Between my two dogs, we all know which dog is the good dog. Anytime there is something destroyed in this house, we know just who to look to.
We often times joke about the destroyer really being Sampson, who then sits back and watches Delilah get accused of his dirty deeds.
Don’t get me wrong, when Sampson is playful, and sometimes when he’s stressed, he will destroy a toy, but other than that, he’s such a good boy.
Many’s the time I’ve walked out the door and gotten to the gate before I realized I’d left his leash inside. I have actually left him at the gate and told him to ‘Wait’ and he’s still standing in the exact spot I left him when I get back.
He’s never been a counter surfer, except when he was younger, he did go on the counter for Filet Mignon (no-one can blame him for that) and butter.
In fact, he loves butter so much, my sister’s nickname for him is ‘Butter.’
We recycle in my house. We recycle pretty much everything, glass, cardboard, paper, plastic. Because we have so much recycling, I hang a plastic bag on a door know in the kitchen, and when the bag gets full, I take it out to the bin.
For the past week, an empty butter box has been waiting to go to the bin, and at some point, it fell out of the bag and made its way to the floor.
Confession: Delilah loves butter too, and so I left the empty butter box on the floor to see how long it would take for her rip it up.
The butter box stayed on the floor for two to three days, before it was finally noticed.
But it wasn’t Delilah….
So what do YOU do when your good dog turns into the bad dog?
Well, if you’re me or Hubby, you take pictures and record it.
And after you’ve gotten all your photos and video, (and your dog is ripping the butter box apart) you give the dog some butter. π
The funny thing is…there wasn’t a smudge of butter in it…just the smell.
I’ll be working on getting that video up on our Facebook page. Β You can check us out on Facebook by finding the little Facebook icon.

I don’t think we have ever had butter unless it was in something. We do know several dogs who do enjoy stealing and eating butter, though. We have everything locked up tight mainly for cat bro Bert who is the worst when it comes to stealing things.

Butter and bacon are totally irresistible smells to anyone with a nose. Cute pictures.

Delilah must have been in the other room smirking at first, because Sampson fell for the trap! But then she must have been wondering “what the hey” when he didn’t get scolded for it. LOL!
I never knew some dogs liked butter until our golden retriever Moses stole a whole stick off the counter and ate it (no ill effects either). Now Luke would do the same, so all butter has to be kept out of reach. But I let him lick the wrapper when I open a new stick, or the dish if I’m going to be washing it.

LOL I’m just glad you gave the poor boy a taste!

Barley stole a whole stick of butter once–the results were things that I can’t erase from my memory no matter how hard I try. Despite being disgustingly sick, she still tries to steal it any time I turn my back when it’s out. It always amuses me when they go for an empty box that doesn’t have anything but the scent left!

What Cupcake said! But you really do have to laugh when an otherwise “good” dog – like Sampson or my sweet Shadow – does something like ripping apart a butter box. I just rejoice when my sweet girl does something silly because it means her arthritis isn’t bothering her as much at that particular moment.
