Can a dog have cabin fever?
I believe they can and I present my case below.
Within the last couple of weeks, a certain Labrador has been getting into some mischief.
Two weeks ago, she decided the dog couch is a giant stuffy that needs to be destroyed. More than once, I’ve come home to find bits of the couch on the floor. I’ve taken to wrapping the cushion in two towels, with hopes of stopping her destruction.
I’ve caught her checking in the sink to see if there were any goodies in there for her.
Last week she casually pulled my empty paper plate off the table next to me. She’s ripped up an empty oyster cracker baggie (don’t look at me, Hubby left it on the floor). And one day, I found a little wooden apple on the floor. I’m not actually sure where she got that.
My final piece of evidence….Last night I’m pretty sure she ate some butter (including the wrapper) that Hubby left on the counter, while he popped out of the kitchen for a minute.
It’s not like she’s not getting walks, because she is. It’s not like her walks are shorter, because they aren’t.
I can only come to the conclusion that it’s cabin fever. Or maybe it’s the shorter days, and the fact that most of our walks take place in the dark.
What do you think? Have you been experiencing any unusual behavior in your house of late?

The earth grew dark and those of us suffering from SAD — seasonal affective disorder — i.e. me, my dogs and Delilah need understanding.

What some call “unusual” behavior, others call GENIUS behavior. Go for it, D. And save some butter and butter-paper for me!
Love and licks,

Nothing weird here. We are always pretty worn out from walking, playing and training, so we enjoy lots of resting up time. The pillow explosions have slowed down a bit even. Not sure what has gotten into Delilah, but think of it as some puppy coming out in her, and embrace it. As long as no one is hurt, including her, sit back and laugh.

Sounds like cabin fever to me, too; but all of us here have it as well. We are so sick of rain and bone-chilling wind! Ducky gets the zoomies and poor Shadow has to watch out for fear of being knocked over. Hopefully the sun will come back out today so Ducky can get back to running around out in the yard.

That’s exactly what I called it with Luke – cabin fever. just imagine if Delilah was younger, and wasn’t getting her daily long walks (we’ve had some pretty cold days up here). If only we could get Luke and Delilah together to burn off each other’s energy…then again, that would just be double trouble! 🙂

Cabin fever coupled with being a Lab…definitely a recipe for some kind of food disaster.

The poor dog couch! Rye has been finding things to destroy lately, too–thankfully, it’s just been junk mail or tags I hadn’t cut off a new sweater or empty toilet paper rolls. I’m not sure why Rye has cabin fever, though, because we’ve been walking normally and she’s had at least one day of dog sports every weekend this month, so you’d think she’d be tired! Apparently tired isn’t in her vocabulary. Thanks for sharing Delilah’s antics–they made me laugh on this cold, icy morning!
