This is a sponsored post. I have been compensated with product in exchange for my honest opinion. That being said, I would never share something with you that I don’t fully endorse and use myself.
Probably one of the biggest dislikes I have to living with dogs is watching them age.
Sampson bless his sweet little heart will be 11 tomorrow.
I couldn’t honestly tell you where the time went, it seems like just yesterday when I first held the little nugget and promptly fell in love.
The D-Dog, if you can imagine will be 10 in December. Sadly I have no puppy pictures of her, but I can tell you she was definitely a 67 pound puppy when she came to us.
I’ve often written about how different my dogs are in personality, but they are also total opposites in body style. Sampson is broad in the chest and tiny in the waist and hips. This dog is not meant for jumping or even running really. When we come back from our walks, he lies on the floor panting, and it takes him at least a half an hour to recover.
Delilah on the other hand was built for speed, she is all athlete that one. She might be panting on our walk, but once she’s home, her breathing returns to normal within a couple of minutes. And jump? Damn but that girl can jump. I once saw her go from a sitting position on the floor to a sitting position in a bay window exactly the same way a cat would. She really is amazing.
Dogs (just like humans) often need a little somethin’ somethin’ to help them as they age. Sampson tore his ACL last year and since that time has struggled with strained illiosoas muscles and arthritis. Last fall we started Sampson on Rejenease by Finest for Dogs. If you missed that post, you can read about it HERE. (There is also a discount code for 25% off your first bottle and you can find that in the post also. OH and there is also a weekly giveaway for a free bottle, you can find that HERE.) The Rejenease was what helped Sampson over the hump with the ACL recovery. Honestly, I don’t know where we’d be at if not for the Rejenease.
A short time ago Steven from Finest for Dogs asked if we’d be willing to try out his new product, Omegease. At first I was confused (I’m not the brightest bulb in the box), so I asked Steven. Do I use this INSTEAD of Rejenease or IN CONJUNCTION with it? Steven (who is always quick to respond) said, “In conjunction with it.”
Let me just go on record as saying the Omegease fits just about all of my requirements in terms of product I can stand behind.
The anchovies, sardines, herring and mackerel are wild caught (using dolphin friendly methods) in the North Atlantic off the coast of Iceland. Wild caught wins over farm raised any day of the week for me. In fact, I will not purchase farm-raised fish for myself. The very thought of it makes me sick to my stomach. The fact they are taking care not to harm dolphins in the process? That’s priceless in my book.
Plus Omegease is GMP certified and manufactured right here in the good ole’ US of A.
The package touts the benefits as follows:
As you can see a lot of the benefits of Omegease are helping behind the scenes, in ways not necessarily visible to our eyes. (Sort of like raising kids. You’re not really sure they got much of what you taught them until you see the final results.) 😉
A little over a month ago, we started Sampson and Delilah on the Omegease. The bottle says typical results are three to four weeks. Well here we are five weeks later…so what have I seen?
Well there is definitely less shedding. Before starting the Omegease Delilah’s hind end looked like she was blowing her coat, and no matter how many times I combed it, I couldn’t get it to stop. During one of our visits to the vet, one of the techs took a large comb and finally got them out. They haven’t been back since.
Because I use a natural flea and tick spray, when we come home from a wood walk I comb the dogs out. I had been getting a lot of dander in the fur that came out on the comb, but since adding the Omegease to their diet, I see less and less dander.
Sampson and Delilah get two walks per day, each walk is usually 25 to 30 minutes long. Our first walk is at 6:00 am and our second walk is usually around 2:00 pm. Last week we had a little issue in our yard (Hubby discovered a bee’s nest) and while Hubby worked to remove this from our yard and make it safe for all of us, we had to go out with the dogs to make sure they avoided the area. I decided to take the dogs out front, so I put Delilah on leash and out we went.
Sampson was off-leash, while Delilah and I headed down to the little patch in front. After Delilah did her business we turned around and headed back. Delilah started walking in the street and when we reached the end of the driveway, Sampson trotted out with a jaunty little step all set and ready to go for a third walk! I had to laugh, it was so damn cute. I also notice he doesn’t seem to be as slow to get up as he has been in the past.
All in all I’m saying the Omegease is working pretty well.
Besides the great bennies to my dogs, what I also liked was the Omegease comes in a handy pump bottle, with simple directions. The dosage is measured by your dog’s weight, Sampson gets two and a half pumps, while Delilah gets two.
The bottle does NOT have to be refrigerated, it sits right on my counter top next to their other supplements. Sometimes when I add a new supplement it’s tough to work it into my daily routine, having the bottle right on the counter makes it that much easier to remember.
What I didn’t like is the pump. If you don’t get that last drop out, it can drip on your counter and leave a bit of a mess. I have to remember to give the bottle a little shake before setting it back down. (Remember, if you shake it more than four times, that’s playing with it, as my mother-in-law used to say.) 😉
Are you ready to try some Omegease? Steve has generously agreed to give 5 (yes that’s right, five!) lucky readers a free bottle to try! All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me which dog you want try this supplement with. This is a deal breaker folks, comments that do not list the dog’s name will not be considered in the drawing.
For an extra entry into the contest, share this post on Facebook (you’ll find buttons at the bottom of this post) and tag either me personally, or Heart Like a Dog and I’ll be sure to give you an extra entry.
Omegease is available on Amazon and Amazon only ships to the US so sorry my friends, this contest is only open in the US.
BUT WAIT, there’s more. If you don’t want to wait to see if you’re a winner, Steve is giving Heart Like a Dog readers a 30% discount, which is available for one bottle. This discount will be available until January 31, 2016.
Here’s how it works. Once you’ve added Omegease to your cart select the “FREE shipping” option. If you are an Amazon Prime member you automatically get free shipping.
On the final “Place Your Order” page, there is a “Gift cards & promotional codes” box. This is where you enter the code, “JODISAVE”, click apply and it will automatically take 30% off your first bottle of Omease.
Isn’t that awesome? I can’t wait until some of you start using it, and hear how well it works for you.
UPDATE: Steven has informed me that there has been a problem with damage to his 16 oz bottles of Omegease, so Amazon has suspended sales but ONLY on the 16 oz bottle. The 32 ox bottles are still available!
AND FYI: STEVEN IS READING AND RESPONDING TO QUESTIONS, SO IF YOU HAVE ANY, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE THEM IN THE COMMENTS.

