As you know Sampson had ACL surgery last March and really struggled recovering from it. He ended up with an Iliosas strain and had some arthritis too. We did acupuncture which offered him some relief, but it needed to be repeated every three to four weeks.
I was contacted by Steve Hourston to review a new product called Rejenease. Rejenease is a joint supplement that
- Promotes mobility
- Supports healthy joints
- Greatly reduces joint pain
The first thing I want to say is how easy Steve is to work with. He is very accessible via e-mail and I felt like he truly cared about Sampson and helping Sampson to feel better.
Of course, before giving it to Sampson I did check with my vet to be sure it was something she approved of. We got the go ahead on November 19, 2014. We started it that very night.
The dosage for a dog Sampson’s size is 2 teaspoons twice per day. Because of Sampson’s discomfort Steve suggest we ‘load’ Sampson up and double the dosage at first. We did this for the first bottle which lasted just about three weeks. Making a quick calculation I determined at regular dosage the bottle should last around six weeks for a dog on normal dosage.
I noticed an improvement in Sampson within the first couple of days. I admit, I was skeptical. I couldn’t believe something could work that fast, but it did. He was more alert, and you could tell just by looking at him that he felt better. Even my husband said so.
Nine days after starting the supplement, Sampson jumped into the car!
Then I watched him hop up onto the couch he had previously climbed on.
Then he jumped on the bed.
One area I really noticed a difference was in his pooping. (Come on, you knew poop had to be in here somewhere!) After his ACL surgery it was painful for Sampson to poop. He would squat, then shift, shift, shift trying to find a comfortable position for his legs. Within eleven days of beginning Rejenease I noticed Sampson wasn’t shifting as much and many times not at all.
One of the indicators that Sampson was having some discomfort was the licking of his wrists. Typically when I noticed this I would call and schedule an acupuncture appointment. Just before starting Rejenease I noticed it again, I delayed making the call and within a few days of starting Rejenease I noticed Sampson had stopped licking his wrist.
Saturday morning we took a 28 minute walk. As soon as we got inside this happened.
Sampson has a hitch in his giddy up again. My arms notice it on our walks as he has begun pulling again. He is happy, confident and so full of joy. It’s like he’s a puppy again. In fact, I’ve heard Hubby say, “Are you a puppy?” and “Where are you getting this energy from?” I will never be able to thank Steve for this.
What’s in it you say? Let’s look at the active ingredients
- Glucosamine HCI (Shellfish)
- Chondrotin Sulfate (Beef and/or porcine)
- MSM (Methyl-sulfonylmethante 99.9%)
- Manganese Chelate
- Hyaluronic Acid (as Sodium Hyaluronate)
Inactive Ingredients:
- 100% Pure Aloe Vera Juice
- Citric Acid
- Potassium Sorbate
- Purified Water
- Sodium Benzoate
- Stevia
- Vegetable Glycerin
With shellfish being the first ingredient, I would expect this to have a fishy smell, but it does not. I do notice that Sampson has slightly fishy breath for a short time after taking it, but only for a short time.
It is not oily either so if Delilah gets a wild hair across her ass and decides to grab the bottle from the counter, I won’t end up with oil all over my rug like I did with the Salmon Oil incident. The teaspoon washes up beautifully without an oily residue.
Speaking of Delilah, I’m actually thinking about starting her on a low dosage. She hasn’t been showing any signs of discomfort or arthritis, but why wait?
I can honestly say there was only one tiny thing I suggested to Steve, which was to put the fluid ounces on the label so a person can determine how long a bottle would last, in order to get the most bang for their buck. Steve has assured me future batches will have the ounces on the label.
Steve is currently working on his website, so until it’s finished Rejenease is available on Amazon, but don’t click that link yet!!
Steve has generously agreed to give 10 (yes that’s right ten!) lucky readers a free bottle to try! All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me which dog you want try this supplement with. This is a deal breaker folks, comments that do not list the dog’s name will not be considered in the drawing. The contest will be open until next Sunday (January 11th) at midnight.
Any comments received after that cutoff will not be considered. Because this item is available on Amazon, it’s open to every one.
BUT WAIT, there’s more. If you don’t want to wait to see if you’re a winner, Steve is giving Heart Like a Dog readers a 25% discount, which is available for one bottle. This discount will be available until December 31, 2015. A whole year! Remember, it’s only good on your first bottle.
Here’s how it works. Once you’ve added Rejenease to your cart select the “FREE shipping” option. If you are an Amazon Prime member you automatically get free shipping.
On the final “Place Your Order” page, there is a “Gift cards & promotional codes” box. This is where you enter the code, “HEARTDOG”, click apply and it will automatically tie you 25% off your first bottle of Rejenease.
Isn’t that awesome? I can’t wait until some of you start using it, and hear how well it works for you.
Some of the mumbo jumbo I have to add. Rules are subject to change. (That’s in case I find out that Amazon doesn’t ship to Iceland or something like that.) If a rule changes I will do my best to notify my readers. A comment that does not mention a dog’s name will not be eligible to win the free bottle of Rejenease. Please be sure to include your e-mail when posting your comment as these will be passed along to Steve so he can coordinate getting you your free bottle of Rejenease. Winners will be announced next Monday, January 12, 2015 (if I remember. See the first sentence of this paragraph.) 🙂
UPDATE: Amazon only ships in the US. 🙁 Boo, I’m sorry for my non-US friends.

