Before I share today’s You Make Me Smile, I’d like to take a moment to wish all of you moms, a very happy Mother’s Day.
Whether your baby is two legged or four, furry, feathered or finned, celebrate the beauty that is you and give yourself a giant pat on the back!
You Make Me Smile
You make me smile, (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.
Sampson, the way you keep on eye on me when you know I’m getting ready to leave you….
You make me smile.
So it kind of makes me a wee bit sad too. Because he does this on the weekend when he sees me getting ready to go out and run errands. As he’s aged, he’s developed some separation issues, so when he knows I’m leaving, he follows me around.
Yesterday he followed from the living room, to the bathroom, to the bedroom and back to the living room again. Sort of like a little lost puppy.
What do your pets do when they know you’re leaving?
Michelle says
Oh how I love Sampson!
Happy Mother’s Day Jodi!
Cupcake says
Nice try, S. But when moms have to leave, they have to leave. I’d suggest my strategy of looking sad and shivering, but for the record, that doesn’t work either!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Emma says
We know everything. We can tell by the sound of the clothes if it is a running or walking morning…for running, I just stay in my bed, we know when Mom is going to the office, and we stay put. We don’t follow her around, but we did when we were younger. Katie has always been very independent, and now moving around is too hard, so she doesn’t get followed. Happy Mother’s Day!
Sue says
Aw, Sampson. Like Emma said, Rudy and Rosie seem to know if I’m even thinking about leaving home without them. Rudy gets anxious – just a little hyper – and hangs closer than usual. Happy Mother’s Day, Jodi!
Hailey and Zaphod says
My Phod always gives me the sad eyes when I am getting ready.
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Happy Mothers Day to you, too, my friend!!
Aw, poor Sampson. It’s so sad when they start to have age-related separation issues. It tears at your heart to have to leave them. In Shadow’s case, it’s not having Callie around to keep her company when we have to leave her. She has been MY shadow since Callie got her wings. I can’t go from one room of the house to another without her joining me (unless she’s sound asleep) most days. I guess she’s afraid of losing me, too.

What a totally adorable picture.
My dogs usually get out of bed in the morning to see me off, but it kind of depends on the temperature. We have no separation anxiety yet around here.
Julie says
Cocoa gives me the look for sure. And she gets in her crate long before she has to and looks at me with the saddest hound dog face. Happy Mothers Day!!
Jan K says
It’s hard enough to leave them, but when they look like that! Luke follows me around as well, but Cricket hangs close to the kitchen, since she knows they’ll get a treat when I leave!
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
Oh Sampson, you are too darn cute. Happy Mother’s Day!
Taryn says
After they are positive that we won’t invite them along, they dash upstairs to the front bedroom and watch us leave. After that I’m pretty sure they have a pillow fight based on the way all the bed pillows are on the floor when we get home!
Lauranne says
Oh look at that face, you are a stronger woman than me. I don’t know if I could ever leave him if he looked at me like that, Sampson do not show Poppy that look!
Monika & Sam says
Sam acts much like my kids did when they were dropped off at daycare. Heartbroken for about 87 seconds, then it’s run around and then ‘pawty’ like it’s 1999! Hope you had a pawsome Mother’s Day, Jodi! ღ
2 Brown Dawgs says
Poor Sampson. I bet he wishes he could go along.
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
Oh he looks so pitiful.
My guys start jumping around barking because they are sure they are going too! They are sometimes very disappointed.
Cheyenne can relate, she has really started to show her age over the last several months, her rear end doesn’t always want to hold her up and if one of the other dogs wiz by her she loses her footing. I took her with me the other day to visit friends and she was not doing well about half way through the visit and it got worse as the day wore on. By time we left she couldn’t jump up in the van, she tried but fell back on her butt and couldn’t get back up, I had to lift her back end up and in the van. It makes me so sad to know my time with her is winding down.
