You make me laugh (or smile,) the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.
Sampson, the way you stop what you’re doing when I bring out the camera…
you make me laugh.
This photo was taken one morning last week. Every morning after the dogs eat breakfast, I wash their food bowls and I also wash their water bowl and fill it with fresh water.
Sampson usually waits while I do this and the day before, he’d waited by the spot I place the dish and when I set the dish down, he remained lying down and that’s how he drank his water.
The next morning, he waited a little further away, and so wanting to snap the photo, I brought the bowl to him. He took about three licks and when I turned the camera on, he stopped and looked at me.
And that’s when I laughed. (Although truthfully, I probably cussed too.) 😉
Any tips for snapping candid photos?

When your dog is a diva – there’s no such thing as a candid photo. #dogkardashian

Bailie and I don’t mind the camera a bit, so it’s hard to give any tips. I run to be front and center any time the opportunity arises and I get mad when I hear the camera shutter and I am not the one being photographed. Katie is the tough one but she isn’t doing many photos these days.

LOL I’ve given up on candid photos. The dogs here the zip of the camera bag… or the little ding when I turn it on… or even just see me touch the camera and they get excited. I’m sure they think we’re going to do a treat review. Oh, then they’ll sit or whatever I tell them, but that cute moment that I really wanted a picture of? Gone.

For some reason getting out the camera around here is reason to stop what they’re doing, and get up and move! I have to be very sneaky to try and capture what they’re doing. Luke sometimes get excited when he sees my good camera out too, because he knows it usually means treats.

He loves his picture being taken. Have a great Sunday.

Sometimes I take the picture from a little further away – with my phone – and then crop it in the editing tools that pop up at the bottom of the screen. That way, the girls don’t know – until it’s too late – that I’m taking the picture. It doesn’t work 100% of the time, but it works well enough most of the time.

No tips from here. I long ago gave up being a photojournalist blog.

I wish I had some tips. Since I have a big ass handheld camera (no smartphone) every time I pick it up Laika gets excited because she knows it means we’re going outside to do something fun. I know that look though, and it cracks me up. The look that a lot of dogs get when the camera comes out.

Jimmy has always disliked having his picture taken. He refuses to look at the camera most of the time. With the thousands of photos I’ve taken over the years, I do get some cooperation, but not enough. So Jimmy is actually better at candids as he doesn’t have to look into the scary giant cyclops eye.
Wilson has always been a wonderful super-model. He would always look right into the lens. But try and get a candid and he immediately stops doing whatever cute thing it was. Sigh.

Unless they are asleep, it’s next to impossible to catch a candid. Despite mental protestations to suggest otherwise, these are deviously clever creatures…we are just mere humans and quite unable to keep up with their brain power. 🙂