I’d like to try Vlad on this. I’m still looking for an all-in-one product that he can take that doesn’t upset his stomach. He had a “possible OCD” when he was younger, so we keep him on the supplements like The Great Dane Lady says needs to be lifetime in these cases. Some days I get really sick of having to twist open capsules to mix it into his food since I’ve yet to find an all-in-one that doesn’t upset his stomach–burpy. But I hate getting burped into my face even more, so I stick with the separate ingredients.

I have a 6 1/2 year old Mastiff named Moose. He is around 155 lbs and has arthritis in his knees. I would love for him to get some of his “git” in his “giddyap” back. Have tried many products in the past and would love to see if this helps him. Thank you!
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
I would love to try this with my sweet girl, Callie. My double-ACL surgery girl is doing much better since I added the camelina oil to her diet; but she has had some discomfort from the arthritis in her left hip since she was a youngster — she ends up doing the walking poop dance quite often — and the surgery on her left knee has only seemed to aggravate it. I would LOVE to see her walking and running, playing and squatting pain-free again! (Of course I will have to run it by our vet, too, but that’s okay.)

Copper is a geriatric GSP in Hawaii (which I’m guessing Amazon doesn’t ship for free to/figures).
At almost 15, I don’t hold my breath for any “magic pill” for him, but as my friend, it’s worth it to me to give anything a shot. I hate giving him chemicals like Rimadyl for the joint issues he has. He doesn’t do well with the side effects/uncontrollable twitching that constantly wakes him from his naps. But the only thing he really enjoys is his daily walk, however abbreviated it is because of his immobility. So maybe this product will help… Here’s to hope!

Mom is sending this to her friend who has a German Shepherd. It might make Rocky feel better when his big, strong legs are hurting him.
Love and licks,
Cupcake

You know Katie my sister is 12 1/2 and has arthritis issues. The Revitamal has been helping her out, but we are always looking for more relief for her. She too licks her paws at times. Maybe this is something that could help her feel better too?
Mary says
I’m so glad that worked for Sampson. It’s always wonderful to find something like that. Alas, don’t enter me in the giveaway. Roxy really NEEDS something like this, but is allergic to shellfish. Maybe you could tell Steve to create a product that doesn’t use glucosomine from shellfish. I have been trying to find a product, but no one makes it….yet.

Would love to win for our senior shepherd Dakota who has hip/mobility issues. Thanks

I am so throwing my name into the hat for this. I’d start off by trying it on BD. I walked him for a few hours the other day and he was so stiff when he got up – he couldn’t put any weight through his back leg. I am begging the ex to take him to the vets but my hands are tied. However giving him a ‘free bottle I won’ to try… well even he isn’t silly enough to say no to that! (Yes, you can hear a violin playing while you read that!)

We have a dog by the name of Rocky who just had to have his left front digits amputated. He is also suffering from ACL problems. He’s 11 and they’re telling us he has cancer. When they amputated the digits they said they hoped they had gotten it all but I’m not sure if that’s the case because the doctor didn’t seem very confident about that. Our choices were the amputation or to put Rock down. We just couldn’t do that so we went with the amputation. He’s doing better than he was two weeks ago when he had the operation but he’s still not himself. I don’t know if Rocky qualifies but I would like to enter his name into the drawing. He is the most beautiful lovable German Shepherd ever and I would like to make him as comfortable and happy as possible. PS I want to thank Cupcake for passing this along to us and I’d like to thank you for the recommendation.

Hi there! I always enjoy reading your stories about Sampson and Delilah! Brie is my sweet 15 year old Collie/Retriever mix. I rescued her from a local shelter when she was just a baby. She has arthritis in her back right knee and has trouble going up stairs and getting in the car without help. Our vet has had her on Previcox, and most recently laser therapy – which has been helping, but it extremely costly.

Of course you know that Steve and I have been in touch, and you are so right that he is easy to work with. We’re still working out what we’re going to do, but he is full of ideas and I can’t believe the generosity in giving away 10 bottles plus a discount for your readers.
It’s just so great to see and hear how wonderful Sampson is doing with this!
Sue says
Jodi, I really would like to give this a try with Jeffie. Since I last wrote you, we’ve been back to the vet, worked with our animal communicator, and now (at her suggestion) will be seeking chiropractic care for Jeffie before any surgery. (And I promise to email soon – it has been crazy here.)

