You make me smile (or laugh,) the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.
Delilah, the way you bring me your Kong and expect me to hold it while you eat it…
You make me smile.
Sampson likes his Kong loosely packed. Depending on his mood, he either finishes it, or licks the pumpkin out and then enlists either Hubby or myself to help him
Delilah likes her Kong packed. I pack the pineapple in as tightly as I can. The first thing she does is bite the pumpkin off, then she works diligently at the Kong until she’s gotten the last bit of pineapple out. On the rare occasion when she can’t get it all, she does not bounce the Kong like Sampson does, oh no. No, she will bring the wet, slimy Kong and plop it in your lap.
Often times Hubby will look inside the Kong and say, “There’s nothing in there.”
BUT I always tell him, “If Delilah brings you the Kong, there is always something in there.” 🙂
Do your dogs ever bring you the Kong because they need help?
(Sorry for the crappy photo, it was on my phone and I was taking the photo one handed.)

I love when you develop a tradition with each of your dogs. It’s definitely something special I remember about them. I’ve never used pumpkin or pineapple in a Kong, I might have to try it. I usually freeze some type of meat with water and seal the Kong with a bit of peanut butter. It’s great in summer.
If Cody is finding a toy too challenging, he’ll just look at me until I help him 🙂 But he’s always likes to work out Kong’s for himself.

I love the visual of Delilah dropping the wet and slimy kong in your lap and saying, “Mooommmm, I need help.” Gussie uses his kong ball to alert me if he wants to go outside, wants his filled kong, etc. etc. Always wet and slimy. It is his lovey! I’ve learned to keep a washcloth handy!

I’ve never seen this colour Kong before, but our dogs love them.

Katie and I aren’t real into Kongs, but Bailie loves hers. She gets one after her morning run when Mom takes Katie and I out for a walk, so she has to handle it all alone. She gets most of it out, but by the time we are back home, she has no further interest in it, so no…no need for help here.

We don’t do Kongs but my guys (and especially Jimmy) ask for help with stuff all the time. Just yesterday, Jimmy woofed at me with an expectant look on his face. I asked “What’s wrong?” and he turned and pointed at a spot on his back leg with his nose. I could see the fur was messy and wet. OK, let me check….sure enough, he had a tick (yuck!) embedded!
I read an interesting article on the differences between wolves and domestic dogs. It was talking about intelligence and the fact that wolves were much better problem solvers than dogs. But that dogs were much better at communicating their needs to us and then having us solve their problems for them. Even wolves raised in captivity with close human contact did not look to humans for help. So as a result of using us to solve their problems, they had genetically dumbed themselves down a bit in the problem solving arena.
Getting someone else to do the dirty work doesn’t seem all that dumb to me 😉

To be clearer….I should have said…..So as a result of using us to solve their problems, dogshave genetically dumbed themselves down a bit in the problem solving arena.

I think my hubby uses this same tactic.

Aww that’s so cute that she wants your help. Laika just gets pissy and makes a lot of grumbling noises when she can’t get everything out of her Kong. Often times I’ll get up to help her out so I don’t have to listen to it lol.

We haven’t done kongs since Luke was a puppy. He is demanding pineapple now though…he hasn’t tried that yet!
I do know what it’s like to have a slimy object plopped in your lap though…Cricket does that with her ball when we’re sitting outside!

It’s not such a “crappy” photo! You should see some of mine that never make it to my blog, or FB! I love the look on Delilah’s face! She has you well trained in the art of holding her Kong! BTW, is that a PURPLE Kong? Purple is Callie’s color, too! Actually, it’s MY favorite color, but since she’s my first Golden baby, she got it. (Shadow’s is pink, Ducky’s is red.)

I’m sitting here, smiling at all the comments before my own. Taryn’s response reminds me of what I used to say to my Dad whenever he called Kissy “Dummy”. I’d just look at him and say “She got you to do what she wanted, didn’t she? I’d say that’s pretty darn smart.” 🙂

sweet girl, she wants every lick! I don’t stuff kongs much I best start again.

Oh Jodi, your dogs always make me smile too. I don’t get a present, just that ‘look.’ Hard stare at the empty treat delivery system switching over to a hard look straight at me, repeated over and over again. I almost prefer the slimy lap drop than that ‘look!’

Our angel pups use to like us to hold the rawhide. They would get really annoyed if you didn’t hold it right. The habits they develop crack me up!

My dogs have learned what “Take it in the kitchen” means when they bring us empty Kongs.

That is too cute – I love that she comes to her mama for help. 🙂

Rita doesn’t bring me her Kong for help (but we only fill it w/ Kong easy-cheese, so it’s easy to get out on her own). But she does look to me for help with other things – like the ball just barely under the sofa (so annoying – I swear she kicks it under there on purpose) and help with food puzzles.
By the way, today’s PoochSmooches post answers the pineapple question. 🙂