Wow that stuff sounds fabulous! Sam will be 10 in October and despite his pogo sticking ways, will no doubt need something like this. It sounded so amazing, I’m half tempted to try it myself! 😉 Seriously though, I’d love for Sam to be on a product made in the US that actually helps them ease into the twilight years.

I’m curious. How does it help with IBD?
Baby Sam was adorable, and only a person with a heart of stone could avoid falling in love with him!
Glad this stuff is helping!!
Steven says
Hi Callie, Shadow, Ducky and Mom,
Omega oil is one of the most researched supplements, with over 27,000 published studies. The research has shown that omega 3 has an anti-inflammatory effect throughout the body. So whilst not being a specific treatment for IBD, its anti-inflammatory properties can help.
Hope that answers your question,
Steven

Yes, it does help. Thanks, Steve! By the way, Callie is still benefitting from the Rejenease.

That’s great to hear.

It’s good to hear it’s helping the dogs so much.

Hi Y’all!
Oh great review! I’ll have to try some.
By the way, the Humans have read a couple of articles recently suggesting that “farm raised” fish has little or no benefit and can actually be unhealthy because of the conditions in which they are raised.
My Humans will tell you that farm raised lacks the taste of fresh wild caught. They’ll also tell you, since much of the time they get their fish at the docks straight off the boats, that frozen, thawed fish in inland super markets doesn’t taste right either!
So much for fish!
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Steven says
Having done a huge amount of research into fish oil supplements I totally agree with your humans.

So glad to read this review, Jodi. You know I’ve been using Rejenease for Jeffie (and really like it) and I’ve wondered about using this to replace his current fish oil supplement. I like the sound of the pump bottle – so much easier than a measuring spoon or capsule. I shouldn’t even enter since I won the weekly Rejenease giveaway, but what the heck. I’d like to try this with Jeffie, but maybe Rudy and Rosie, too.
Steven says
Hi Sue,
What’s the point of having a giveaway if you don’t enter 🙂 so I’m pleased you’re in with a chance to win.

Hi Jodie,
What a wonderful writer you are. I love the stories you’ve weaved around your review. I’ll never forget your mother-in-laws advice. My next delivery will be using a more robust bottle and pump, so hopefully that will help with drips.
Would you believe I’ve had an email from Amazon this morning saying they’ve damaged some of my stock which caused the oil to leak over the undamaged bottles. It’s going to take them 2-5 days to “investigate”! In the meantime they’ve suspended the listing for the 16oz size. Thanks Amazon. This only effects the 16oz bottle, the 32oz is still available. I’ve also got a fresh batch of Omegease in production now, so new bottles will be available soon. I just wanted to let everyone know in case the try to use your discount code to buy the 16oz size.
Sorry everyone,
Steven

Ok I am definitely trying this! You had me at less shedding……it looks like it’s snowing dog hair in my house. Lightning the Lab Mix sheds like a Husky in the south. Can’t wait to see if it helps him! Plus he will be 9 this fall, and I’ll do anything to keep him going strong. BTW Happy Bday to Sampson too!