OMD we are SO glad to hear that this has HELPED… THAT is super duper news fur SURE…

I’m very happy for you guys, I would love to start Nelly on this!
Kirsten says
Sounds like a really good company and good product. I tried various similar products for Lamar, but never found one that worked…plus some contained shark cartilage, which I cannot in good conscience purchase.
None of my current pups have arthritis, so don’t enter me for this one–but I’m glad it worked for Sampson!
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
What a great review, so glad it is working with Sampson and how fun to see him play again. I would try it on Nellie, she started limping a small bit after I think the youngsters slammed her one.
Michelle says
I thought I posted my comment yesterday but don’t see it now!! I would love to try my Lola on it. I rescued her in November & she has bad arthrtis in her back legs. Doesn’t help that she is extremely overweight (lots of green beans for her!)
Donna O. says
Wow Jodi…that’s some amazing improvement in Sampson!! Loved the pics of him playing. 🙂 Thanks for hosting this giveaway too. If I won, I’d try it on my Leah. She’s fifteen and has had an ACL repair too, so she has a bit of arthritis in her knee.
Jen says
So glad that you have found something that works for Sampson! Isn’t it great when they get their groove back? (not entering the contest….just wanted to see how it was working!)
2 Brown Dawgs says
Sounds like a great product. Since brown dawgs are already on a supplement, we will beg out of the give-away.
Jeanne Melanson says
I would try this product on my 15 year dog, Jake. He’s a Pointing Retriever and is having a lot of problems with his joints. He seems to be uncomfortable pooping too. Thanks for this opportunity! Good luck to everyone!
Judith Gouveia says
Would love to try this with my at least twelve year old former Bridgeport street dog – Belle. She is a great dog and trying my best to slow down the wear and tear on her joints. Thanks for the information about something that might help.
dawn says
Ricochet would be the one I would use this for. At 13, I really should start him on a supplement even though he isn’t showing joint issues.
Brenda Lee says
Hey Jodie!
I bought my bottle this week after reading a review on Pawsitively Pets site. I was so tickled that Shiner was loving it that I decided to get it for my Titan. Titan has some joint and hind issues and has been on Dasuquin since 2 years old. I received my bottle today (Amazon Prime) and can’t wait to get started! I would love to see my Titan be able to get into my car again without issues and get up without struggling a bit!
Thanks for this fabulous review!

I hAve tried for the last 15 minutes to write something that would not be viewed as spam. There is nothing SPAM about Misty’s swollen ankles and inability to jump anymore. Nor about my Dad’ s dementia and how Misty is one of the last grasps he has on reality. I know I am past the time limit but I wanted you to know I tried before the time expired and don’t know why it keeps saying I am doing spam because I don’t open my heart and pour out Spam. I think this is a terrible way to limit the number of people who can enter your contest and think it is cruel to have someone put these painful things in writing to be rejected without telling me why except to say spam!
Linda Pagano says
you also failed to mention that you are in a different time zone. I was lead to your site by an article about a puppy mill in St Anne, Il which is where I live. I think, but don’t know for sure, the reason it kept rejecting me was because I am not good at computers and didn’t, still don’t for sure, know what was meant by Website and tried to explain that after I put google chrome. I did one of these- google chrome( I don’t know if that’s what you mean because I don’t know much about computers and know nothing about the language) in the box. I don’t know if I just put chrome and no explanation because I figured it wouldn’t get through and if it did it was 5 minutes, I thought past the deadline. None of the comments I read have any mention of a time zone and I only found this at 11:30 my time. You don’t know how crushed I am right now because of the loss of a chance to relieve Misty’s pain and to bring a little joy back into her and my Dad’s lives when she would have been able to sit on her best friends lap and he had his best friend on his lap again. I’m sorry for my anger but hate to lose out on a chance for Misty’s pain to be relieved and my Dad to have something to smile about since they are few and far between since dementia took over our world. Good luck to the people who made the time limit and congratulations to whoever the winner may be because all the dogs deserve a chance at feeling better and regaining what they used to have with their best friends. I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart. I am a long time animal lover and am always happy when something good happens for them since too many of the animals never have any good happen for them.
Linda Pagano says
Thank you so much, Jodi, for not only accepting my entry late but overlooking my ranting. I wish there were words to tell you the joy and happiness that filled my heart when I finally was able to read your e-mail and found out Misty and Dad WON! I really did try hard to get it in on time, so thank you, again, for understanding how hard I tried. I will be sure to let you know how Misty is doing, and Dad also as they are a pair, and quite a pair at that! If I can figure out how to get a picture to your FB page of the 2 of them I will certainly do it, so you can, maybe, see Misty’s tail going 90 miles an hour because she can get on her best friends lap again! GOD BLESS!
