So I get this text from my sister the other night asking if Hubby was home, because she needed his help putting something together.
I told her yes and asked her what and when and then Hubby and I left and took the dogs for a quick walk around the block.
As we approached our house Hubby said, “Is someone at our house? It looks like your sister’s car.”
And then I remembered that my niece and a friend were coming to spend the night to watch a show she didn’t get at home.
Well my sister bought this pair of bouncing shoes and she needed Hubby’s strength to put them together.
I can’t imagine her actually using these shoes, but let’s give her the benefit of the doubt.
Sonofabitch!
She did it, she put those suckers on and started bouncing around my house.
SPAM!
Last week I told you about my problem with spam. I’m not kidding you when I say I get a TON of spam. For the record, at 2:15 yesterday afternoon I emptied my spam folder and cleared out 386 comments (and approved one comment from Jackie Bouchard. FYI Jackie, that’s where your comment went when it disappeared.)
As I schedule this post for tomorrow, it is currently 9:30 and I have 34 spam comments. That’s 7 hours folks.
I know some of you have those “confirm you are human” captchas and I was wondering how you all felt about throwing one of those little check boxes down at the comment section. I wouldn’t make it anything fancy, like “type this…231934335938374342143294-94394” it would just be a little box that you would have to check.
I don’t want to lose comments though, so if it would deter you, please say so and I’ll keep clearing out the spam folder. And there may be times when I deactivate that little feature too, I mean some of those spams are damn funny if you ask me.
I found a little lump on Delilah.
Actually I found it a month or so ago, but with everything that was going on with Sampson, it kept slipping my mind. Besides which, I couldn’t pinpoint exactly where it was to have it checked. Then last week I found it again (under her chin) and I scheduled an appointment to have it checked. That appointment was yesterday morning and I’m very relieved that it is just a cyst. No need to worry.
The funny part of this is Sampson. Since the beginning of January, he has been to the vet at least seven times, each time I give Delilah a lovely frozen Kong and Sampson and I ride off to the vet. Delilah is delighted to have the treat and happily parks herself on the rug to enjoy this unexpected pleasure in peace.
Sampson wasn’t quite as thrilled.
First it was like Laurel and Hardy trying to coordinate. I put Delilah’s collar on and she knew she was going somewhere so she was hot on my heels. And so was Sampson. I tried to give him the Kong, but he wouldn’t take it, so I placed it on the rug. Delilah ran over and tried to grab it. I got her by the collar and coaxed her away and headed toward the door, clipping her leash on once we got there. I opened the door and while I was trying to get Delilah out, Sampson was trying to get out too. I finally got her out and tried to close the door, but Sampson’s head was in the way. When I finally closed the door, he barked. Then instead of going to the rug to enjoy his Kong, he ran to the window and barked at me some more.
Eventually he found his way downstairs to Grandma’s, where he stayed for a good part of the 45 minutes we were gone.
Can you say SPOILED?
Barks and Bytes
First you may have noticed that the pictures in last week’s hop aren’t showing up. Sadly it’s a problem with the Linky tool and they are working on it, but there is nothing we can do about it. Just so you know, it wasn’t anything that you did!!
When Linda and I first started talking about a new blog hop we didn’t know what to call it. Linda wanted something that would be appealing to pet bloggers as well as non-pet bloggers. Eventually we settled on Barks and Bytes. The Barks part caters to the dog bloggers with the Bytes part being spelled the way it is, in the hopes it would appeal to non-dog bloggers as well.
Barks and Bytes is very similar to This ‘N That Thursday as it is so versatile. You can be “barking” about something, have a small (or large) “byte” about something else or totally combine the two. Which is just what I did.
So have you joined us in Barks and Bytes yet? If you have, thank you for supporting this blog hop and if you haven’t what are you waiting for?
Today is Thursday’s Barks and Bytes Blog Hop hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog.

Glad the little lump on Delilah was just a cyst, Jodi 🙂

Glad you only showed my back side in that picture! I am not opposed to the “capture” box, as long as you don’t get too crazy! Glad D’s lump was nothing. (Sorry I forgot to ask! My bad!)

Its it wrong I envy you your spam?? Sounds like quite the adventure getting out the house. I feel I should be reading about it with some of that comedy music playing over the top!!
If you add a little ticky box thing it wouldn’t put me off commenting!
Molly The Wally says
LOL we can just imagine our human bouncing into every bit of furniture and ending up on her butt. Pity about all the spam. If you need to put up verification we’d put up with it. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly

I follow a couple of blogs that have a check box to prove I’m human. The type-in Capcha is annoying, but the check box is no trouble at all.
Animalcouriers says
What a shame you didn’t post a video of your sister in those shoes! I’d suggest she bounced as far away as possible from hard furniture… Glad it was just a cyst. We’ve given up trying to separate ours for vet visits – they both come or we suffer the comedy you experienced every time.

