Tuesday night we had some snow. It wasn’t a lot, but enough to coat the roads. I was super excited to walk the dogs yesterday morning because Sampson is just so jubilant in the snow.
So when the alarm went off at 5:30 yesterday morning, I got right up and dressed for a cold walk in the dark. Sampson got up, I put his harness and light on him, then he went back and laid down. Delilah ignored me.
I put on my treat bag, grabbed my phone and my pepper spray and walked to the door. I called out, “I’m leaving.”
Nothing.
I opened the door and shut it.
Nothing.
I said to Hubby, “Well I guess neither one of them want to walk.”
Hubby said, “Well then don’t go.”
And I admit, for a few seconds I was tempted and then I thought. “Hell no! I’m up and dressed and I’m taking a walk, with or without dogs.”
So out the door I went.
I’ve stopped taking my camera with me in the morning because…well it’s dark. And since I use the point and shoot, I don’t have time to fiddle trying to take pictures in the dark. But I forgot how light the world is when it’s covered in snow and dawn is breaking. So there I stood, alone in the dark, looking at a beautiful world with no camera.
I’ve also forgotten how destructive a Lab who hasn’t been exercised properly can be. While I was readying Sampson for our afternoon walk (which they both went on by the way) I heard a ripping noise and Delilah had gone under the Christmas tree (hey, it’s fake and I like looking at the lights, don’t judge) and taken one of my boxes and destroyed it.
Once I saw that destroyed box, I knew Delilah needed a walk. I was happy that both dogs were eager to get out and get some fresh air.
It was super cold, with strong wind gusts, but we got out and got our walk in.
But apparently it wasn’t enough exercise for someone, because I came home to this.
And last but certainly not least, I have some folks in Blogville that I need to thank.
First, just before Christmas I was gifted a beautiful necklace from my friend Sue at For Love of a Dog. If you’re looking for beautiful, hand-crafted jewelry, look no further. Sue’s work is incredibly detailed and absolutely stunning.
Yes, this is what was in that box that Delilah destroyed.
And secondly, we were one of the top commenters on the Jones Natural Chews blog last year and so Miss Flea sent us a special package. Delilah’s nose knows Jones and Rocky’s Rollers are one her favorites, so thank you very much Flea for the special treats.
Welcome to Thursday’s Barks and Bytes Blog hop hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog. We hope you will grab a badge from one of our websites and join us.

Boxes. It’s what dogs on a high-fibre diet eat.
Stunning necklace!
Gorgeous necklace! Thank goodness Delilah didn’t try to eat it along with the box!!
Send some of that snow down here! It’s winter. It’s supposed to snow – not rain – in winter. I’m sick of rain, especially cold bone-chilling rain that lasts three days and nights. It puts a BIG damper on our backyard fun!
I never even heard of not wanting to go for a walk. If Mom so much as tightens the laces on her shoes, I turn to a heat seeking missile and she is dead center on my radar. #takemetakemetakeme
Love and licks,

I know Jimmy hasn’t had enouogh exercise by the volume and frequency of his indoor voice! He really let’s me know when he has surplus energy.
You need a Vimtag camera to catch that destruction in action! We use ours all the time now! It is extremely rare when we don’t want to walk, but even when we aren’t ready to go at the door, the mean mom finds us and we have to go. Can’t imagine your pups letting you walk alone! Not polite at all.
Oh no. I guess Delilah has cabin fever.
Wow, I don’t think Rudy or Rosie would ever willingly let me go for a walk by myself! Especially in the snow. Maybe they thought you needed some alone time? Looked at that picture of Delilah’s destruction and thought to myself, oh no… sure looks like “my” box and hoped it was empty. LOL You’re very welcome and I’m just glad you like the necklace. Words just aren’t enough to thank you for helping me begin to work through a truly terrible time in my life. Thank YOU, Jodi.
Ha! Wow, this reminded me so much of my house!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
If Cocoa is not super tired then things will get destroyed!! It really is so beautiful in the mornings. I have a hard time getting out in the cold but once I do it is wonderful.
You’re a brave woman going out in the cold alone! Even if I get all bundled up, if Barley says she’s not going out in the cold, I know I’m not, either. I will happily snuggle back up in bed with her while I drink an extra cup of coffee 🙂
Brrrrrr. I love that necklace, how cute is it?!
You got more snow than we did, ours was gone by morning.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a dog that didn’t want to go on a walk, or go outside with me. When I was sometimes jogging by myself last summer/fall, they were not at all happy. But I also don’t get up to go at 5:30 am either! They might decline that, because they do like going back to bed after their breakfast. But I suspect if I was going, they would go.
Winter is finally really here and it has been darn cold the last few days. The dogs don’t care…they still expect to get their daily play time. With the girls I could skip a day here or there….maybe….but not with Luke. He doesn’t get destructive, but he gets whiney!
I tried to keep our tree up, but it’s a real one and I got shamed into taking it down. I really miss the lights.
Did you ever find out why they didn’t want to go for a morning walk? I would be very suspicious of what I would find when i came home.
Hahahaha, I’m a mean mommy and make them leash up anyways! 🙂 I hate walking by myself.
We think the tree rat got a hold of that box but we bet it was a good walk any how. Nice prize

That’s so funny the dogs didn’t want to get up! It’s good that they were ready to go later! 😀
My dogs are not morning dogs at all. They try to go back to bed when we get up super early to take them somewhere. LOL
Cardboard must be particularly tasty, I can’t think of any dog that doesn’t jones for it even when they’ve had a good walk. D-dog just makes me smile with her ‘say what innocent look?’ 🐾
Oh my gosh, that must have been really weird for the dogs to not want to go on the morning walk. We usually just walk once a day so Haley’s always ready to go, but with your 2 or 3 walks a day, I guess they thought they would just catch the next one, lol!
Looks like my house with shredded boxes! What a lovely necklace! Sue does beautiful work.
