Typically my dogs pee in the woods, the grass, leaves, gravel, trees, fire hydrants and occasionally a curb.
Once when Sampson was about 15 months old we were traveling to Florida and stopped for the night in North Carolina. Our intent was to get a room and then take Sampson for a nice walk so he could relieve himself and stretch his legs. For some reason we got out of the car and stood in the parking lot a tad too long for Sampson’s needs. So he peed right there in the parking lot and a good long time if I remember correctly. Besides that occasion, I can’t remember him ever peeing on pavement or sidewalk.
And then there was Delilah.
When I walk both dogs I usually head up to the park. It’s easy because Sampson can usually be off leash, which leaves me free to manage Delilah. Of course there were times before Sampson’s tear where I walked both dogs on leash, both around the block and at the park. It’s not my ideal walk but it was doable.
Since my All Star hit the D.L. Delilah’s walks have been largely up to her. I decide when we walk and Delilah decides where. While Sampson is a dog that loves the woods, Delilah is a dog that loves houses. I suspect before she came to us that she spent some time on her own, scavenging for food. When opportunity has presented itself, she heads to a yard and usually be found grazing like a cow.
So it comes as no surprise when Delilah chooses the walk, we usually end up walking around our neighborhood I’ve begun to suspect she’s casing the houses, waiting for her opportunity to strike.
Our neighborhood has no sidewalks, so I walk in the street. Delilah can either walk in the street or she ventures just a tiny bit onto the grass of the neighborhood houses.
She’s surprised me lately because she’s taken to peeing in the road and I had no idea why. Sounds far fetched, right? Here’s your proof.
The first time she did it, she peed on a newspaper that someone had left on the road. (At first she tried to roll on it, then she changed her tune and peed on it.) I suspect many animals have peed on that paper, which is why she continues to pee on it every time we pass it.
I couldn’t figure out WHY she would pee in the middle of the road, on what to my eyes was nothing but pavement. Until one day when she peed on this.
So now I’m suspecting that with her superior nose, she’s smelling things that have long since disappeared from human eyesight.
Unless of course she’s simply being Delilah and just likes peeing in the road.
Have your dogs ever peed on anything you found strange? I know a lot of times my dogs are “marking” but why in the world would she mark a frog?
Jenna,Mark “HuskyCrazed” Drady says
Ah!!! Haha!!!! But why? Oh why would you pee on a frog? BOL crazy pup!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Animalcouriers says
Ours mark pee on smelly things as they aren’t allowed to roll in them, e.g. Boar poo, but we’ve never seen them pee on a dead thing!
Molly The Wally says
No we must be boring and we seldom even leave pee-mail. We like sniffing though. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

Oh no! Poor little frog! Rainstorm from hell on his little Froggy head! OMG. Although they say it’s a good thing to “teach” your dog to pee on various surfaces, Cupcake will only use grass. And if there’s a sprout of that long curly onion grass, THAT’S the perfect spot.
lauranne says
The poor little frog – I can’t tell from the picture is it alive or is in no longer with us? (I assume if it is no longer with us it isn’t because of the pee?!)

Mom’s first dog had been at the Humane Society for a couple months in a kennel. She would only pee and poop on the road for a long time but finally learned to use other areas. On our Florida trip, Mom forgot about Bailie being so little, so we stopped for gas, she took Bailie out and the moment her paws hit the pavement next to the gas pump, she peed, and peed, and peed…it was like a new lake! We laughed and were just thankful it was not in the car! Peeing on a frog is fine…who likes frogs anyway 😉

Sounds a lot like marking which would not surprise me a bit from Delilah. Storm takes to marking in certain situations. lol
Frankie and Ernie says
Can you just HEAR that frog telling his buddies about this?
REALLY GUYZ… furst there was this DARKNESS then there was a WARM Rain. MUST BE SPRING.
Oz the Terrier says
Well, I mark everything but despite living in Florida, with lots of frogs (and dead ones in the road like that one), I have never, ever peed on a frog. That is a bit odd. If only Delilah could talk and tell you WHY?!? BOL
Happy Tuesday,
Oz
Roxy the traveling dog says
Torrey is not super particular about where she pees, unless she is marking a bush or clump of grass. She will pee in the road if that is where we are.

Misty prefers peeing on only the finest lawns in the neighborhood which is why darkness is our old friend. The other dogs prefer holding it to pee on any new smell. They would love a dead frog.
Elizabeth K says
Perhaps it will get warts (offers cheek for slapping). 😉 Dewi pees on Jon Farleigh’s nose sometimes. Totally JF’s fault, though!

My Holly, who is a born show dog, knows that when we arrive at show site that she needs to do her business. She seems to realize that the quicker she pees, the quicker she can get into the dog show, and this girl LIVES for dog shows. So she will pee wherever she can, parking lot, road, sidewalk or grass. Whatever will get her into the show quicker! 🙂

I have no idea!! My dogs pretty much stick to the sand and grass. They’ll pee or poop on our deck, but only when there’s snow on it.
BTW, mine would try to roll on a dead frog….they tried that with a dead mouse just the other day. UGH.
Rebekah says
Poor frog…That is hilarious!
Maggie says
Oh, my gosh. That’s hilarious. She’s just likes to send lots of pee-mail for the other dogs in the neighborhood! 🙂

hahaha awesome! Glory will pee on pavement just like that, she’s a pig and she doesn’t care. Have a great night.
Jen K says
Haha! Oh man. You have the best post titles out there.
I can’t say Moses and Alma have ever peed on a living thing, but both of them will just go on pavement if the mood strikes them. Alma in particular likes light posts and walk signals when we’re paused at a crosswalk or intersection. No idea why – not something she picked up from Moses.
Blueberry's human says
Ahahahahaha!!!!! Delilah is so…unique…
I wonder if she really wanted to eat it or roll in it – decided that might upset you – so opted to whiz on the frog. 😉
