Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally just wrap up my week.
You Make Me Smile – October 11, 2015
Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s mom said, “Callie used to like it but she also liked to pretend it was a bother. Silly girl. Shadow likes it but only for a minute or two. Ducky loves it, especially when I make it into a game.”
Both my guys really enjoy it. Delilah likes it when I play ‘bull’ with her and the towel, it winds her up.
Cupcake said, “If I don’t wear my raincoat, Mom attempts to (paper)towel me off when I come in from the rain, but I take off running and prefer to dry off by doing squiggles and somersault on the couch and then licking my legs like they’re Popsicles.”
Oh yeah, that happens at our house too, which is why the towel is always ready! What is it about licking your legs? Sampson does that too!
Jan K said, “No, my crew does not like being toweled off. They see me with the towel and go running.”
Oh Jan…I can’t recall if Delilah has ALWAYS liked it, or if she’s just gotten use to it, but she now expects it and it will sit there with her back to me (like a princess) awaiting the towel.
Margaret says, “Abby loves being toweled off. She will come to me & bury her head in the towel, rubbing her face in it. She absolutely loves it after baths or being in the rain or snow.”
Aw, that’s so sweet. Doesn’t that make you smile?
Sue said, “My crew are very patient about being toweled off and Jeffie loves it. Used to make the Dog Daddy very mad, but Lucy did not want him drying her off – she ran to find me.”
LOL maybe the Dog Daddy was not as gentle as the Dog Mommy is. 😉
Jan says, “I forget. We haven’t had rain for so long I have no memories of any of the details.”
That stinks Jan. I hope you guys get some rain soon.
Hailey and Zaphod said, “I never do it, maybe I should. Mostly they want to go roll around on my bed after it rains!”
Yes! And then you have a bed that is wet and smells like wet dog. Try the towel, your bedding will thank you. 🙂

