I often think that old saying, “Opposites attract” has a lot to do with the Yin and Yang of life. The light and the dark, the good and the bad, the funny and the serious, they complement each other.
If someone were to look at the physical and personality characteristics of my dogs, they’d pretty much determine they are as opposite as two dogs can be. Sampson is peanut butter, and Delilah is chocolate. A perfect food combination, and a striking pair of dogs.
While the general Labrador personality is goofy and fun, the thing I like most about Labs is they each have their own, unique personality.
Delilah is Yin. She is darker in color, harder to train, stubborn, impatient, demanding, naughty.
Sampson is Yang. He is lighter in color, easy to train, easy-going, patient, gentle, social, obedient.
Some would say, old soul, new soul. I guess it just depends on your philosophy.
I was reminded of the Yin and Yang yesterday morning, when I was preparing breakfast for Sampson and Delilah.
I looked over, and there was Sampson, patiently waiting for me to finish the prep, and serve him.
Where was Delilah?
Why in a perfect heel, right next to my leg.
Of course, I picked up the phone, and took the photos, smiling all the while.
You make me laugh, or smile, the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that bring a smile to the face, or a laugh to the lips.
What did your pet do that made you smile this week?

Mom’s dogs years ago, Trine and Katie, were black and white. They too were quite opposite, old and young, mellow and wild, well behaved, no interest in behaving, but both wonderful dogs.

Shadow and Ducky, too. Shadow is my sweet, gentle, patient soul. Ducky is my impatient, bratty “child” who makes me crazy. Totally different in appearance and personality, but both loved to the ends of the universe and back.

Aww the perfect yin and yang combo.

I love those pictures of how they wait for food. I’m like Delilah–I don’t like to be too far from where my meals are being prepared either–you never know when you might get a chance to taste something a little early!

Yes, D. I agree with the pupper philosophy of “never get too far from the food prep.” You two kids are the perfect pair, in every way!
Love and licks,
Cupcake

It’s as if they were given their choice as puppies: do you choose to live life as yin or yang?

{hee, hee} Girl dogs always seem to race to the “head of the class. “Boys seem happy to patiently wait (and probably outa harm’s way). Elsa is the silent stealthy dog, right behind me in the kitchen dog (posed to up-end me), Sam is happy to ‘wait’ outside in the dining room. Personally I think he’s terrified at getting squished by a fallen mum.

Having dogs with different personalities definitely keeps things more interesting! I love that old dogs teach new dogs some things, and their habits get carried on. Luke does a lot of things that the other dogs taught him. His latest is going to the pantry for treats, like Cricket taught him. It makes me smile every time.
