A few years back our daughter’s cat, Bob came to stay with us. Bob Stone (isn’t that the cutest name for a cat?) is quite the character. Unlike some cats, he adjusted quite well to living with dogs. In fact, he adjusted so well, he began to act like a dog. I called him a Cog.
We work on having our dogs sit while we are putzing about in the kitchen. Bob quickly learned that sitting while we worked earned him nibbles of treats.
Many days I would find Bob and Delilah side by side at the french door, watching for chipmunks, or just watching leaves fall.
Bob so wanted to be part of the dog’s pack, he would often times try to climb up on the bed when they were sleeping, but most times the dogs would have none of it. Then he would go sleep in crate, or curl up on one of the dog’s beds.
I did write a little bit about Bob. You can find those stories, here, and here.
I tell you this because I’m beginning to suspect Bob wasn’t the only animal in the house who started to pick up another species traits.
I’m speaking of course about Delilah.
Delilah who seems to think she’s capable of climbing up on the couch and curling up on your lap. Except she can’t figure out how to curl up there.
Delilah who thinks she can catch a chipmunk.
Delilah who has the knack for getting underfoot when you are trying to do something. Like race to the kitchen to check on the food.
While she doesn’t wrap herself around my ankles like a cat can, she does have the uncanny talent of shoving her head between my legs. Since she’s a large dog her head hits me right about crotch level. Quite an unsettling moment when you bend over to pick something up and get shoved in the behind and then licked on the nose.
Or when you’re trying to get ready for work and it looks like you having a baby that looks like a Chocolate lab.
I think the worse thing however is when you rush in the door in a hurry to use the bathroom. Have you ever tried to pull your pants down with a dog’s head between your legs?

Love your hilarious posts! And yes the mommy has to go…bathroom dance happens at our house too. 🙂

That was so funny, thanks for the chuckle!

I do believe you have been peeking in our house. Gus also loves to climb in his daddy’s lap, but cannot figure out how to get comfortable. He weighs around 85 lbs. We figure he must have gotten on his first daddys lap as a puppy and just can’t figure out why he doesn’t “fit”‘ anymore! Wherever I am, so is Gus. If we are watching tv and want to go into the kitchen for a snack, we hesitate if Gus is asleep, because he will race us in the kitchen and be “wild eyed” for a snack.
Delilah just wants to be close to you all of the time! She really bonded with you that first day she came home with you. I seem to remember after a long day she finally fell asleep next to you while you were sitting on the floor petting her. You are her soft place. Of course, she doesn’t want to miss a delicious morsel of food, either! SHES AWFULLY CUTE!

What a confusing house! Mom tells me I’m more like a kitten than a dog I did master the art of curling up on laps and getting underfoot. But that being said, I’m afraid of cats….
Love and licks,

That Delilah is such a character…..lol. Glad we did not get a picture of the bathroom trick. 😉

LOL at the toilet bit. One of our favourite programs. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly

Sorry my comment got cut off…one of our favourite programs is ‘nature watch’ and Molly often tries to curl up on our lap LOL.

Just awww – this is one of the many reasons I love animals. Today your blog just feels like a big warm hug of cuteness!

Our cat bro Bert considers himself a dog. He comes, and also does photo shoots for treats just like we do. He sleeps in our spots, even fights us for OUR spots. The only cat like things Bailie and I do are lying in sun puddles which lots of dogs do, and we like to sleep curled in a ball like cats usually do. Mom knows that bathroom thing well, as she usually has at least two helpers if she tries to go in there right when she gets home.

Aw, how dull and boring our lives would be without our doggies!! Just be careful about straightening back up after that lick on the nose — we don’t want your back going out on you!!

The big cat in this house takes the dog crate and fluffiest bed whenever she wants to – she won’t let anydog in there either! Gracie is a lot like a cat; she cleans herself, climbs around on the back of the couches, and sleeps in the sun.
As for company in the bathroom…let’s just say the person in our house has a lot more than Delilah to contend with!

Bob sounds like a fun cat…and yes, great name.

Totally get that whole bathroom scene. You’d think Sam had a thumb the way he tries to come in and…ahem…’help.’ Happens every single time and you can’t even think about closing the door for privacy. Otherwise you’d have a scratching, snorting cacophony on the other side until you relent. 🙂

Oh no, that’s so funny! Around here it’s just getting into the bathroom that’s a challenge….someone is always between me and the door!
Cats and dogs do seem to learn from each other and have things in common…..and it doesn’t always work out well.
I loved that “Photobobbing”…..cats are so good at that! I know someone named Bob Stone, and I imagine the cat has a better personality…LOL.

So funny. Delilah, Bob did teach you that you are a lap dog, BOL

Photobobbing should definitely be added to the language. Our cat doesn’t try to be a dog, but we all (dogs and humans) would like to do a lot of things only cats can do. Love your graphic imagery.
All Things Collie says
We have a cat that often acts like a dog. She grew up, as a tiny kitten, with two collie puppies. So it’s easy to see why she fits in so well with our gang. She even loves dog cookies! lol

Bob sounds like a cool cat! And Delilah cracks me up. We had a beagle that acted like more of a cat sometimes than a dog. She could be extremely aloof! And she loved to curl up and sleep up on the back of the sofa. Such a nut.
Jen Gabbard says
Bob looks like an awesome cat – I love seeing felines getting along so well (and perhaps emulating) our canine friends. I don’t think I’ve seen another dog do what Delilah does – I know a lot of dogs are leaners but going under your legs is taking it to a whole new level 🙂
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
Bob is handsome, does he still live with you? Gman thinks he is a cat too and lays on the back of the couch.
