You make me smile (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis that brings a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.
I realized this yesterday, sometimes my dogs make me smile for no apparent reason.
Yesterday when I was vacuuming, I looked over at the couch to find Delilah like this.
And it immediately brought a smile to my lips.
Why would a dog sleeping bring a smile to my lips?
Take a look at the photo.
- She’s stretched out. Not curled into herself like she’s in ‘protect myself’ mode.
- See how her back is to the open part of the couch? She NEVER sleeps with her back to anything but the wall or the back of the couch.
I smiled because in my mind, my girl finally felt comfortable and safe enough to actually relax.
When I look back at how far she’s come, it makes me smile too.
Do you ever look at your sleeping dog and just smile?

Aww gorgeous girl 😊My fave pic of Merlin is of him sleeping with his back end on the couch and his front end on the floor. How they find the positions they sleep comfy is beyond me.

Brave girl, D. – turning your back to the vacuum! Yikes. Mom usually smiles at me in my sleep because I’m on my back, shaped like an S, with one leg sticking straight up, my lip is caught on my teeth, my ear is inside out, and I’m snoring the word, “Woof. Woof.” What’s so funny about that? Go figure…
Love and licks,
Cupcake

Did she used to fear the vacuum? Now with Katie almost deaf, Mom can vacuum right up to her and she is not scared. I can totally see why this photo would make you smile!

I bought a new bed this summer. It has two levels of drawers on the base and the mattress is very high off the floor. It’s taken the dog four months, but he finally figured how to jump up on the bed. He was so proud of himself he did it over and over.

She looks completely and totally relaxed and content and that would make me smile too.
I often do the same…just seeing them happy makes me happy!

When you think of the awful sounds dogs hear from the vacuum that we don’t. this is even more remarkable.

Awww, that is so sweet. Delilah looks like she is full of trust and peace 🙂

She looks very relaxed.

I love when a dog sleeps in a position that shows they’re totally secure. 🙂 As for Rita, it makes me smile when she falls asleep on the couch with her head hanging off the edge. How can that be comfortable? Doesn’t the blood run to a dog’s head like it would with a human??
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Callie used to do the same thing! Or, instead of the couch, she would curl up in the recliner with her head hanging over the edge. How on earth could that have been comfortable?!
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Always! Like you with the D-Dog, I look at Ducky and smile at the thought of how far she has come in the three years she’s been with us. Callie was a great surrogate mother to both of her younger sisters, and she taught them well. Her spirit now guides them. I truly believe Callie did more to “train” Ducky than I did. Yes, I worked with Ducky on her obedience training; and disciplined her when she was ugly to Shadow. But it was really Callie who taught her how to behave and disciplined her – doggie style – when she misbehaved. I really think she has learned more from her older sisters than from me.

I wonder if our dogs ever stare at us when we are sleeping and if they do, what are they thinking? I doubt we look all that cute with our mouths hanging open and drool dripping onto the pillow, hair smooshed in an unattractive manner.

I would smile when I see Honey sleeping. But I’d probably just get a mouth full of fur. 🙂
Delilah looks adorable. I hope she doesn’t roll off the couch, though.
Monika says
I think D-dog is officially more secure than me. I’d never sleep like that (I’d probably end up falling on my tush or head when I rolled over!). Well done, D (and Jodi-all that patience is paying off). 🙂

That picture made me smile too. Straight away I looked at it and thought that’s one happy dog!
Rebekah says
That would make me smile too. After 4.5 years, my Bruce still sleeps with his back to the wall.

Awe, I think her toes were cold.
