The following story originally appeared on my free WordPress blog back on June 4, 2011. Facebook reminded me of this post yesterday and I thought it might be a good time to share it again.
I love going back and looking at old posts, both to see where I was with my writing and blog (the original post had no SEO title, no SEO description and no SEO key words) and also to remember stories and fun times with the dogs.
For this particular post, I’d been blogging for just about 7 months.
Looking back on this post I can see that my writing has changed a bit, but Delilah still retains a lot of her quirkiness.
Yum Yum Pancakes…Day One Hundred, Eighty Six
We had just moved in to our current house, when I had the urge to make pancakes. Being the ever resourceful person that I am, I pulled out a box of Bisquick and whipped up some pancake batter. (Do you ever wonder how something that makes pancakes, can also make biscuits, dumplings, shortcake and pot pie batter and all taste different?)
I had the griddle on the stove and while I waited for the pan to heat up, I ran into the den to check something on the computer.
I left Chet sitting on the couch, not more than 15 feet from the stove.
Thoroughly engrossed with whatever I happened to be doing, it took a minute for the slurp, slurp, slurping noise to permeate my brain.
“What the hell is that?” I thought.
Curiosity got the better of me, so I left the computer and made my way back to the kitchen area, where I found Delilah, front paws on the counter, face in the batter bowl, slurping happily away.
By the time I got the camera, she had licked off a majority of the batter. (I have since learned to keep my camera handy.) **I may have learned it then, but you all know that right there is no longer true. 🙂
Meanwhile, Chet (who once heard me whisper something to my daughter from one floor away) was sitting watching TV, oblivious to what was taking place barely 15 feet from him.
Yes, we still ate pancakes and yes Chet got the first one. 🙂
So there you have it. What do you think? Has Delilah changed a lot? Do you see a difference in my writing? Do you ever go back to the beginning to see how your blog and voice have evolved?

Oh boy! Mom says most men just don’t pay attention like women do. We are always excited when left under the care of a male human as we know we can get away with a lot!

LOL I didn’t know you back then and had never read this. I kind of knew you weren’t going to say she was snatching half cooked pancakes off the hot griddle, but I was still cringing! 😉

Well, at least it was chocolate brownie batter she ate!
Yes, there is a bit of a change in your writing but I can’t describe what it is….
Since my blog is mainly photos with small snippets of writing, I don’t think mine has changed much. It’s been going for 7 years now though! Thanks for reminding me I missed that date on June 1st!

Cute story! Barley LOVES pancakes–she always gets the first one. I laughed when I read you still ate the pancakes–Barley’s put her paws up on the stove to devour the end of banana bread that was cooling–I cut off end she’d sampled and ate the rest 😉 It smelled too good for me to not get any of it!

I love going back and revisiting old posts. It’s fun to see how much has changed over the years.

LILY’S VET Visit UPDATE
overall her visit went well. they were even able to get a pee sample. ( this time we rememberd to not let her go pee before we went in )
she has been doing so much better now that summer has arrived. lily has been going to this vet since she was a puppy so they know her very well.
in addition to the fish oil capsule we have been giving her daily since about April we are to start her on Glucosamine daily.
during the time swe were waiting for the day of her vet apt. telling myself not to worry so lily wouldn’t pick up on my feelings I realized something that has changed my outlook and feelings about her aging process. Lily has been with us since she was just atiny puppy. she knows she is loved and cared for. being here for her during this phase of her life is a blessing because we can be there to help her through it and doing all we can to help her through it. what ever happens she knows she won’t be going through it alone.
that we know her well enough to a. notice when something is off b. to hear her when she is letting us know something. for example
shorter walks. sure there is still grief esp. when she is having a rough day and we can’t wish it away for her but being here for her is a blessing that I’m so thankful to have realized now. I’ve shared this with my husband and it’s helped us both so much.
Thank you for the informative article and for taking the time to do so. your caring to do so was definitely not taken for granted.
Thank you to all of you that took the time to comment and the info. shared.
I felt hugged and a sense of calmness that I believe helped me to realized the different way to look at the aging process.

I think one of the first posts I read by you was when Delilah stole the chicken out of the kitchen sink. So no, she sure hasn’t changed!
Your writing does seem a bit different. I think if you told this story now, there would be more cursing. 🙂

Cute story. It reminds me of why I prefer little dogs who can’t reach very high. I like to look back at posts I’ve written in the past but it get scary when I can’t remember writing them

I think you’re both still funny and quirky and irreverent. Plus pancake batter is still delicious…
Love and licks,
