I don’t know about you, but for me, this whole Daylight Savings shit is for the birds. Apparently a lot of folks are fed up with it too, over 100,000 people have signed a petition addressed to Congress to end this cruel and inhumane tradition. (Feel free to pop over and add your voice.)
I mean, last week we were walking in DAY light, catching a beautiful sunrise and this week, we need to gear up with lights and drag our sorry asses out of bed in the dark.
The dogs don’t care for it either. Usually both dogs pop up and out of bed when I do, but yesterday Sampson didn’t get up and Delilah DID but she went back to bed.
I’m tired because it takes my body time to adjust to the time difference and I think the dogs are tired too. I mean how else can you explain what happened yesterday morning?
First I have to share this. When I walk on a street, I face on-coming traffic. This is something my parents taught me when I was a child.
Is this NOT a thing anymore?
Because the kids I see today are always walking with traffic and news flash! There are way more distracted drivers in this day and age than there were when I was a kid! I mean what if some dip wad isn’t paying attention because they’re twiddle fucking around with their cell phone? You want to see that crazy mother fucker so you can jump the fuck out of the way, right?
Sorry, I digress.
Around my neighborhood you learn where and when to the cross the street. We don’t walk on the same side as THIS house because the freaking dog likes to charge the e-fence and has made me crap my pants and clutch my heart more times than I care to count, and we don’t walk on the side of the street as THAT house because they don’t clean up after their dog and there are disgusting piles of shit that I don’t want the dogs sniffing, never mind walking through.
So Delilah and I were crossing the street to avoid THAT house and I reached for a treat to reward her for paying attention to me.
Now here’s the thing about Delilah and treats. She LOVES them and she’s a Lab and has never really understood the concept of calmly taking a treat. She sees your hand reach for your pocket and she loses her mind and tries to run over to that hand. At some point, she typically wraps the leash around either herself, or me, (or both) or knocks the treat out of my hand. In this case, it was the latter. She knocked the treat out of my hand, and neither one of us saw where it landed.
So she started sniffing around in the road. When you have a dog like Delilah, you know whether she got the treat or not. In this instance, clearly she hadn’t.
Did I mention it was dark? And the feeble light I had on my hat wasn’t making enough light for me to check the road, so I whipped out my phone to access the flashlight feature and started looking about. Of course Delilah was looking too and guess what? Neither one of us could spot the treat.
I raised my flashlight a little higher so I could expand the search area and it was then that I spied it.
It was on her back.
Yeah, apparently when she went for the treat, it flipped over her head and landed on her back.
It’s always the last place you look.
How do you feel about this Daylight Savings thing? I hear at least 8 states are considering doing away with it, but with varying degrees. Some want to do away with the fall turn back, while Rhode Island wants to switch to Atlantic time…
Tomorrow we’re guest blogging on the Jones Natural Chews blog to help Miss Flea out while she battles cancer, so pop on over to give her some love and tell her we sent you. 🙂

Oh my gosh I am so with you on Daylight’s Saving Time! I hate it, too! It’s totally thrown me off. The dogs don’t like it, either!!
Meagan & Merlin says
Daylight savings does stuff me up a bit and it takes a few days to get used to it.
The treat on miss D’s back reminds me when i was playing fetch with Merlin and the ball bounced and landed on his back and he was spinning in circles trying to get it and it stayed there til he stopped spinning. I wish i had that on video lol.

Daylight savings time has never bothered me, but I did hear yesterday on the radio it is the biggest day for accidents while driving! I kind of found that hilarious!
lauranne says
Oh bless her, good job you had a second light or you’d still be looking for it – if she’s anything like Mity used to be you wouldn’t have moved from that spot until the treat was found!
I am not a fan of day light saving, unless we always put the clocks back an hour… never forward always back, an extra hour in bed and it would work out right once every 24 ish years. Now there’s a plan!
Emma says
We vote to abolish the time change nonsense! As for walking in the dark…did you not get the memo about the current correct way? Always wear black and keep your back to the traffic and the dog out in the street…people just have no common sense anymore! We always face traffic, and have our neon blinking lights on, so we cannot be missed. I guess if you have a death wish do whatever, but we prefer to live and walk safely in the dark.
Mary says
One reason I could live in Arizona, they don’t play into the time switching shit. I was saying the other day, I think the government uses it as a control thing. Everyone hates it, it serves no purpose, makes zero sense, and yet they still force it down our throats. The day is not longer, or shorter, or any different. Just the time perception.
Jan K says
I am SO with you on DST…it takes me a week to catch back up on my sleep, no matter which way it goes. Even when everyone is excited about gaining the hour in the fall, for us it just means the dogs are up at 4 am instead of 5 so no one really gains anything ever.
I laughed at loud at where you found the treat! You couldn’t do that if you tried!
The link to the petition didn’t work…but something needs to be done about this foolishness. I don’t think different states being on different times is the answer though, something needs to be done nationally.
Monika & Sam says
We’re with you. DST is stupid and makes no sense in this day and age. My Circadian rhythms will be out of whack for more time than I care to imagine. As for kids nowadays…there is no explanation. We have created an entire population where rules don’t matter and heaven forbid we stifle their ‘creativity’ for fear of wrecking their precious little tender souls. Blech. Yeah, I’m becoming that “get off my lawn!’ kind of lady apparently. 🙂
Mary Ann says
I don’t like DLS either. It keeps getting harder for me to get adjusted. I almost missed my bus stop last night because I fell asleep! It throws everyone off and caffeine didn’t even help!
But, I can’t complain about it being lighter later at night now. I like that part.

I always imagine one senator saying to another: “If we can make the American people switch times twice a year we can make them do anything.”
I’m off to sign the petition.
Hailey and Zaphod says
I think it is time we said goodbye to Daylight Savings. It was so dark on our walk this morning it made me sad.
DZ Dogs says
You need some noxgear vests for your pups! It totally helps with our dark walks. 🙂 And yes, my mom taught me to face traffic while walking and I do it when I run too.
Julie says
Haha, so funny!! I am not a fan of dark in the mornings because that is when I like to run with Cocoa. I do like it light later but I really do not understand DST. Yes, I understand why we needed it forever ago but not now. It only messes everyone’s internal clocks up. We have an abbey on our road and people stay there and can walk the grounds but they chose to walk in the road. On the wrong side. It makes me crazy because it is SO dangerous!!
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
That is hilarious!!
Yes I always walk toward traffic, I want a fighting chance to jump out of the way. And I keep my dogs on the inside away from the road.
I don’t mind the fall back but I sure hate that spring forward seems like it jumped forward 5 hours instead of just one. I still have spring forward jet lag :/
alexa88 says
on her back lol still laughng as i write this
Cupcake says
GAH! Good catch, D. You kept your treat nice and clean on your back. No road dirt to worry about. Mom and I don’t feel any different in Daylight Savings. We are both afraid of the dark, so we’re happy to have it stay light later at night. We don’t go out till 8:00am, so there’s that.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Beth says
Ugh. I don’t even want to think about DST. It was finally starting to be light out when I got up to get ready for work and now it’s back to being dark. I just can’t handle it. I love the ending of this story, though! That’s definitely happened to Barley before.
Dachshund Nola says
That’s kinda hilarious, poor girl!
I fucking HATE the time change. Hate it with the fire of a thousand suns.
Taryn says
I detest the time change! I have to get up at 5 for work, and now it feels like 4 (because it WAS just a couple of days ago!) I wish they would pick one and stick to it year round!
2 Brown Dawgs says
Good thing you found that treat! I like daylight savings time. I love the longer summer days.
