Comes the Darkness
I love fall, I really do.
Beautiful warm days. The riot of color as trees shed their leaves, preparing themselves for their winter sleep.
Cool nights, perfect for sleeping or cuddling up on the couch with a dog, a hot toddy and a book.
And the food. Making jams and relishes, warm, savory stews, pumpkin muffins, it’s one of my favorite cooking seasons.
But with the fall, comes the darkness.
Suddenly our morning walks are starting out in the dark again. I’ve gone from wearing pants, a short-sleeved shirt and sandals to long-sleeved shirts, sneakers and reflective vests.
Honestly, I’m not so worried about me being seen. It’s more like making sure the dogs are seen by cars and other people and me seeing what the dogs are up to. After all, I do have one that likes to snarf things on the side of the road.
It’s so hard getting up in the dark and trying to get motivated enough to walk the dogs. Then the added gear of vests and flashlights and suddenly fall is sounding like a bad idea.
Anyone have a time turner I can borrow?
Butt Bombing
Neither of my dogs are great about posing for pictures. (Obvs, you do read this blog and see the craptastic photos I post.) There are times when they both cooperate enough to snap a decent photo, but odds are if I’m trying to get a picture of Sampson, some jealous biatch will find her way in to ruin it.
Case in point.
On our afternoon walk (which thankfully takes place in the afternoon (DUH) where it’s NEVER dark) I tried to snap a photo of a happy Sampson on the trail.
Here’s what I got.
How the hell does she do it?

Butt Bombing. I like it – and that’s the perfect name for it too!
Luckily, with only one dog, I don’t have that problem, but I do have the “I’ve collected something gross in my long fur right before the photo” problem.

I must say, that butt-bomb is perfection. That girl’s got skills!

That butt bomb pic is one in a million! Looks like you put two dogs together into one! You couldn’t get that if you tried! We enjoy the dark walks, but going out in the dark when it is raining is what stinks but it is what it is.

Who wouldn’t want to show off a butt is as trim and toned as that!?

Butt bombing….too funny!!!
I can’t get motivated in the morning when it’s cold and dark, so I admire the fact that you get out every morning in spite of that!

I feel you on the dark mornings. Cocoa and I run every morning and it has gone from walking out in my shorts and tshirt to layering. I actually thought I could have worn gloves the other morning!! Fall is beautiful though.

It may be butt-bombing, but you gotta admit, it is a pretty cute butt. Having two dogs will absolutely guarantee you’ll never get two perfect faces looking back at you digitally. Trust me, having been there, I learned it’s a hard fast rule of nature. 😉

I love autumn too. But yes, it does become darker for our dog walks.

I’m with Emma – that butt bombing pic is a one-in-a- million that you couldn’t repeat if you tried. And it’s perfect! It has made all of us smile, or LOL as Jan said, and what more could you ask for?! Now, that said, Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year, even more than Spring. The temps have started cooling down enough to wear a long-sleeved shirt in the morning and at bedtime, but still warm enough during the day to wear flip-flops. Remember that I live in the south. And we don’t get as much heavy rain as during the Spring and summer months. And maybe, by Halloween, the bugs will start hibernating underground. Just wish I could find their nests and blow them to he**!!

I am glad for the shorter days. It means it gets light out later in the morning so Blueberry is more than happy to sleep in with me! Although we do take up the night hiking which I don’t really mind. I usually end up scaring myself more than there actually being anything to be scared of. Sometimes my own breathing startles me.
That is an excellent phone – looks like you have a two-toned lab!

I love fall too as I love to see the changing of the tree leaves. Love the butt bombing

Luckily for us, Rita LOVES to sleep in, so no o’dark thirty walks for us. And luckily my work-at-home, flexible schedule means we can wait and walk later when the streets are quieter. Although here it’s not feeling fall-like yet. We have to get out on our walks before it gets too hot! I love the fall and can’t wait for it to finally arrive here. I think we have at least another month of summer!
Love the butt photo bombing!