Hi Y’all!
First the pictures, my Human thought it was her computer that was the problem and ran an extra security and virus scan…BOL!!!
Guess Sampson is going to need some practice stayin’ home alone.
As for the spam…my Human found when she stopped allowing anonymous comments the spam disappeared. Before that we got lots of it. Course we’re on Blogger. Those little check boxes are annoying because they are usually below the bottom of the screen, but they sure are better than the captcha that makes you try to decipher blurry letters or numbers.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

I prefer the click that I am not a computer then the long codes, but if they are on, I will do them. the bounce boots are a hoot. Glad Delilah just had a cyst.

My mom would have a blast in those bouncy shoes! How fun! As for the spam, do you have plug ins to prevent it? Just don’t know why you have so much. Maybe I will email you what we have and see if you want to try them if you don’t have them…later when I have some time. As for captcha, hate it, but…there is a blog that has a fun one where you drag a nest to a bird or a bowl to a dog, that kind of stuff that is easy and make you smile, not swear. I think it might be the lazy pit bull but I don’t remember for sure. I would go with that to avoid pissing people off.

You have no idea how happy I am to hear that I’m not the only one who has major problems getting just one dog out the door! I have 3, two are large retrievers and one is a little beagle so if I’m taking either of his big sisters out the door he slips out too because he’s so small. Once I catch him to throw him back in the door I have to close it really quick or else he’s back out with us. No amount of peanut butter filled kongs or pizzle sticks will distract him. And then there’s the incessant beagle baying and howling as we are leaving. I’m sure our neighbors hate us. But if my husband is there to help take one of the dogs to the vet or a class, there are no issues. None. He just takes the dog he wants to go out with and that’s it. I can’t stand it!

Oh, that sounds so much like trying to get out of our house with only one or two of the dogs. The other day we had vet appts and took Luke in for a shot and Cricket for her annual exam. This would be the first time EVER that Sheba got left home alone, and I was concerned about how she’d be. In the past she’s gone completely wild when I’d try to take just one of the dogs somewhere. Luckily we now have the mud room gated off for Luke so we could keep her behind there and get out the door. Much to our surprise she didn’t put up a fuss at all…and we just gave her a small treat before we left (next time I’ll do the kong thing…I didn’t even think of it). She was up in the window calmly watching us leave, and was fine when we got back. Phew.
I do not have a problem with that little checkbox…as long as I don’t have to type in any numbers or letters, I’m fine with it. Wow, you do get a lot of spam so I can see why you would want to do that.
Frankie and Ernie says
Blogger lets us set it up so NO anonymous comments can be left. WE are NOT fans of having to do anythingy EXTRA to leave a comment… Butt we would be glad to TRY the just CHECK the BOX thingy… if it gets rid of the Spam fur you.
Roxy the traveling dog says
I have the little check box, and it doesn’t seem to be a big deal. WAAAYYYYY better than that stupid captcha shit. Do you have akismet as part of Jetpack? That catches tons!! I also have Comment luv that I love for many reasons. One being the super awesome spam catcher that it has. I get maybe 30 spams in a week, that’s not too bad. Let me know if you want more info.
Stacey says
Is there a reason to wear the bouncy shoes or are they just for fun? Just asking if they do something great for a body part like those rocking sneakers.
So glad it was only a cyst! Those little lumps are so scary. They can be nothing or they can be our biggest nightmare.
I really do not mind checking the box but always have trouble with seeing the Captcha numbers clearly. Has never stopped me from commenting but I do greatly prefer the check box.
Enjoyed the post … thanks!
Rebekah says
Those shoes look awesome! I don’t mind checking a box, but don’t really like captcha. I find it particularly annoying when I type out 17 characters only to read “your comment is awaiting moderation…” Bleh.

Spam usually stops or slows down if you change your password. Those shoes are fun only til some buddy gets hurt, BOL

First, those bouncy shoes look SO fun!!!! And I can picture her bouncing around your house! It is SO something I wold do!! hahaha!!!!
The little checkmark box at the bottom is no biggie. Those are much better then having to type a million numbers or letters you can’t even read half the time!
So glad the lump wasn’t serious, that can be scary stuff!!!!

