Winter walks

With shorter days in winter a lot of our walks take place in the dark.  Last month many of the houses were decorated for Christmas.  In most instances the decorations were lit up and we passed the houses without incident.

Until we didn’t. Rudolph Run, run Rudolph…

One night we passed a house with Rudolph in the yard, except this night Rudolph wasn’t lit up.  Which caused Miss Delilah to approach cautiously a low growl in her throat.  It took me a second to make out what she was growling at in the dark.

And then I giggled all the way home.

And speaking of Delilah.

There’s this one particular house we pass with two dogs.  These dogs are contained by an electric fence.  One of the dogs is very quiet and just watches us as we pass, BUT the other one likes to posture and run along the yard as we walk by.  This of course gets Delilah all kinds of riled up.  Her posture says, “You want this?  You want a piece of me?”

I usually shorten her leash and try to distract her when those dogs are NOT out, so she gets used to walking by without trying to drag me into their yard.

One lovely weekend day when we had mad amounts of snow, Delilah was determined to get into that yard.  She even tried scaling a snowbank to get there.

Delilah Peeing Oh to have the determination of a Lab.

When two blog hops collide

You’ve heard the saying, “When two worlds collide?”  Well what happens when two blog hops collide?  Come back tomorrow for all the dirty deets.

That’s it for me, join me tomorrow for Follow-Up Friday, when I highlight some comments, answer some questions and wrap up my week!

Many thanks to our hop hosts!

She is determined. I know Torrey would have growled at the reindeer too. Something odd and different.

A dark Rudolph is all kinds of a threat. And what is it with a cliffhanger?

(Pssst! Although I have heard it is now a team of huskies pulling the sleigh)

I love it when dogs get worried about statues and other inanimate objects. Always makes me wonder about their much-ballyhooed sense of smell…don’t they get that that reindeer’s not the real thing?

My mother has a beautifully lifelike ceramic statue of a cat. When Silas saw it the first time, he was *terrified.* We laughed and laughed and laughed. I can just picture you and Delilah and that Rudolph.

Oh boy, Delilah really was determined! Both Kobi and Sheba were climbing snowbanks recently too….trying to follow deer tracks. They didn’t care that their legs sunk in just like Delilah’s did in that photo….and they both have issues with their legs too! Is that where the term “dogged determination” comes from? 🙂

Determined and Labrador are synonyms. 😉 Delilah is too cute. Maya and I went for a fun trip the other day and we were at a stop light when Maya suddenly started barking in a menacing way. It scared me because I thought perhaps a stranger was walking up to my car. But nope. She was barking at a cow-shaped sign in front of a yogurt shop. I was laughing so hard, someone behind me honked their horn because I didn’t realized my light had turned green.

Katie used to have a big fear of lawn ornaments, it was quite embarrassing, but she has lost that, thank goodness!

Thanks for joining TNT! Hops collide…wha? 🙂 Delilah and Storm are soooooo much alike it is scary. She would totally have taken in Rudolf or any old dog…lol. Our neighbor brought a covered trailer home and parked it in his driveway. Guess who barked her fool head off at it. It was different and didn’t belong there. 🙂