Wow, what a great review, Jody. I don’t know what your day job is but you have a great talent for advertising copy writing. This sounds like something I should try on Chamois, my generic many breeds in one dog.
Steven says
I totally agree with you Jan. There’s a book in Jodi that would be a fantastic read if she can find the time to write it.
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
Great review, Steve told me he was coming out with this so glad that it’s finally here. I’m still using the rejenease and it’s helping my soon to be 11 year old. I can’t believe Sampson is going to be 11 he looks great!
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
Gads and yes yes I would like to try this on my 11 year old NELLIE. my mind is moosh today.
Emma says
Rejenease has been a miracle product for Katie, so thankful to have gotten a free bottle to test out! Not sure if this one would be necessary or not.
Steven says
I’d enter the competition and if you win a bottle give it to Katie and see how she responds. It’s perfectly safe and there’s so much research into the benefits, it’s worth trying. Most people love the way it improves skin and coat condition.
Tenacious Little Terrier says
We used to give Mr. N fish oil but stopped after he had a case of acute pancreatitis. Not sure if this would be too high in fat to give him or not? I’d be interested in trying it with him if it wouldn’t aggravate his pancreas!
Steven says
With Mr. N’s history of acute pancreatitis I suggest you consult your veterinarian before giving it to him.

We use Alaska Naturals Wild Salmon Oil for Shadow, our 12 year old, Roxy, our 14 year old and Kingsley, our 10 year old. Both Roxy and Kingsley have congestive heart failure and Shadow pup has major skin allergies. Steven, can you tell me if this will add more of what my pups need to help them live well? Oh, arthritis is a factor too. Roxy is my main concern. Thanks Jodi. You always share great information!
Steven says
A one spoonful dose of Alaska Naturals contains 455mg of EPA which is the omega 3 fatty acid in fish oil that acts as an anti-inflammatory, which can help with any condition that causes inflammation of the heart, kidneys, skin, and joints. Omegease contains 800mg of EPA in a 5ml spoonful.
DHA, the other omega 3 fatty acid in fish oil, is important in brain and eye development in puppies and kittens and is recommended for pregnant or nursing pets. Alaska Naturals contains 500mg of DHA, whilst Omegease has 525mg per spoonful.
Alaska Naturals recommend a dose of 1/2 spoonful per 10lbs of body weight, whereas for Omegease it’s 1/2 spoonful per 25lbs. Both these recommended dosages are within the recommended dosage range. The higher concentration of EPA in Omegease accounts for the difference.
Alaska Naturals is a good supplement. It uses wild caught Alaskan salmon which would be important to me. With 3 pups a bottle of Omegease will last longer.
It comes down to your choice, because both give your pups what they need. Why don’t you enter the giveaway and if you win a bottle, see how your pups respond. Or you could use the 30% discount.
Excuse the long answer!
Steven.
Becky says
Thanks for the long answer! Wild caught is so important!
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Okay, Jodi, you and Steve convinced me. I want to try the Omegease for Callie. Her arthritis is a bit more bothersome on the most humid days; and she sheds like crazy.

We are currently avoiding any products, containing any type of fish or fish oil, but this does sound like a good product!

Rich Murphy says
I JUST left the vet, Missy had her stitches taken out (7 lumps removed). Missy has always had a skin problem, itchy dry skin, the vet said fish oil might help, so as soon as I got home I hit the web and started researching fish oils and here I am. I would like to try this to see if it helps her. My one concern is we feed a kibble that has Omega-6 2.4% and Omega-3 0,3%. Will this still be okay and if so should I give less then the recommend amount? Thanks
Steven says
Hi Rich,
It’s perfectly OK to give Omegease in addition to your dog’s kibble. The dog food companies add omegas to their kibble, but usually at quite a low concentration.
The National Research Council has established a safe upper limit of EPA and DHA for dogs. The safe dose for dogs is between 20-55mg combined EPA and DHA per pound of body weight. The recommended Omegease dosage gives 27mg per lb, which means you can give it in addition to the kibble you use and still be well within the safe level.
Rich Murphy says
Thanks I have ordered some
Steven says
Thanks Rich, please let me know how Missy responds.
Sandy Weinstein says
i have 3 4 legged girls, evie, tressa and harley. i would use it on all 3 gals, but the oldest Evie would be the main dog, since she is almost 14 yrs old. i currently give my girls omega 3 fish and feed them sardines as well on top of their kibble. they love the sardines. evie has some arthritis issues and some skin issues which appear on min. schnauzer as they get older, they get the little bumps, non cancerous, but i always have them checked anyway.
Steven says
Hi Sandy,
Giving your dogs sardines is a great way to give them the benefits of the omegas.
