When you have a dog like Delilah, holidays can be challenging.  Because siriusly, any time you’re working with food, Delilah has to be there.

You know, just in case you drop a crumb.

We hosted Thanksgiving this year and I can’t tell you how many times I said, “Get out of the kitchen” on Thursday.  After about the 10th time, I put her in the bedroom and put a gate across the door and finished my food preparations.

When everything was ready, I let her out again.  Now the fun begins.  Keeping her from stealing food off the table.

We had 11 people for dinner and the table only seats six, so we added a little card table.  This means the food can’t all fit on the table, so we used the breakfast bar for the dinner food and as soon as dinner was over, we cleaned up the food and put it away.

But then came dessert.  The dessert foods went out on the pool table which is a little bit taller than the breakfast bar or table.  Did that stop Delilah?

Yes, yes she is THAT bold.  And she did it right in front of me too.

I don’t know about you, but I want to get as much as possible out of my turkey.  So as soon as everyone had packed up their goodies to take home, I put the turkey in the stock pot to start my turkey soup.

Remember last week when Jackie Bouchard asked, “So… how does she get stuff out of the sink?? Is she that tall? Does she jump up on the counter?”

There you have it Jackie, the stove is no higher than my sink.  I swear this dog could walk on two legs.  Truthfully I was more worried about her burning her paw, then her licking the pot but it didn’t seem to phase her.

Back story…we had snow the day before Thanksgiving.  The snow had eased up by walk time and I though it would be nice to get up into the field.  

Sampson was absolutely ecstatic.  He would stop to sniff and when he would start up again, he would really try and dig in and run.  Finally, I said what the hell and let him off leash at which point he ran ahead of Delilah and me.   

As we were heading home he heard someone at the top of the hill and he stopped to look.  Delilah and I were a little distance away, but I was snapping photos and when I got home and looked at them, I’d captured this.  I really had to crop it so you could see the pose.

I just love this photo, he’s so happy, you can see it.

That’s exactly how it works in my house too Jan!

Jan said, “When all four dogs converge on the same smell, I am so jealous because I feel left out with my inferior nose.”

I get that, sometimes I do too.  But most times, I’m just grateful I don’t smell the things they do. 🙂

Repoleon said, “My dog Obi once ate an entire small pizza while no one was looking. He must have sucked it out of the box carefully because the box was in the same place on the counter and the lid was closed.”

Oh my gosh!  How do they do that?  My trainer had her dog eat her sandwich out of the wrapper while she was standing three feet away and never heard a sound.  The wrapper was intact.  Those dogs have mad skillz.

I should shouldn’t I?  I’ll could call it, shit my dog ate.  How many of you would buy it? 😉

Jan K said, “Oh, I was waiting for YOU to give ME advice on how to deter Luke from doing these things. LOL Did I tell you that lately he’s started sticking his head in the kitchen sink looking for things?”

LOL if you’re looking to me Jan, I’m sorry, you’re screwed.  I have nothing. LOL  And no, I did not know he’s been sticking his head in the sink.  Delilah does the same same thing. My suggestion?  A large board you can place over the sink.  You can place stuff on top of it too.  That was the only way my turkey got defrosted. 🙂

Yes, she is THAT tall, when she stands straight up on her back legs she is almost as tall as I am.  And NO, thank God she hasn’t figured out how to jump on the counters!  Please don’t tell her it’s even possible.

Emma said, “At our house, dogs aren’t the problem, it is that damn cat bro Bert. He jumps on the table in the middle of a meal to grab food. He is a menace! If we have company over, he has to be locked up or he will be in the food. Hey, maybe you would like a nice male cat???”

No thank you.  I draw the line at cats on the counters and the table….it’s a pet peeve of mine. 🙂

See that’s Sampson.  He’s a golden/labrador mix and he would never even dream of doing some of the things Delilah does.

Thank you all for the beautiful sentiments and Thanksgiving wishes.  I could swear I wrote that I am grateful for you, my readers, for your support and friendship  But when I re-read the post, I see I didn’t.  Please accept my apologies and know that I am truly grateful to have all of you in my life.
