By now most of you know I’m a big Harry Potter fan. I’ve read the books more times than I can count.
One of my favorite characters is Dobby the House Elf. For those who are unfamiliar with the Harry Potter books (really? I can’t believe it’s even possible. Go read the first book, I’ll wait.)
Just kidding.
For those unfamiliar with House Elves, these creatures live to do work for the families they serve. Typically a house elf dresses themselves in a tea towel, or a rag. To most house elves the worst thing that could possible happen to them is to be dismissed by their masters and the way their master does so is to bestow them with clothes.
In a House Elf’s mind, being presented with clothes is a horrible disgrace.
Except for Dobby. Dobby wanted to be a free elf and his favorite piece of clothing was socks.
While dogs don’t have the reasoning capabilities House Elves do, I feel there might be some similarities between dogs and House Elves.
Specifically stated, Socks are to dogs like clothes are to House Elves.
Sampson’s been licking at his paws again, it’s getting to the point where the fur is coming off and so the other day I told him, this means socks.
Do you know putting socks on a dog is a lot like trying to put socks on a kicking toddler?
Well it is.
The only good thing? I didn’t have to worry about whether they matched his outfit or not.

I love Harry Potter, too!!
Poor Sampson! I hope his feet feel better soon!
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Tell me, Sampson, what DOES your Mama wear? 😉 It can’t be any worse than what I wear at times.
Is Sampson suffering from seasonal allergies maybe? I know poor Callie was on the verge of an ear infection a few weeks ago when the pollen was so bad around here. Had to take her to the vet for an ear cleaning and drops to go along with some Benadryl tablets. And she still sneezes from time to time.

EVERYONE loves Harry Potter! Remember Hermione knitting hats for the house elves at Hogwarts?! They hated them!! LOL!

Moms have solutions for every problem that comes up. Sadly, an item of clothing is usually part of the solution…. Hang in there, buddy.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Emma says
Oh man, you poor boy having to wear the socks again. Stop licking your paws dude!
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
awe sampson you are so cute in your socks. And yes yes I have not ready any harry potter books or seen the movies.
Mary says
LOL He looks pretty forlorn about the whole thing.
Monika says
Those cute stripeys make him look like he’s in prison garb which, from a dog’s perspective, he probably feels like he is. On the bright side, at least it’s not the cone of shame. Get better soon, Sampson.
Blueberry's human says
Awwww, poor Sampson. I suppose it is true – out of sight = out of mind. I have a similar battle with Blueberry when I put that Musher’s Secret on her paws. She always wants to lick it off right away. So, I “hide” her paws with a blanket for at least 3 minutes and then let her have at em. Don’t ever let anyone tell you 3 minutes isn’t long. To a dog it is an eternity and to the human monitoring the dog – it’s an eternity and a half.

Callum, my eldest son is OBSESSED with Harry Potter and has just finished the last book. Now he doesn’t know what to do with himself because every other book is so BORING in comparison. What should he read next Jodi?
Get well soon Sampson.
Jackie Bouchard says
Oh, poor Sampson! But he looks so darn cute in his socks!(if completely annoyed…). I love Dobby too!

i almost gave up reading HP when she killed off Dobby. I was irritated when she killed off humans I liked but Dobby was like part of our family. Anyway, Sampson looks adorable.
Frankie and Ernie says

Jan K says
He just looks so cute in his socks! Kobi was really good about having his put on, he seemed to get used to them. We’d let him wear them outside when the yard was dry, and he’d always manage to lose at least one out there….I wonder if he did that on purpose? 🙂
one person's view says
How is supposed to do the dishes with socks on his hands?
Maggie says
I will tell you over a beer why I haven’t read Harry Potter, but I don’t want you to un-friend me. I have seen the movies. Does that count? Though I’m sure he’s unhappy in those socks, he sure does look pretty cute!! Hope his feet heal soon!
Lori says
You be telling us both, Maggie.
DZ Dogs says
Cute socks!! I hope his feet get better soon. And yes we love Harry Potter, I read all the books! But recently we’ve become huge Dr. Who fans!
Mary Ann says
The dogs that live or come over to our house like to steal socks. They think socks are toys! I don’t think Lila would like to wear socks. I tried putting boots on her a few times, but that didn’t work very well even though it was keeping her feet warm from the snow.
I hope Sampson feels better soon and doesn’t have to wear those darn socks.
Dobby is one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter series. He won everyone’s heart!
2 Brown Dawgs says
Poor Sampson. I am not a fan of socks myself, but I don’t lick my paws either…lol.
Jen Gabbard says
It’s so hard to not laugh at him in socks – I tried, I really did. And yeah I couldn’t imagine it’s very easy to get those on; I know Laika would be a fussy mess if I tried.
