Since Sampson’s ACL surgery our walks have gone from once per day to twice per day. In order to accomplish this our first walk of the day is around 6 am.
This time of year, it’s still dark at 6 am. And some mornings I have a hard time dragging my butt out of bed. But I know Sampson can’t do long walks anymore, I know that Sampson and Delilah both love their walk and I also know how beneficial it for me, to get out and exercise.
As hard as it is sometimes to get up and out in the cold, there are some rewards that go with it.
Usually we don’t encounter a lot of dogs or people, oh and of course there is this.
Of course, exercise and diet are the best way to make sure you and your dog(s) enjoy as many walks as possible. But if that’s not enough and you’re looking for a little inspiration, see below.

That really is the downside of this time of year…the dark o clock mornings. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly

We love our early morning walks in the dark, it is so peaceful and then by the time you get home and the sun comes up, you don’t even remember walking. It’s like a dream that you were out exercising!

Pretty sunrise. It is hard to drag myself outside in the cold and dark. 🙂

I love a good sunrise. Mornings can be a magical time of day.

I admire you – I definitely can’t drag my butt out of bed that early, even though I’d love to see that sunrise. It’s really true about the exercise and it being good for you, though, I just realized yesterday I’d slacked off on our walks lately. Went for a long hike and it felt great!
Say “Hi” to that sunrise for me, will you?
Monika says
Yeah dark isn’t any fun, but oh those spectacular Winter sunrises…so well worth it! 🙂

Just think of this…. Dec. 21st. is the SHORTEST (DARKEST) day of the YEAR… and on the 22nd.. the days start getting LONGER… Isn’t that exciting? We love that thought. It is like a Christmas gift…

I don’t get up that early…but our evening walks are dark:) I’ve actually been enjoying it, and taking the dogs to the park I used to avoid after dark and reveling in the darkness. But there are definitely times I don ‘t feel much motivation, and in those moments I just try to remember that life is not always about enjoyment but about being worthy of the affection of others…and that there’s gotta be a karmic reward out there at some point 🙂

Beautiful sunrise indeed! You see such beauty out on walks, I really need to do it more often.

I think the early morning is the most beautiful part of the day. However, I rarely get up and out there to enjoy it. When I do though, I am always so glad I did!

Thank God for Retirement — I don’t have to drag my butt out of bed at 6:30 any more! And since I moved Ducky’s crate up to the back bedroom, she’s perfectly happy to catch the extra zzzzzz’s like her big sisters. No more barking to wake us all up. But if I need inspiration to get up early, the sunrise would definitely fill the bill!

So pleased to hear someone else struggles to get up in the morning, even when you know it is going to be awesome when you finally get out walking!
