My dogs haven’t had a rawhide treat in years. I guess there are some things you just never forget though.
A couple three houses down from me got a Labrador Retriever puppy sometime in April. It’s been amazing watching her grow. When I went to Myrtle Beach in May, she was a puppy and when I came home a few days later, she had grown tremendously.
There are still a lot of people who give their dogs rawhide, and apparently Ginger is a dog that still gets one, because for the past week or so, there’s been a large rawhide chew right on the edge of their grass.
A couple of days ago, the rawhide managed to make its way into the street.
My dogs always seem to do the funniest things when I don’t have my camera handy, which is why I didn’t get the photo of Sampson trying to carry the rawhide home.
I did manage to snap a couple of photos of the dogs checking the rawhide out. For the record, they’ve both licked it and picked it up.
But they happily leave it for a treat.
.
Coincidentally, both dogs have been taking the same route for the past few days, despite the fact they usually go a different want.
Who says dogs don’t remember?

We used to have rawhides all the time, but it’s been a few years now for us too. So many other better chews out there for us.

I love the caption under the photo of D-dog! She and Ducky have some very similar attitudes! LOL. Maybe it’s their similar early-life experiences?
My girls haven’t had rawhide “bones” or other toys/treats since Callie was about 2 or 3. (Which means Ducky’s never had one since she came to live with us.) I doubt Shadow would even bother with one any more except to sniff at another dog’s scent.

I’m convinced dogs have a memory much like an elephant when it comes to spying squirrels, cats and all manner of treats on walks. Much to my chagrin and shoulder pain! LOL

I would certainly never say that, I’ve seen plenty of evidence that they have great memories!
What good dogs they are leaving that to get a treat. I actually don’t think either Luke or Cricket have ever seen a rawhide in their lives. We gave them up long ago, I think Kobi was our last dog to have one.

I don’t give my dogs regular rawhide, but they would not turn it down if someone offered it to them. In the store the things that have them attempting to shoplift are the bullysticks and springs. (Which I also don’t buy, because I believe they are essentially rawhide as well, and still pose a danger of choking or intestinal obstruction.)

They just don’t usually remember the things we want them to remember. My dogs always remember that place where we startled a squirrel on a walk years ago but often forget to heel.

My guys have never ever had a rawhide chew. Never will!
Mine remember where the stinky, fun to roll in, stuff is so they can go back and roll again!

Dogs totally remember! We don’t get rawhide either and I know it would be hard to leave if they found it in the street.

lily much perfers biscuits so she probably would have left it alone after a good sniff. i would have picked it up and tossed it up into Gingers yard. i do that for our neighbors dog whenever i find one of his lost tennis balls next to the road. safer for the dog if its in the yard then next to the street.

I can’t believe that pup left her rawhide! Barley hasn’t had one in years, either, but when she did, she would never leave one unfinished (which is part of the reason she hasn’t had one in so long), especially not where someone else might find it!
