You’ve all heard the stories of what Labradors eat…just from Delilah I can say, baker’s chocolate, butter, color pencils, play dough, dryer sheets, well, the list goes on and on.
There’s a house at the end of the street, and it has a little tree in the from yard. In the fall, this little tree drops little apples. I’ve always thought the apples were crab apples, mostly because of this gal.
Naturally these apples are particularly appealing to a Labrador. I mean, if you’re willing to eat colored pencils, you can only imagine what an apple smells like.
We do work on the leave-it command on our walk, but at 6:00 am I’m not always paying attention, and Delilah knows it.
It’s the funniest thing really. She picks up the apple and tries to bite it. I’m assuming it tastes terrible, because she shakes her head, and curls her lip. She looks like she’s doing the Labrador’s impression of Elvis. LOL
Sometimes she drops it on her own, sometimes I have to convince her, but it doesn’t stop her from the next time.
And she doesn’t limit her munching to apples. Nope, I have to keep my eyes sharp, because she’ll eat anything that smells like food.
I usually laugh at her silly antics, especially because she keeps trying despite the fact every apple she’s ever attempted to eat off that tree, hasn’t tasted well.

Soooo, what are you saying? We SHOULDN’T eat things that taste nasty. Hmmmm… I never thought of that. #eatfirstaskquestionslater

Having grown up on a street lined with crab apple trees (such glory in the spring with their exquisite blossoms-such hell in autumn when those buggers drop everywhere and kids squish them in the sidewalk), I can just picture Delilah contemplating the adorable roundness of a ball or the tart taste dilemma. Decisions, decisions. To eat or not to eat…that is the question.

Oh Delilah, you have one crazy appetite! So does Ducky, but luckily we don’t have any crabapple trees! I can just imagine the results if we did – I don’t even want to think!

Poodles won’t eat anything that doesn’t have a picture of a dog on it. And broccoli, they love broccoli.

Delilah is an eternal optimist….she is convinced the next apple is going to taste better! 🙂

Oh silly girl. We have a crab apple tree across the road – fortunately neither are interested. My parents lab loves apples.

We can’t imagine a dog who eats everything. I’m a bit picky, Madison is a nightmare as she doesn’t like to eat food or treats really, Bailie is out best eater, but she too is a bit picky. Better leave those crab apples alone so she doesn’t get crabby!

I love this series! When he was younger, Bear’d eat {or lick} just about anything a couple times. Once, he even downed a huge mound of dip that was way too spicy for me. I got up to get a glass of water and came back to a plate licked clean and a snoring cat on my laptop. Sorry? Nope.

Great post!
I know how it is – Kala wants to taste, lick and nibble on practically anything she finds remotely fun or interesting. I always have to be on a lookout.
