K-9 Kamp Kounselor Delilah here again, updating you on all the things we are doing to get fit and keep K-9 Kamp
F.U.N.
K-9 Kamp is a fun way to help get yourself and your humans in shape, hosted by our friends Koly and Felix at Kol’s Notes, Kelly and Ike at Peggy’s Pet Place and Gretel and Chester at You Did What With Your Weiner.
Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds, tone some jiggly spots or just out to have fun with your canine/human counter part, K-9 Kamp is the place to do it.
There are lots of awesome Kampers participating and lots of awesome prizes, so make sure you stop by the host’s blogs and check it out.
With winter on the way, we need to take advantage of the outdoors as much as we can. Sampson and I have a goal and that’s to help The Mama get into shape and lose some of her unwanted pounds.
Shhh Mama, I’m not going to tell them how out of shape and overweight you really are. All they have to do is look at your photos.
Photos don’t lie Mama.
A couple of years ago Sampson and I were very overweight. We went on a strict raw diet and daily walks and we both lost about 30 pounds. Now we look and feel great!
But what do you think happened to The Mama during that time? Did she get lean and mean like us?
Sadly the answer is no. The Mama has gained weight in the last couple of years and despite our daily walks she hasn’t been able to drop those unwanted pounds.
With the help of K-9 Kamp, Sampson and I set out to change that.
One of the fun things we like to do is play fetch with The Mama.
Traditionally humans play fetch by tossing an object such as a Frisbee and encouraging the dog to go and retrieve it and bring it back.
That’s not how we roll.
We put our own spin on fetch and make The Mama work. You can see what I mean in this video.
We let The Mama throw the disc, and pretend like we are going to bring it back, except we don’t. Sampson holds onto it, while I run back to get The Mama and encourage her to finish her retrieve.
We’re working on getting her to run back for her retrieve instead of walking. What can I say, she’s a work in progress.
Put the effort in Mama, it will pay off.
As for Sampson and I, well sometimes we just like to play a little tug of war with that Frisbee.
It’s that little something extra, that helps keep us fit and trim.
The Mama is saying that she lost some weight this past week, but I haven’t seen the numbers on the scale, so I can’t verify that.
Rest assured Mama, Sampson and I are here to help you. We’ll get that weight off you, I promise.
Put the donut down Mama, it’s not helping your cause.
So how are the rest of you doing? Do you need any tips or suggestions?

Delilah is a tough coach man. Maybe you could hire out her coaching services.
Shoot. I just realized that although I put the linky stuff in my K9 Kamp post a coupla weeks ago, I forgot to actually add my post to the hop. D’oh.
Are you sure Delilah isn’t a Marine Corps Drill Sargeant in disguise? LOL
Seriously, though, if your Mama is really having as tough a time losing weight as you say she is, she might consider having a thyroid panel done. The thyroid controls metabolism, and if it’s not functioning properly, it can be especially difficult to lose weight. I’ve been on thyroid meds myself since infancy and if I forget to take them, I tend to gain a few pounds. And Callie is on thyroid meds, too.
Great job guys…that is one way to keep mum fit. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly
Wow, Delilah is one tough drill sergeant. Who would have thought it looking at that sweet face. The Frisbee game is the way it should be with humans doing the moving.
Wow…didnt know they lost that much weight…thats great
Love this post
Laughing at the video. With three true retrievers here… somebody (or two) always brings the ball/frisbe/whatever back to me!
Great videos, I too have to go after Nellie if I am playing with fun bumpers with the dogs, she takes them and runs off and hoards them then I have to go get them from her. Good job on your weight loss Jodi, keep it up and nice work getting that much weight off your dogs, that is a hard thing to do so I give you alot of credit and keep it up.
None of us are retriever types, so we chase and then that is it, no return. Mom likes to run to get the item and sometimes we take off with it so she can chase us. Give it a try, it works and our mom loves it!
Good work, kids. You’re getting in your exercise, plus you’ve got The Mama on the run. Brilliant!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Delilah means business!
We play a lot of running games with Silas–a good one is to throw the toy, then turn and run the *opposite* direction. It encourages the dog to bring the toy back, but you still get your run in. Also, if you play tug with them, you can let go of the toy and run away. The dog looks at you like a crazy for a second, and then chases you.
Maybe you can put her on a raw diet too? Although, I’m not so sure how good raw donuts would taste…
Delilah you’re a great coach but like your mom there are some pounds on Momz that won’t come off no matter how hard I work her…She tells me it’s cause she’s older than dirt and her metabolism is broken…Now I don’t know what that means, but I think she’s just lazy
Our little beagle is a great retriever, and my throwing arm stays in shape for sure…she’s like the energizer bunny and will just go and go. Our golden “retriever” makes me work for it a little more….now I see what she’s up to. She is like you Delilah – making me work! We went for a nice hike for our K9 Kamp fun, and the girls kept me and my sister moving, so we got quite a workout. Will be writing about it Friday!
Delilah, I declare you are getting as outspoken as Kolchak! That’s one of his favorite games too, though we play it with a ball. Sometimes, I swear I can hear him mocking my slow crappy movements.
LOL Sampson. That is a good way to get everyone involved in working out!
oh we could relate to this post….think they are the ones training us!!!
I do that trick to, and now I can claim that I am doing it to help typist loose weight – thanks for the advice!
Great vids! With coaches like those two, you’re obviously in good hands. 🙂
