Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally just wrap up my week.
You Make Me Smile – November 9, 2014
Frankie and Ernie said, “We will bet that your dad LOVED the greeting that you gave him.”
He sure did. Sampson even got up out of bed to greet him and that’s saying something. 🙂
Jan said, “When we are gone, it is a long time in dog minutes.”
I know right? I tried to figure it out, but could only get so far as every 52 days is like a year. My brain got fried trying to figure out the hours. But I know it’s a long time!
Dumb-Assery – It’s an Industry Term
Okay before we get to comments and questions I have to say this. I’ve been paying close attention to this house on our afternoon walks and I’ve discovered that there is an enclosed porch or sunroom at the back of the house and the door is kept open so the dogs may not be locked outside all day long.
Still it does not negate the fact that the dogs do their business on the deck, never get walks and have attacked my dogs on three separate occasions. I also have to say, that these people have had parties at their house and people have been out on that deck. I want to scream across the street, “Their dogs shit where you are standing.”
Molly the Wally said, “OMD and they are teachers? Lordy goes to show education does not = common sense.”
Thank you Molly, that is exactly what I thought.
Sue said, “Very heavy sigh – “How do you educate the ignorant?””
I wish I had an answer Sue, I really do.
Pamela said, “This story falls under the “why do you have a dog?” category for me.”
Agreed Pamela, what’s the point of having a pet if you don’t interact with them?
Jan K said, “I cannot believe that deck….! I don’t even know what to say about that. Ours will occasionally go on our deck….but only when there’s snow on it!”
Mine have gone on the deck too in the winter, when it is covered in snow, but only then!
Sarah at Lola the Pitty said, “I’m banging my head against the wall right now. Whyyyy on earth do people like this have a dog or get a dog in the first place???”
Why do they get a dog in the first place, never mind three!!
Blueberry’s Human said, “That gives new meaning to the word “poop deck”. Maybe they think it acts like a guard against the elements so that is why there is so much of it left there. I would think every time they open that door, especially in warmer months, that stink has got to waft through their house. How nasty! I would be very tempted to go to the nearest facility that allowed me to create my own pottery and fashion a poop shaped pottery piece and then gift wrap it for them with a little card that says, “I can tell you enjoy gazing at poop because of all the piles on your deck, so I made this ceramic poop just for you so you can have it inside of your house too! Sorry that it doesn’t smell – maybe next year I will find you a poop scented candle! From, your non-poop-deck-loving neighbor.””
BWA HA HA HA HA You make me laugh so hard.
Sherrie Petrie asked, “Owners like that just chap my backside – has anyone turned them in to the authorities yet?????”
Not that I know of Sherrie. It makes me wonder about the people that live on the side of them, wouldn’t you think that poop smell drifts? Especially in the warmer weather. Their next door neighbor has an in-ground pool and they spend most of the summer in it. I wonder how many candles they go through?
Stud Tail
Cupcake said, “I guess when you’re a stud, you’re a stud. There’s no hiding it. ”
Hehehe, I had that thought myself. 🙂
Emma said, “Nice for him and you that he is so enthusiastic about the vet, Katie and I are definitely not and I often have to be carried in because I refuse to walk in. About 2 yrs ago my tail was hanging low on our walk and Mom noticed a big bubble on it. Shortly after we got home she realized I had popped it and it was a bloody, goopy mess. We went to the vet and they said it was an infected gland or hair follicle. I got some meds for the infection and had my tail carefully wrapped up. It healed really fast, but what we found interesting is how fragile a tail is and that you always have to bandage loosely because the blood flow is poor and if it is too tight, it can cut of circulation and part of the tail can die real quickly. Scary, but good to know.”
Oh Emma, I’m glad they were able to fix you up. (And also that you are small enough to be carried into the Vet. I bet Mom is too.) I did not know about tail wrapping either, so thanks for that information.
2 Brown Dawgs said, “Yes I have heard of it. Freighter had a bit of it when he was young. His fur was a bit of a different color (lighter). He never had a bald spot or infection. It cleared as he aged.”
I should have gone to you first. 🙂 Did you ever blog about it? I don’t remember reading about it, but then again I don’t remember what was for dinner last night.
Jen said, “I’ve heard of Happy Tail (which I’m glad Sampson does not have) but never Stud Tail. That’s kind of an….icky name for it.”
You’re right. I wonder where that comes from? And Ewww on the Happy Tail. 🙁
DZ Dogs said, “Ziva has a spot like that! I wonder if it’s the same thing…can you post pictures?”
Yes of course, here you go. It’s kind of hard to see.
While I’m taking about DZ’s Adventures, did you check out her post from yesterday? Any of you active folks heard of Joring?
My Dog is a Dick
So many of you agreed that dogs can be manipulative, but not in the same way that people are. We teach our dogs if they behave in a certain way they get certain things. Apparently I have taught Sampson if he stops every five steps in the field, I will un-clip him. What a bad dog owner I am.
Lauranne said, “The lead does look painful – have you considered a lead splitter?”
I did. Before Sampson hurt himself I was actually on the look out for one. Then I found one, but it was too short. Now that he is doing better, I need to get back to that mission. Thank you for sharing and reminding me.
Monika said, “Many years ago before Sam was on the scene, when I had two wayward and quite ‘puckish’ Old English Sheepdogs, I used a coupler that was about 18″ long that clipped to both of their collars and eliminated the need for 2 leashes. The leash would clip to an O ring in the the middle. ”
I was looking for about a 2-footer I think, but it looks so short. However….(see Flea’s comment.)
Flea said, “Pop over to my post today. I think the leash idea might be better for your dogs. Might need a longer one, though.”
PERFECT. For those of you who haven’t seen it, Flea did a review of the Snap Leash today, I actually think that would work out perfectly, combined with the dual leash I already have!
DZ Dogs said, “Have you tried to teach your dogs that walk time is “working time”? We give our dogs permission to sniff and specific sniffing times while out on our walks to keep things fun for them, but they know that when the leash is clipped on I expect them to walk nicely in a “heel” position and walk with me. Following my lead, where I turn they turn, I stop they stop, I slow they slow, etc…no sniffing during this “working time”. They look around and their eye gaze checks out the cats, squirrels, bikes, and other stuff we come across but no sniffing, no stopping at their whim, and no stopping every 5 feet to pee on something.”
How far away from me are you? I would love to teach my dogs that. When time is unlimited it bothers me less, but more often than not, I’m on a bit of a schedule and then it is troubling.
Well that’s it for me, remember there is still time to join the Dumb Ass Dog Owners Blog hop, Mary and I hope you will share your stories and link up.
Have a great weekend!
