Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer some questions and generally wrap up my week.
Ready? Set? Here we go!
You Make Me Smile – February 23, 2014
These two comments really made me laugh!
Jackie Bouchard said, “Rita did something funny last night. She was outside barking her fool head off – I’m pretty sure at the neighbor’s cat. We called her in, but she wouldn’t come. Then she started shrieking!! My hubs ran out to see what was going on and she came FLYING into the house, looking for momma! I’m pretty sure the cat just ran at her or hissed at her, since I’ve seen that go down before. You should hear her scream…”
Carol Bondy said, “Luke lifted his leg to pee, with all the snow. And fell over on his side…wet my pants funny.
But the Old Bed is SOOOO Comfy!
Vlad and Barkley’s Dee asked, “What I wish you’d tell me is, how do you get a dog to use a bed?”
Jan had a similar question.
I’m not sure I’m the right person to help you train this. I will say that when Sampson was a puppy he was not allowed on the furniture or the bed. He had a crate in the kitchen and his big dog bed in the living room. Since he was a puppy and we were totally enamored, we spent a lot of time on the floor with him. When Delilah joined us, we got her a bed and crate as well. Of course, both of them sleep in our bed during the night. Although in the warmer months Sampson is likely to get down off our bed and use his on the floor. Delilah’s bed (since she insists in sleeping on ours) is in the den by the sliding door. This is where she settles in the afternoon, where she can watch the door and wait for us to come home.
Do you know what I love best about these posts with Delilah? It’s captioning the photos, and imagining what she would say if she could talk.
Sue said, “I’m lucky that they know not to bother me in the bathroom.”
You are indeed lucky Sue. Mine follow me into the bathroom. I suppose they feel like I’m always out there watching them do their business so turn about is fair. 🙂
Jan said, “I’m picturing all this in my mind and laughing uncontrollably”
Thank you. I’m very glad. Sometimes it’s hard for me to know if I’m conveying humor, what’s funny to me isn’t always funny to someone else.
Jackie said, “I think I’m really glad they haven’t invented smellovision yet.”
OMD can you imagine? I will say this though, her loud farts don’t smell. It’s those silent but deadly ones that get you.
Jan K said, “I’ve never really needed that with the girls….they don’t really get underfoot. But it is definitely something I’ll need to teach Luke….he likes to “help” me get ready in the morning by constantly licking me, and actually coming in the shower when I’m trying to dry off!”
Definitely teach this command to Luke! If he’s already “helping” you, you will find it very beneficial to have him in one spot. Sometimes while I’m in the shower, I see a brown image outside the door and when I open it, she will lick the water off my hands.
Animal Couriers said, “We’ve given up trying to separate ours for vet visits – they both come or we suffer the comedy you experienced every time.”
That typically holds true for us as well, but when I have to schedule the appointments during the day and have to go without Hubby, I just can’t handle both dogs.
Emma mentioned plug-ins and Roxy the Traveling Dog asked, “Do you have akismet as part of Jetpack?
I do have akismet and it does catch the comments, but it catches a LOT of comments!
Stacey asked, “Is there a reason to wear the bouncy shoes or are they just for fun?”
I believe it is for exercise. When I was looking for a photo it looked like there are some exercise videos out there!
Carma Poodale said, “Our humane society’s website is wordpress and we get 1000-2000 spam messages a day. You can only clean them out 20 at a time and it takes forever to do.”
My wordpress is set up so I can sort the spam. What I typically do is sort the spam by date of the post, so the spam shows up on my most current post. I then skim through the posts looking at the dates and once I hit a week or two out, I know the rest are spam. Then I use the Empty Spam option and clear it out. I used to got through it page by page but you have to do that too frequently.
Slimdoggy said, “So funny getting one dog out the door…happens here too. Sometimes I can sneak out without waking Maggie, but never Jack and he is so forlorn if I take her and not him. If he only knew it was to the vet.”
Sampson is pathetic and forlorn too. Poor puppy, except he likes going to the vet.
That’s it for me, thanks for hanging in there, have a great weekend!

That bathroom thing is so funny. At home, we let Mom go by herself, but if we are somewhere else at least one of us has to go with her to make sure nothing happens to her. I went with her last weekend at the Pet Expo to the public bathroom. At the most inopportune time I decided to crawl under the stall wall and say “hi” to the lady in the next stall. Mom pulled me back but was not amused 😉 Being a goofy dog, I though it was quite humorous!

I never thought about teaching a dog to use a dog bed. It just sort of happens. With dogs following me in the bathroom, Maya used to do it all the time. And she’d bother me when I was in the shower too. That dog really loves water. But when I got married and my husband said no dogs in the bedroom, they dogs can’t follow me into the bathroom anymore. Probably a good thing.

Thunder and Storm never got dog beds until they were older. We did not have to invite them twice to use the beds…lol. Now they fight over who gets to use which one!
Have a great weekend!

So funny about the bathroom. Luckily, Rita does not feel the need to follow me, although she always runs to check on me when she hears the hair dryer. Not sure if she’s worried for my safety or just concerned cuz she knows that means I’ll be leaving the house soon.
Great Follow up!
