You make me smile (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that bring a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.
Sampson, the way you lay in the doorway of the bathroom, waiting for me to get ready for a walk…
You make me smile.
First he watches me. If it looks like I might be taking a potty break before getting dressed, he lays right down.
If you think he’s passed out, you’re wrong. The minute I reach for my walking pants, he jumps right up ready to go.
If for some reason he hasn’t followed me into the bathroom, all I have to do is walk over to him in my walking pants, he knows that pants.
Do you have any habits or clothes that tip your dog off that you’re getting ready for a walk?
Meagan & Merlin says
Merlin knows the word “walk” so u can’t say it out loud or he cries and won’t leave u alone. If he hears the keys jingle or i put on my shoes thats another tip off.

In my house, you can’t go to the toilet without a swarm of dogs around your feet. And I only have two! 😉

I love how Sampson uses every minute to save his strength for walking. I watch Mom like a hawk, every minute of the day. Nothing rings a bell, so everything that happens is a total surprise to me.
Love and licks,

I know a zipper means Mom is ready for a walk. No zipper usually means a run in which case I go back to bed and let Bailie handle that. If Mom talks about walking so I know we are going and I’m really excited I might race into the bathroom and steal a piece of clothing and run off with it just for a few seconds of fun. I’m not as mellow about waiting as Sampson.

Of course, dogs love a routine and they figure out the pattern pretty quickly. In the morning I have my coffee (before anything else, of course!), tidy the kitchen, read emails, etc., give the boys their joint / periodontal and then feed them. As soon as they are done eating (you know, in like one second, two at the most), I say “OK, I’m going to get my clothes on”…..the second I say it, Jimmy hauls upstairs ahead of me, watches me get dressed, and then hauls back downstairs to the back door. He knows those words mean the morning walk is about to begin!
Poor Wilson, who is now 90% deaf, watches Jimmy to get his cues.

Had to laugh at the photos of Sampson. When I go to the bathroom (for any reason) its a party! At least my dogs think so and there’s no way they’re gonna just lay down in the doorway. They swarm me 🙂 They also know when the clothes I’m wearing mean I’m “going to town” and leaving them, plus they know the shoes – which ones mean outside. Yep, the shoes tell the story.

It’s funny how you can think they are sound asleep, but as soon as you move they are up and running! Mine start to get excited when I’m putting my sneakers on, but it’s not until I grab their harness that they are sure they’re going for a walk!

Every time I put my tennis shoes on, Lila thinks we’re going for a walk. Most of the times, she’s right! I love those pictures of Sampson!

OMD!!! I love those pix of Sampson!! He reminds me of Callie waiting for me to come out of the bathroom after a shower! Her sweet Golden head would pop up in anticipation of the love pats I’d give as I past her on the way to the bedroom. Oh, how I miss my sweet girl!!

I have one of those pups…merely touching the back door and in a nano-second, Sam is sitting in front of the door, even if it’s just to take out the trash. That boy has super hero hearing and will come a-runnin! 🙂

I usually am dragging Cocoa out of bed, haha. She does seem to know when we are going to the puppy park though!!

I have walking shoes, but not walking pants. Have I missed something? What are walking pants? Does everyone have some but me?
Sophie says
The very last thing I do is put on my walking shoes and then his harness and leash. The second he sees me touch my walking shoes, he goes ballistic. Once his leash is on, he walks himself to the front door with the leash in his mouth, hopping on one foot and the the other until I open the door and we are off to smell the world!
Other than chocolate, I can hardly think of anything that I get as excited as Gus does to go on a walk. Simple joys.

Sampson’s so cute! I blogged about this with Rita – she sniffs our pants. She knows the sound of a leg working it’s way through the fabric of shorts/pants and as soon as she hears that sound, she comes running and sniffs what I’m putting on. She knows the smell of my “nice” jeans means I’m going out and no walk. Ears go down, head goes down and she goes back to bed. But my walking shorts or yoga pants – she knows they smell like walkie time and her tail starts to wag!

LOL that reminds me of Storm.