I wish my blogger had a different option than just the capcha. Our humane society’s website is wordpress and we get 1000-2000 spam messages a day. You can only clean them out 20 at a time and it takes forever to do.
Glad the spot wasn’t anything serious!
Maggie says
So glad the lump was a cyst!! Phew! So, here’s my deal with the checkbox thing: It’s not a hassle at all! I just tend to type my comment, click submit, then close the tab… thereby never leaving comments on sites with checkboxes! 🙂 That, however, is a “me” problem.
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
First off, VERY happy that D’s little lump was just a benign cyst!! I’ve gotten to the point with Callie and Shadow where when I do find a new one I just make an appointment with the vet, a mental note of where the thing is, and then forget about it. I know that if it isn’t driving the dog up a wall, it’s probably nothing to worry about. I let the vet check it out and then bring them home.
As for leaving one or the other home? Of course our dogs are spoiled! And why shouldn’t they be?! There have been very few times when I get left one of the “big girls” home while taking the other anywhere. Up until last year, when I HAD TO leave Shadow home alone so I could take Callie to the surgeon for her pre- and post-surgery appointments, I always took both of them to each other’s vet appointments for the “moral support” that only they could give each other. And I always worried about the one at home more than she did herself!
Those bounce shoes are hilarious! I would be one giant bruise mark if I tried to use them!
Last, but not least, the check box thingy is no big deal; but I despise those stupid captcha thingys where you have to type in the letters/numbers — being able to decipher them is more of a pain than typing them!!

So glad to hear Delilah’s little lump was only a cyst! I don’t get a chance to comment to frequently these days, but I don’t mind the “Confirm you’re not a spammer” box at all. I don’t like those crazy blurred numbers and don’t comment on blogs that have them, but the single check box is fine.
Blueberry's Human says
A little check box to confirm I am not a spammer wouldn’t bother me at all. A couple of other blogs have that and it is way easier to do that than to type out letters and numbers I can barely read.
I remember when I had 2 dogs – when I was only taking 1 of them somewhere, this was the routine: Put dog that is staying at home in bedroom, shut door. Take dog that is leaving and place in car (unless it is really hot out in which case this system doesn’t work). Go back into house and release dog from bedroom, throw a treat at said dog and leave the house. It made things a lot simpler for me. Otherwise it was a lot like your (rather funny) routine. 🙂
Phew – only a cyst. With the way it seems like so many dogs have passed the past several months in Blogville – I would have been really worried too! I know our dogs don’t live forever, but just the same, it’s always difficult when they get ill or leave us too soon.

I get tons of spam too and I spend much time sorting through it and wondering why they bother putting it out. I wouldn’t mind checking a box, I wish I had that option, but the captcha thing is more than I can deal with. It took me three times to get it right the last time I had to do one of those. Now i just leave my comment unpublished.
Love your description of the Laurel and Hardy episodes. We get those, but toss in two more dogs and one cat into the mix. I’m quite sure they are out to make me insane.
Jessica says
I’m sure you were relieved that it was just a cyst.
I have to say, space management is the ONE reason that Silas still uses his crate, aside from just going in there to hang out. If he won’t get off my heels and I need to do something, or if someone comes to the door, crate time!
Sand Spring Chesapeakes says
Good God, I never saw such shoes, did you sister fall over or knock stuff over. Too weird for me. Bet it was fun to watch thou. Glad to hear Delilahs lump was just a cyst. I don’t mind the check box but I hate the actual typing in letters.
slimdoggy says
So funny getting one dog out the door…happens here too. Sometimes I can sneak out without waking Maggie, but never Jack and he is so forlorn if I take her and not him. If he only knew it was to the vet. PS wouldn’t mind a confirm checkbox…
Dawn says
I really don’t care for Captcha, but there are other types of spam filters that are easier to read. One of us bloggers somewhere has one where you match pictures, like the nest to the bird or something. I’d do that. Actually, I’d leave a comment no matter what filter you use. But I’d say I have to be really inspired to leave one with the two part Captcha.
BTW, those shoes look like fun! I’d probably break my ankle in them, though. And I’m glad Delilah’s lump was just a cyst. Pierson used to be the same when when I’d take Maya out and not him. But since I have to walk them each separately, and I do it every day, they’ve gotten used to being left behind.
Jackie Bouchard says
Aha! So, that’s where my comment went! I wondered if it went in the spam folder. I think i’ve lost 2 on here recently, but one had the word “douche” in it – so I guessed it might have been deemed spam. 🙂
I’m glad the lump was nothing. Too funny about getting her out the door. If we had 2 dogs there’s pretty much no way Rita would stay behind. Sometimes we can’t even get ourselves out the door without her trying to force her way along for the ride.
I’ve been meaning to join B&B again, but as I mentioned on my blog – i’m really trying to cut down on my blogging at the moment and spend more time writing. In fact… that’s what I’m supposed to be doing right now, so better get on it. Promised I’d do 1200 words today. They won’t write themselves…
2 brown dawgs says
I read somewhere not to empty the spam folder. Let the spam filter do it on their scheduled time. That way the spam filter records the spammers info. But if you added a check, I am OK doing that if it helps keep sanity. 🙂
LOL on the shoes! I am so glad the lump on Delilah was nothing. If you think it is difficult leaving the house with two dogs who want to go along, try three….lol.
