This picture is from about 9 years ago, but he still does it to this day. What kinds of ‘human’ things do your dogs do that make you smile?

Awe you guys, you are so sweet. She really does have a lot of character, I just wish I could capture it every time.
Linda Moore said, “I had a beagle that did the same thing. They have pills for it. They make the shit taste bad. Did you read that? How shit is made to taste worse, I don’t know! But those pills must be crazy gross!”

Sophie said, “This is an ongoing problem with Gus. We tried everything, including the bad tasting stuff from the vet that you sprinkle on the potty.”
My philosophy is if I have to sprinkle something on the potty, I might just as well pick it up. 🙂

It’s a great command. I’ve been working Delilah on “leave it.” We started it on our walks when we are passing other dogs. She’s doing very well with it and has gotten to the point where she sees another dog and she will immediately look to me for her treat. I’m hoping this will translate to the poop and when she sees an enticing pile, she will look to me. Fingers crossed. But you have to see the poop to tell her to leave it. Hehehe
Lauranne said, “Thankfully (and I can’t believe I am starting this sentence with that word but..) thankfully Mity only eats his own poo not other dogs (and yes I nearly typed people, which is a whole other level of ugh!)”
BWA HA HA There are so many things I can’t believe I type.
Michelle said, “My Foxy was a recovering poop addict. She didn’t discriminate either – she’d eat her poop, her brother’s poop, cat poop, whatever she found. I tried all the store bought so called solutions as well different home remedies (feeding her pineapple so her poop would taste bad). The only thing that worked was keeping her on a leash & telling her to leave it & drop it. As she got older, she had a few relapses (as most addicts do) but mostly cut the habit.”
Both my dogs get pineapple every single day. We’ve also used many of the ‘remedies’ with no success. You are right, there will probably be relapses but if we can miss most of it, I’ll be happy.
Jan K asked, “Are you sure you ever want to get a beagle? Because that is like their favorite thing to eat. ”
LOL I love beagles, but I’ve forgotten the gross things they like to eat.
Elaine said, “Luckily, Haley doesn’t eat dog poop but rabbit poop must be a pretty tasty treat for her! Isn’t it funny how some walks are just perfect and other walks make you feel like you should have just stayed at home on the couch?”
With these two, most days I wish I’d stayed on the couch! Especially when someone eats poop. LOL
Blueberry’s Human asked, “Does Delilah enjoy holding things in her mouth? Maybe you could train her to hold a favorite toy on walks so she is less likely to taste everything she sees? ”
If she held something in her mouth, how would she eat poop? 😉 Seriously, I don’t think I could get her to carry something for an entire walk.

Retro Rover said, ” Ive never heard of allergies causing liver issues in dogs, though Id be curious to know. As you know our Ping has elevated liver values. Currently her liver values are good but her cholesterol is sky high so we are working on figuring out whats causing that and if its liver related.”

Pamela said, “I’ve been very lucky and have not yet had a dog with allergies (knock wood). But I can tell you I’ve gotten excellent results working with a holistic vet. …Don’t you wish she could talk?”
I like the holistic vet myself but so far the things he’s given me haven’t helped. As for the talking, only if she wasn’t sassing me, or talking non-stop. Can you hear her, “It’s 9 o’clock, it’s snack time, you know that right? Did I mention it’s 9′ o’clock?”
Blueberry’s Human asked, “What exactly does the cleanse entail? ”
It’s basically a combination of supplements and vitamins that you give the dog for a month or so, then keep up with some of the supplements.
Slimdoggy said, “You might try testing it yourself first. We completely cut all proteins for Jack – gave him single protein (salmon) everything, food, treats, etc. That cleared up his allergic reactions and his pre-IBD. Chicken is in EVERYTHING so it’s not surprising many dog’s grow an intolerance too it. Try cutting it completely.”
Thank you. Chicken necks is part of their diet, so I’ll be definitely be talking to my vet about this.
Jana Rade said, “There is a blood test for food allergies in dogs too. Different vets have different opinions on this. We did it with Jasmine and than ran with the results. It worked out well for her.”
I will check with my vet about this as well. Thank you.
Daisy said, ” My daughter (especially) and I have food allergies too, and our diets have changed exponentially because of what we found out through blood tests. The result is that we feel so much better and many symptoms have cleared up (some things I didn’t even realize were symptoms!), so we know it’s right for us.
I have food allergies/sensitivities as well and I know they cause inflammation in my body, and when I eliminate them I feel so much better. I’ve been told her liver has some inflammation (hence the elevated levels) and that’s what I’m wondering if it could be a food allergy.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “Well you could sure freak the kids out with your prank, but do kids these days really freak out about much?…I guess Blog Paws is doing things differently this year. Instead of doing a presentation to a group, you will be sitting down one-on-one with bloggers? So how long is the meeting and how many will you see?”
I doubt the kids would freak out, but it might be fun to try.
As for Blog Paws, I will be seeing 9 people for 10 minutes each. This is something new they are trying. I will have a basic presentation but hope to be able to offer some unique advice based on a questionnaire I will have the fill out.

Blueberry’s Human said, “One time, when I was less old than I am now, my younger brother and I were in the desert (during the day) and we decided it would be fun to start a fire in one of the designated barbecue grills (we were stone cold sober, btw). Then we thought it would be even more fun to throw various things in there to watch them catch on fire (plastic, etc). We never realized that extreme wind plus a roaring fire near a dry desert tree would equal things getting out of control. The tree nearest the grill caught fire SO FAST. Thankfully, there were some old people in RVs nearby and they graciously put out the fire with jugs of water.”
OMG that must have terrified you. I am pretty sure these kids don’t really know what could happen if they were careless.

My Devious Mind
We have a pretty nice park at the top of the street. Yes it does have a LaCrosse field and we do have to share it for about three months of the year, but it’s very easy to work around their schedule.
There are some lovely hiking trails surrounding the park. One of the trails leads out of the park and from their, you can hike to any number of lovely areas. The other trails are fairly short. You could wander for some time following all the different trails or you can make a quick lunch time walk pretty easily.
Most of the trails are marked but there are some trails the deer and other wildlife have made and if you know the woods well, there’s no issue with following these other trails.
While the dogs and I absolutely adore the woods, the park does not come without its challenges.
Those are trees that have either fallen, or the kids have broken them.
I worry about animals getting a hold of the debris, or cutting themselves or worse, swallowing the broken glass and the bonfire….well some of the area around this park does not have public water, they are on wells. Should the fire get out of control, well it could burn a neighborhood down.
When I stumble upon this mess, it gets my writer’s mind wandering as to how to rectify the problem. I mean, apparently the kids aren’t afraid of fox, coyotes or fishers. I’ve thought about pranking the kids. Is it right? No. Is it funny? I don’t know, you tell me.
The kids are all sitting around the bonfire, they’re swilling alcohol, smoking cigarettes, maybe a little pot. They’re laughing, maybe telling jokes or ghost stories.
All of a sudden, they hear a chain saw start up and then the sound of a woman screaming. The screaming gets louder, whatever it is it’s coming closer, then suddenly a woman bursts from the wood line, she’s got blood dripping from her face and she’s screaming “Help me, help me!” She stumbles out into the field, followed by a man swinging a chainsaw.
See I told you it wasn’t right. 🙂
BUT while I was thinking about this post, I came up with another idea for a book. Honestly, now all I have to do is write the damn things!
