We are a day late on this post, due to our participation in the Go Pet Friendly, Pet Blogger Challenge.
You make me smile, (or laugh). The sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.
Today, my little granddaughter turns six. (Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!)
Because this past weekend was her “Birthday Weekend,” we had a sleep over on Friday night. When the grandchildren are over, or one of them sleeps over, the dog’s schedule gets thrown off a wee bit. Oh, they still get their two walks per day, and of course they still get fed. What I mean by their schedules being off is, when the grandchildren are over, the dogs typically get less ‘quiet’ time for sleeping.
I know the dogs love the kids, because they get super excited when they get here, but typically, there is not a lot of interaction between the kids and dogs.
Sampson is such a special dog, and he’s super protective of the kids. So when the wee granddaughter went to lie down, it was no surprise that someone went with her.
What did surprise me was when the wee one got up in the night to potty, and wanted me to go with her, someone else got up and followed her too. Then he followed her back to bed, where he remained for the rest of the night.
That made me smile.
I would like to mention, that most nights, Sampson doesn’t sleep in the bed. And he has NEVER followed me to the bathroom.
Just sayin’.

Small people sometimes need more watching and guarding that large people. S has his priorities in order.

We dogs can tell when we are needed. There are no kids around our house normally but when our neighbors had a baby in the summer, five years ago, Katie became a guard dog for the baby. If the baby was outside, she watched it like a hawk and did not like others coming near it. It was amazing to watch, and very sweet too.

Aw… so, so sweet. Have to say though, it has been many years since I’ve gone to the bathroom alone 🙂

Good boy, Sampson! You know that the little ones need extra “protection” that we adult uprights don’t require.
Happy Birthday to your sweet little granddaughter from the girls and me!

Sampson is such a good boy! I don’t think Barley would handle little ones coming into her world quite that well–and Rye would be more than happy with a lack of quiet time. She thinks everyone always needs to be on the move, so a kid visiting would be her idea of a perfect day 😉

That is so sweet. Dogs seem to know that small beings need to be protected.

Sampson is such a sweetie! There have been times when we’ve had company over and my dogs just ignored me completely the whole time (unless it was meal time)! Now that the girls are older they don’t pay a lot of attention to company….they don’t want anything interfering with their nap time; though Cricket will hang close to people when they’re eating. 🙂

Gah…could the cuteness factor of that photo be any bigger? Sampson, you are such a sweetie. Wishing your granddaughter a ‘pawsome’ #6. 🎂
