For those of you who’ve raised a puppy, you know potty training is at the top of the list.
Sampson was a good puppy. My memory says he was very easy to train, yes he tinkled in the house a LOT, but he only pooped once. If I recall we had him trained within a month to six weeks.
One of the more important things I remember about potty training a puppy is to watch your puppy for signs they have to potty. For Sampson his poop sign is getting as far away from you as he possibly can.
This is kind of difficult when he’s attached to you by a six foot leash.
Of course, this time of year he’s really impeded by the snow. A sure sign Sampson is going to poop is when he starts climbing the snow banks.
The snow along the sides of the road is still fairly deep. He climbs into the snow bank and he’s sinking up to his chest in snow.
I didn’t figure it out at first, I just kept laughing at him and calling him a doofus. Of course, I also was a little concerned about injury, I worry he’ll slip the wrong way and damage his other leg.
When he finally squatted and the poop rolled into the street, I figured it out. The next time he climbed the bank I tried reasoning with him. Come on buddy, let’s just go home, it’s only 30 steps away.
Apparently he doesn’t understand that.
Either that, or he just doesn’t give a…
Well that saying won’t work here.
Delilah on the other hand, will go wherever and whenever the mood strikes her. And she gives no warning signs.
You’re walking along, then she stops and poops.
She has pretty good aim too.
Yesterday she had a hole in one.
Yup, that’s a paw print right there. She got the whole poop right inside that one paw print.
Maybe I should sign her up for golf lessons.
