Sampson and Delilah get a snack at night. For a while it was a white bone that I filled with pumpkin and Kefir. But since Delilah is a voracious chewer and broke her tooth, I’ve been trying to steer her away from the bones, so we switched back to the Kong.
Delilah also gets a lovely treat when Sampson has therapy. It makes staying home alone bearable for her.
Last week SlimDoggy Kate was looking for an easy treat she could make for SlimDoggy Jack and SlimDoggy Maggie to celebrate their Gotcha Day. I shared this recipe with her and thought I’d share it here with you as well.
Here’s what you’ll need
Bowl or container of your choosing
Canned or freshly stewed pumpkin
Sliced peaches, bananas, blueberries or the fruit of your choice
Kefir
Here’s how I did it.
Put a layer of pumpkin in the bottom of your container
Lay the pieces of fruit on top
Pour the Kefir in making a design of your choosing
Freeze for at least two hours
Remove treat from container and serve.
What I love about this it’s quick, easy and healthy and very versatile. You can customize this treat to include the fruits that your dog loves. In fact, I have a very special one in the freezer right now. Which I will share with you tomorrow, when we celebrate a certain someone’s birthday.
Some words of advice.
Choose your container carefully. I chose clear plastic container not thinking about how the treat would come out.
Epic fail.
If you have a hoover dog like I do, this treat won’t last long.
Delilah had the treat finished before Sampson and I even made it out the door.
Do you make treats for your dogs?

What’s Kefir?
And in other news your blog just sassed me. I hit post comment and I got “ERROR: Your comment was too short. Please try to say something useful.” It was the last bit that nearly had me spitting out my coffee. You blog has judged me and decided my input it not useful – RUDE!!!!

Geez, Lauranne, I usually get half of my comment deleted — at least when I’m on the iPhone — without so much as an “Oops”. LOL

Now THAT is a frozen treat! When mom makes my yogurt/mashed banana/peanut butter frozen treats, she measures out ONE TEASPOON of the mixture and puts it into ice cube trays to freeze. I think I can eat about 50 of them if she’d let me. But she only gives me one a day.
Love and licks and Mom needs a can of pumpkin,

Hoover dog LOL. We have had little time to make treats but we must make some time and try a few things out. Freezing stuff is a good way to keep cool and as it is hot here we must give some of these a go. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

We had to google Kefir, never heard of it. That treat looks fancy enough to serve at a pup party! Frozen treats are great in the summer when it is hot out.

Awesome treat. Does it melt fast? I never heard of kefir so I will need to google that. Fast and easy I like that. I did the plastic in the freezer once too for my treats I made.

I’m glad we aren’t the only ones who had to Google Kefir. You are my dogs’ hero as I am inspired to make some frozen treats for them. You make it seem simple enough even for a slacker such as me.

Oh goody! Someone else has heard of Kefir! I think my SIL actually makes her own…
I’m not a big fan of it. It’s an acquired taste. 🙂
I think you know my answer to “Do you make treats for your dog?”. That’s a big fat yes! I used little glass pudding dishes this weekend to create some frozen treats for Blueberry. Pumpkin with honey, peanut butter with honey and then one with smelly Ramone cheese (I dunno, it might be called something else) and little treats in it. I added water to each of these to dilute everything.
Good job on making treats for the dogs! Sometimes it’s just too hot to turn on the oven and frozen treats are always a crowd pleaser!

I’m really counting on you guys to continue to provide incentive for me to get off my butt and actually make some of these treats for Jack & Maggie. This one is do-able…now if I just had the ingredients 🙂

That looks like a great frozen treat. I tend to make smaller ones but this would be good for when someone has to be left alone.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t know what kefir was. I have a feeling you’ll be explaining it in a future Follow Up Friday post? I googled what it was, but I’m not sure where I would find it?

I ran out of our pumpkin-yogurt treats last week and haven’t had the chance to make more. But I will, tomorrow or Thursday.
You could use the bottom piece of a Kong Wobbler to freeze those treats in — it’s hard enough that it shouldn’t crack. I just use silicone treat molds that I got from Amazon. They work fine for me.

It was a yummy treat. Of course Delilah ate it fast!

That looks delicious! I would probably eat it…

A pumpkin icy cookie. Just be extra careful using peaches (its a fruit that is not good for dogs/cats – the seed contains cyanide). http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/peach
Happy Tasty Tuesday. Golden Woofs

I’ve never heard of kefir before, sounds like it would be delicious with fruit. Maya and Pierson would be lucky if I didn’t eat this treat myself first. 😉