Judith Ann Gouveia said, “It is getting harder to find smaller companies that make high quality dog treats. So many are getting bought out by the big conglomerates.”
Exactly Judith and that is so discouraging to me. I used to love Merricks but since they got bought by Purina, I’m not buying them anymore. I like that Jones has been in the family for so many generations.
Emma said, “Mom loves that they are just like human sausages! She cuts them up and uses them for our nose work and tracking high value rewards.”
Mom is smart. They are a high value reward, my guys just love them!
Julie said, “I like to support the smaller business too and also those that do good. I make sure I know what I am putting in my mouth as well as Cocoa’s too but I have to laugh because Cocoa will put lots of stuff in her mouth when we are out walking. I can’t even count the times we have fished stuff out :-)”
Oh my. Just yesterday morning I was walking the D-Dog and we were going down the street with little apples all in the road. (I don’t let her eat them if I can help it because I’m not sure if there are pesticides on them or not.) So there we are walking along and I say, “Leave it” and give her a treat. I keep walking and say “Leave it” again and go to hand her a treat, but she’s still chewing. Of course it takes me a few seconds to realize, she didn’t in fact leave it, she was munching on an apple. I think Cocoa might be related to Delilah.
Mary Ann said, “I haven’t seen Jones treats in Minnesota. I will look for them next time I go shopping.”
The pet stores around here carry a limited supply. You can check your local feed stores or Tractor Supply stores, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for, go to their online shop. You can order anything from there.
Jenna,Mark “Husky-Crazed” Drady said, “They sound great! My huskies are drooling hehehe 😉”
Hehehe, I think most dogs would drool over Jones. They’re that good!
Annie B said, “One of my pups has a delicate tummy that can’t handle “exotic” foods. So the short list of natural ingredients is a big selling point for me.”
They are really limited. Most of their products are just meat. Like the woofers, I think they are just ground beef patties. And I think their products are beef, chicken, lamb, pork, venison and rabbit. That’s it. Nothing really exotic.
Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s mom said, “I like that Jones is family owned and does good things for its community.OH! And I love your pajamas!! They look nice n cozy like flannel sheets!”
Ah yes. My youngest gave me these flannel pajamas one year for Christmas. They are so comfy and warm, I just adore them. And I agree with you about the community. I love a company that gives back.
Clowie asked, “I’d like to know why all bipeds are obsessed with making a decent-sized treat smaller?”
Spoken like a big dog. 🙂 You don’t HAVE to make the treats smaller…it just goes a little further when you do.
House Trained – Barks and Bytes
Jackie Bouchard said, “Oh, Jodi – having margs and getting into a little trouble with you just went on my bucket list! ”
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!! Jackie said she wants to have drinks with me. Oh this is going to be epic!!
Jan K said, “I’m pretty sure if I hung out with both you and Jackie, my face would hurt a lot from laughing so much! What fun that would be…I love both of your senses of humor.”
Ooohhh, that would be SO fun!!
Meatless Monday – Be the Change for Animals
So, I snuck in a second post yesterday. 🙂 I forgot about BTC and had already planned for Jackie’s book review, so I made a quick little post, to support what I consider to be a great cause.
I’m not sure if you heard or not, but the BTC website was hacked a few months back and the hackers made such a horrific mess of the site, that the team just can’t get it cleaned up. SO, the Amazing Kim Thomas found a way to keep the change going, she’s co-hosting it with Sue at Talking Dogs.
I just don’t understand what hackers get from doing that.
Sue said, “I sometimes thinks there’s an intentional disconnect. I mean, if you DO know about how meat animals are raised and treated today, you really would want to NOT think about it, right?
Honestly? I think you HAVE to have some kind of disconnect. I know some of what goes on and if I want to sleep at night, I have to shut it off. 🙁
DZ Dogs said, “I love eating meat, I don’t really desire to change. But good for you!…We do however support human treatment of animals, purchase locally when we can, and buy free range/grass fed beef and chickens. Someday I want to have my own farm and raise my own beef cows and chicken to eat, I think people should know where their food is coming from and respect the animal that gave its life for you to eat.”
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good piece of meat myself! 🙂 I like that you are conscious of where your food comes from and that you look for humane treatment, local purchases, grass fed, free range and that you respect the animal that provided it. I wish more people did that. 🙂
Julie said, “I don’t know near as much as I should and need to do something about that. I need to research more and become better educated about where our meat, where all our food, comes from.”
I feel like it’s important to know what types of things I’m putting in and on my body. And I think everyone should educate themselves about Monsanto, Big Beef and Big Ag, those are some seriously bad people.
That’s it for me, thanks for joining me and have a great weekend!

Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Like Lauren said, have an awesome weekend, my friend! Oh! And I want to be included in the fun with you, Jackie, and Jan K!
Clowie says
I’d still prefer to get the whole treat, all at once! Drool…
Have a great weekend, everyone!

I agree with Clowie! Broken treats are inferior.
Love and licks,

Emma says
I kind of got hung up on the Rocky Rollers part…so good…then Mom got stuck when she read steak. Yes, she is a carnivore. Mostly chicken, but loves a good steak. It is a hard thing to love animals and eat them, but somehow it works in her mind. Have a great weekend!

Great follow up! So glad you swung into action and joined the BtC4A blog hop. Thanks, Jodi. And I want in on that party with you and Jackie!! 🙂 (And Jeffie does, too, if Rita is going to be there)
Earl Lover says
Brilliant follow up again, Jodi! 🙂
Jackie Bouchard says
Great follow up. Hope we get to have that drink some day – and would be great if Jan can join us!
Jan K says
That’s really too bad about the BtC4A site being hacked. I didn’t know that, and once again was so busy I forgot it was time for the hop again. I think your meatless Mondays is a good place to start. I waffle between really loving meat, and really wanting to just give it up. We’ve tried to buy from local farms, but it’s SO expensive and not easy to find either.
I hate what I read about big AG and Monsanto and I hate what they do. I’m always bugging my hubby to raise our own chickens, but that would really only be for eggs, because I’m sure I’d never be able to…I can’t even say it. 🙂
Jan K says
Thank you, Jackie!! It’s on my bucket list now too. 🙂
Julie says
I really love these posts. I feel it connects us all even more 🙂
