Friday morning we packed up the car and the dogs, and headed to my sister and brother-in-law’s house in the wilds of New Hampshire. Ok, so technically it’s not actually wild, it’s Littleton, but it’s in the White Mountains and it’s fairly rural, so I call it the wilds.
I was a bit nervous to go up there because my sister has three dogs and her living/dining/kitchen area is all hardwood flooring. I was worried that five excited dogs and hardwood floors could be challenging for Sampson and I was concerned he might slip and hurt himself.
I figured we won’t know unless we try, so I dug out my Dr. Busby’s toe grips and threw them in the dog’s bag along with all their other gear and off we went.
I’m happy to report that my fears were unfounded. Even when the dogs got super excited, Sampson did very well, in fact, I didn’t even need to put the toe grips on him.
One of the things I really love about going to New Hampshire (besides visiting my sister) is walking the dogs on her property. Her house sits on 11 acres, most of which is free of trees. Her driveway is quite long and just walking that is good exercise for the dogs. PLUS, they can be off-leash as long as I keep a close eye on them.
Even Delilah…
She moved so fast, she was just a blur. (Not really, it was just me taking a crappy picture when I was trying to walk and keep up with her).
I was extra cautious about taking the dogs out off-leash because one of my sister’s neighbors saw a mountain lion walking up my sister’s driveway!
My sister and I did take the dogs for a nice walk on Saturday, but mostly we hung around the house, just spending time together.
The view from my sister’s dining room…
The dogs are pretty respectful of each other. There were only a couple of times when JD was a jerk to Delilah and then a couple of times when Delilah was protective of our room, but for the most part the weekend passed without incident.
All too soon it was over and time to head home again.
How was your weekend? Did you do anything special?

It sounds like you and the pups had a really fun trip! š
They have toe grips?! You mean I could get rid of all theses crazy mismatched runners!? Lol! Glad to have you home! Miss you the most, even when you are only 3 hours away!
So glad you mini trip went well. I stayed home and did nothing.
Sounds like a great time! I’m not sure I’d have allowed my girls off leash if I knew there had been a mountain lion in the driveway! Maybe on an extra-long leash, but not completely off leash. We mostly stayed home. But we did meet Sam’s sister and brother-in-law for a nice luncheon in Braselton, GA, on Thanksgiving Day.
That all looks pretty wild from where I’m sitting. I’m happy the doggies got along and the mountain lion didn’t show up. Yikes. S and D would stand a fighting chance. I’d be a finger sandwich for that guy!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
What a fun time!
We did a lot of longer hikes but nothing special like where you got to go!
I bet that was so nice, for you and the dogs.
I’m glad you got to spend some time with your sister and enjoy the beautiful surroundings!
If I had a view like that I would get nothing done all day.
That sounds super fun. It is always fun to visit places in the middle of nowhere, but we couldn’t live that far out. Mom likes modern convenience too much. Glad no one was eaten by a lion…I could see you running into one. What a post that would make and I bet the photo of the kitty would be blurry too as you would be running!
How fun does this sound! I’d be staring at that view all day.
I always loved letting Daisy off leash to run and walk with me but I can’t do it with Cocoa yet. That looks like a beautiful place to explore and it’s good the dogs all got along. 5 is lots of pups!!
So glad you had a good time up there and everything went well with the dogs! I love Littleton, it’s such a pretty town. It’s only about an hour and a half north of us. We used to go up to the mountains a lot more, and rented a cabin for a few days up there once. We never took the dogs though….hope to do that someday.
Well, with these photos, I can see why you wanted to ‘go over the river and through the woods…’ Looks like everyone had a great time and what a view! š
That’s a beautiful area!
Really didn’t do too much, but amazing as it seems, lunch on Friday was eaten OUTDOORS at a restaurant. Even here in Virginia, dining al fresco at the end of November is pretty darn special! I wasn’t even sitting in the sun and was was still comfortable!
What a lovely weekend at a lovely place.

Sounds like a nice visit. 11 acres no trees sounds like a good place for some training. š
