I saw that meme on Facebook last month. Actually I think it said, “October is my favorite color”, but seeing as we are already into November, I’m going with Autumn.
Autumn is my favorite color and also my favorite time of year.
The days are sunny and warm without being hot. The bugs (except for the ticks…ugh) have pretty well gone away. You can walk the dogs in the woods without need of a jacket and you aren’t bombarded by bugs.
The nights are cool and crisp. No need for an air conditioner. You can open your windows and let the night air wash over you. You can light a fire in the fireplace, snuggle up with a blanket and a dog and enjoy a hot chocolate or hot apple cider.
But what has to be my favorite about Autumn is the colors. Yes it’s true winter is beautiful with its blanket of white and stark coldness. And Spring has all the pale, beauty of nature in its rebirth. Summer brings the bright blue skies and haze of humidity, but Autumn, Autumn has a vibrancy all its own.
We have a time frame called, “Peak Season.” It’s when all the leaf peepers as we call them, hurry to the north woods to enjoy the colors that only come with Autumn.
I think it’s called “Peak” because the colors are at their height or peak of vibrancy. Leaves will be bright and bold one day and the next, they have the dried, brittle look of having gone past their prime.
Since Winter with its cold sterility follows Autumn, I’ve been diligently snapping photos to keep my heart and hopes warm and alive as we wait out the long, tediousness that can come with Winter.
I’ve weeded through and here are some of my favorites.

This house is on my street, you can see there’s a bit of green, yellow and red here. The day was overcast and made it seem like I was looking through rose colored glasses.

This house is the on the backside of mine. There are huge boulders on this property and the landscaping is so beautiful.

I think these trees are called Japanese Maples, these are on someone’s lawn and look so pretty. The bigger trees on this street are mostly towards the backs of the yards, so this bit of color just draws your eyes in.

This is on our way home from the woods, there is a break between some trees and you can just see bits of sky. The horizon you see at the bottom of the frame is actually our state capitol, but you can’t really tell because it’s so far away.

This is the entrance to our park. In this photo, the leaves have gone beyond peak. But still the gold is beautiful.

The other day on our walk I noticed the ground cover had changed color too. I stepped into the woods and was awed by the red color.
Of course the dogs are enjoying Autumn too, there are so many smells as many animals are readying themselves for the long winter.
What are the colors of Autumn in your area?

Enjoy 🙂 Only summer year round here so I enjoyed your pictures. 🙂
Gorgeous pictures! The acorns are driving me crazy here, too. Where the heck are the squirrels?? In the cartoons they’re always collecting those things and hiding them. Slackers! Cupcake tries to eat them. I was told they’re delicious food for donkeys. I don’t know much about Cupcake’s DNA makeup, so maybe……
I too love autumn for all the beauty it has in coloring our world. Beautiful pictures.
Here in the land down under right now its spring. Lots of pretty colours and hayfever season. In winter my boyfriends friend judges the weather on how many dogs he would need to keep him warm at night. For example he might say “its a 3 dog night tonight” lol. I love your pictures of the forrest.
It is really amazing how beautiful the leaves are!! You take wonderful pictures. Cocoa and I went on a trail walk yesterday and the trail was covered in crunchy leaves. I love the sound of that.
Thanks for sharing all that color! I love autumn, the very best.
It’s been a gorgeous autumn here too – some trees actually have four colors at once, which is stunning. We’ve also got tons more acorns than usual, and I’ve heard the same from people in many different states. Doesn’t that mean a tough winter? Yet they’re predicting a mild one. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Oh wow!!! These are gorgeous photos!!! Autumn is just so beautiful!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Most of the leaves around here seemed to have changed, peaked, and fallen all in the same 24-48 hours. It happened so fast that we didn’t really have a chance to enjoy it.
The acorns from our two oak trees are much smaller than the ones back home on Long Island; but they’re just as treacherous. Especially when they’re hidden among wet leaves. And our squirrels aren’t doing their jobs either! They’re too busy razzing the girls, and our neighbors’ cat.
What beautiful photographs! Since we are way past peak here and in that drabness in between fall and winter, it was good to see all those colors again. It has actually been warmer here this week than I’d like it to be!
BTW, we’ve had at least 2-3 hard freezes here in between the warm spells, and I’ve still picked ticks off the dogs. UGH!
One of my favorite season soo. Pretty pics!!
Wish we had all those beautiful fall changing leaves over here

We love autumn too. The gold leaves with the sun streaming through make such a beautiful color, but we really love the red leaves on the ground.
Pretty pictures. Most of our leaves have all dried up and fallen now. They last such a short time. Up at the cabin they come late in the spring (June) and drop before November. Good thing we have a lot of pine trees for color.
