Around the Yard

August 2, 2016 By Jodi

I’ve got wicked writer’s blog today, so thought I’d keep it simple.

About a month ago Hubby was outside cleaning up the yard. He was raking leaves by the fence, and was surprised when something moved. He took some photos with his phone and sent them to me.

Look at how cute those little ears are.

Look at how cute those little ears are.

The little guy climbed right up the fence, and didn’t seem to be afraid of Hubby at all.

Opossum on fence post

I was thrilled to see him, I understand they eat ticks.

I’m just glad the dogs didn’t spot him.

We’ve lived here almost nine years, and this is the first Opossum I’ve seen. What kind of wildlife do you see around your house?

What do you do when you get writer’s block?

We see ‘possums down here all the time, but usually on the side of the road. In the nearly 23 years I’ve lived here, I’ve never seen one in the yard.

As for writer’s block, I don’t worry about it; but that’s me.

We have skunks, chippys, snakes and a big old fat woodchuck. When I have writers block, I don’t write. I’ve been blocked my entitle life!

We have cats hiding under cars and trying to jump out and kill me. ‘Nuff said….

    Love and licks,

Lots and lots of wildlife here: coyotes, bobcats, possums, raccoons, armadillos, ground hogs, squirrels, rabbits, voles, snakes, turtles, toads, frogs, and even a bear once! Hmm, I bet a bear sighting would vanquish your writer’s block! 😉

That little guy is adorable! I would probably hunt him and get in trouble, but Mom would want to make him a house pet!

Possums are always around, they just don’t tend to make their presence known. We have them and also raccoons who I rarely spot either. Fox, deer, thousands of squirrels and bunnies, an occasional wild turkey, and recently a young black bear I wasn’t lucky enough to see.

He’s cute, that is a critter I’ve never seen before. Today, we have birds and bunnies outside. Last night I heard an owl.

We had a baby possum once. I was afraid the dogs would hurt it so I lured it into a large container with food and called Animal Control. They promised to release it in the wild.

I’d much rather see him than the bear we’ve had lately, and the porcupine we had a while ago! We have deer sometimes too, I love to see them (as long as the dogs don’t).

If I get writer’s block I’ll usually just scroll through photos and try to find something that gives me at least a little bit to say, and if it’s not much, there’s still a cute photo to share. 🙂

I have no idea why but I think opossums are super cute. That being said I’m glad your hubby is the one that found him and not me – the sounds they make freak me out.

As for writer’s block I like reading blogs in other niches. Whether it’s a gardening, parenting or science blog – something about reading stuff outside my “norm” gets ideas going. Lately I’ve been looking at funny dog memes a lot as well – those seem to spark some great ideas.

I normally think opossums are so creepy, but htat one is actually pretty cute! At our last house, which was only a few miles from here – we saw SO much stuff, even though we’re in the burbs of the BIg City. Saw opossums, snakes, squirrels, bunnies, raccoons, even a bobcat once! Also would sometimes see coyotes in the ‘hood, but luckily never in our yard!

They eat ticks? I did not know that. You need a pack of possums. 🙂
