly learning that not only do I have a Diva in the house, I also have a Drama King.
I’m not sure if cones are supposed to be THIS BIG, but it seemed HUGE on him. And really we only want to prevent him from rubbing the side of his face, so we decided to cut the cone down.
Hubby drew a line and I cut just above it.
We decided that I needn’t cut it any shorter than this, so you can still see the black line.
Cutting the cone down didn’t make him feel any better about wearing it.
And when that didn’t work, he got really desperate.
Hang in there buddy, Friday’s coming!
Has your puppy had to wear a cone? How did you deal? Did you get the drama too?
