I try and keep this blog light and funny, but sometimes there are times when I turn to the serious. I’ll get the serious over first and then hopefully share something that will at least make you smile.
The face in the fire.
A woman I went to school with owns a farm not too far from me. She raises Lincoln sheep. Monday morning the family was awoken at 4:30 am by an explosion. Their barn was on fire. Thankfully the sheep were in the lower level of the barn and the dad was able to open the gate.
The problem was it’s lambing time and the sheep wouldn’t leave the barn without their babies. A quick thinking Firefighter noticed the neighbor’s roof was clear of snow and borrowed the rake to pull the babies from the barn.
The barn was destroyed, but all the sheep and their babies escaped. They did however lose two chickens who were dearly loved.
There were lots of pictures posted on her Facebook page, but by far this one was the most fascinating to me.
Kathy says it was her mom looking out for her babies.
I hate daylight savings.
At our house, we walk twice a day.
First thing in the morning, (typically around 6:00 am) and then sometime in the afternoon, depending on what I’ve got going on at work and when I take my lunch.
For the last three to four months, we’ve slowly gone from walking in pitch dark to walking in early morning light.
And then just like that, the time changes and we are back to walking in the dark again.
I hate daylight savings.
It’s just a big pile of shit.
We’ve had a break in the weather! For the last few days it has been in the mid to upper 40’s, which means some of the snow is melting! Of course the rivers of water, and the various floatables caught up in it, is very tempting for a certain Chocolate Lab.
One of the best things to come from this (besides the warmth and melting snow) is during our afternoon walks I can remove the ice cleats from my boots! It’s still been getting cold at night, so I won’t take the chance in the mornings (black ice = broken bones) but in the afternoons, I am definitely removing those cleats. It’s so nice to walk and not sound like I’m tapping my way around the neighborhood.
Speaking of neighborhoods. Remember the neighbor that keeps their dogs on their deck and shovels their poop off?
He shoveled on Tuesday.
It’s so disgusting. WTF is wrong with people?

Oh no! That’s too bad about the barn! 🙁
Wtf is wrong with your neighbor?? Yikes!! :/
We also hate the time change.. With a passion.

So sad and scary about the fire. Yikes. There are no words for the poop collector. No words at all….

What a pile of shit that is! Pardon my French, but I am a French Scent Hound. Thanks for the fire photo, Mom read this with me at 5am and got goose bumps. Freaky! Thank goodness all the sheep and babies were saved!

What a horrible fire – I’m glad the mom and babies were able to get out. Fires are scary stuff. I have mixed feeling about daylight savings. I love that it’s light for awhile after I get home but I agree with you – being up at 6am and walking around at the moment is crazy. I can’t see a thing. And what a horrible pile of poop.. I wish I knew what was wrong with some people.
Daisy says
How horrible about that fire, but I’m so glad at least the sheep are all okay…though I feel awful for her about her chickens. I did see the profile of the face in the fire – freaky! And OMG about your neighbor’s poop pile, that’s disgusting! Will he at least get rid of it before the heat settles in?!
Molly The Wally says
Sorry to read about the fire. Yes daylight savings sucks and we have not even had our clocks changed over here yet. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly

OMG – that neighbor is a hazard. I remember this time of year when the snow gets all ugly…hated it. Hope it’s all gone soon.

So sorry about your friend’s barn fire, and especially the chickens! That is so sad!! I’ll have to look for the face later – I can’t see diddly squat on this phone screen. But I would agree with your friend that it was her Mom looking out for her babies.
As for shit piles, I’d say the neighbor himself is the biggest pile of it. Can’t the police do anything about it? And I hate DST as much as anyone. It’s a WASTE of time and energy if you ask me, especially at this time of the year.
Mary Hone says
Holy shit, literally. What an idiot that guy is. And how scary about the fire! I’m so glad all the sheep made it out OK.
Elaine says
Very sad about the barn fire, but I’m glad most of the animals were able to be saved. Barn fires are really scary.
The “poop deck” is quite disgusting, yuk!
Jan K says
OMG, that is so gross! How can they not realize that?
That fire is so sad….I’m glad they at least got the sheep and babies out. Cool photo and thought that her Mom was looking out for her babies.
I hate the dark mornings too, it really makes me not want to get out of bed. We had some nice days but today is darn cold and windy. It looks like it’s going to stay cold for a few days too….double reason to stay in bed!
Blueberry's human says
Glad the sheep and lambs made it out safely, but very sad about the chickens.
How is it better that he swept the poop onto a hill of snow? Who does that? How badly do you want to fashion a sign on a wooden stick that says “ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS???” and stick it on top of that poop hill, facing the house?
We don’t have Daylight Savings Time here – but from all the grumblings I hear about it every year, I’m guessing it is quite unpleasant. I don’t fully understand why it happens anyway. All I know is that once DST hits, it means in a month or so, all these winter visitors will be gone and driving will once again, be safer.

WE DID see the face!!! that is amazing… we have always heard that out of every BAD thing … Good things come… and it IS good that so MANY were SAVED..
BLESSINGS on the FIRE FIGHTERS.
CindyLu's Muse says
Wow, that face couldn’t be any clearer. There’s no doubt someone was watching over those babies. So very glad everyone (except the poor chickens) is okay. Ice cleats? I think I need to get me some of those next winter, the black ice is gonna be the death of me yet!
Monika says
Oh. dear. lord. That shoveled pile is beyond disgusting. And when that starts to melts with warmer temps, oh golly, the smell..I can’t bear to imagine. WTH is wrong with people?????
So glad the sheepies all survived, but sorry for the loss of the chickens. Loved the ‘face silhouette’ from the FB photo. Quite remarkable.
MyDogLikes says
I am heartbroken for the family, but very thankful that more lives were not lost.
As for the neighbor and daylight savings…We are with you. Its shit.
Rachele Baker, DVM says
I’m so glad the sheep and lambs made it out of the fire safely. That is horrible that they lost their chickens.
When summer heat comes and that poop pile starts to really stink, you can take a little bit of pleasure when the wind blows the stench straight into their house….
Hawk aka BrownDog says
Hi Y’all,
So very glad the moms and babies were saved. Horses often die in barn fires because if not put in a secure place they will run back to the safety of their stall, not realizing the stall is no longer a safe haven. Some refuse to leave their stall. A knowledgeable horseman knows to blindfold a horse to lead it from the fire and to secure it in a paddock, not turn it loose where it could return to its stall.
Come on by tomorrow to see the dance.
Y’all come on back,
Hawk aka BrownDog

OMG all that poop has got to stink. What a shame about the barn. I am glad the sheep are safe at least. I like DST. I love the longer days. One of the weather guys around here went on and on about how it is not “daylight savings time” but “daylight saving time”. On and on and on. Not kidding.
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
OMG that poop picture, I love poop pictures but really that neighbor is a Ahole! Do you think complaining to your town people would do any good. I know when I lived in town I knew people that had to remove boats and other stuff from their lawns as they were “eye sores” well I think a mass of pile of poop is a eye sore. I am so sorry for your friend who had the fire. I’m so glad the sheep got out safely sorry about the chickens :(. That is a really cool photo, again sorry it happened.
