Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-up Friday, I’m delighted to be sharing my co-hosting duties with JoAnn from Sand Spring Chesapeakes, if you don’t know Jo-Ann make sure you stop by and see what Norman, Nellie, Glory and G-Man are up to this week.
Follow-Up Friday-October 4, 2013
Blueberry’s Human said, “The leash around the waist actually helps you so you aren’t jerked around as much – your center of gravity helps keep you on your feet. I’ve used the method with a (at the time) 105 pound lab mix and it definitely works. It does take some getting used to though and at first I would still pick up the slack leash in my hand – but eventually I got confident enough to let it go.”
Thanks for sharing that, I’m still unsure though. 😀
A couple of you asked what was Sampson after?
I’m sure I don’t know, I was too afraid he might find it to let him keep digging. 😀
Of Chipmunks, Reflections and Food
Flea said, “Thank you for the ear worm. Not.”
Hey it was stuck in my head, just consider it passing along the love.
2 Brown Dawgs asked, “I am wondering whether she is trailing chipmunks when she takes off on you in the woods and goes to other peoples yards?”
You bring up a good point but the more I think of it, the more I think no and here’s why. When she takes off her head is up and so is her tail, it’s not like she has her nose to the ground tracking something. The last time she went into someone’s yard, she was definitely grazing on something on the ground.
Dawn said, “If you ever get that recipe for Irish cream whiskey, let us know. I was just thinking this morning about how much better my coffee would be if the creamer was really Irish cream whiskey and not just the flavor of.”
You my friend are a girl after my own heart. I actually googled it and found recipes to make Irish Whiskey. Whoo Hoo! I think I might have to try it.
Emma said, “My suggestion would be to use a paw to flatten the cookies.”
That is a PAWESOME idea Emma.
Jackie asked, “Delilah – you could train me anytime. I would follow you anywhere for an M&M or two! (We are talking REAL M&Ms right… not some bunny pellet you found in the forest and tried to pass off as a brown M&M???)”
Yes Miss Jackie, we use real M&M’s for training in this house.
Donna said, “You know Delilah, since she slipped, she might need some desensitization work before you can get her attempt rock climbing again. The M&Ms might not be enough, you might to take a step back and start with baby steps, like asking her to touch a rock with her nose or something. (Make sure you get a photo).”
Delilah here: Donna you made me bark out loud. I love this idea, the Mama’s been tossing the idea of a puppy cam around. I think I’ll work on it.
Basil asked, “Poppies??”
It was a reference to the movie, The Wizard of Oz. The poppies made them sleep and the Mama really wanted to rest.
Pam said, “You usually close up your FUF posts with a second thank you to that week’s co-host. Well, after that, maybe include a sentence that says something like, “If you’d like to co-host next week’s Follow-Up Friday, contact me as soon possible for details!” and let it be first-come, first-serve. Surely at least one blogger will contact you every week. Or have you already tried the “I’ll just let them come to me” method before?”
I have never tried it that way, I think it’s worth a shot. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll let you know.
That’s a wrap to the Follow-Up Friday blog hop co-hosted by Sand Spring Chesapeakes and Heart Like a Dog. Many thanks to Jo-Ann for agreeing to co-host.

I am crazy about that photo of Delilah! Great FUF! Think Pam’s idea is a good one, plus I’d be glad to help out any time. Have a great weekend!

Irish Creme and Whiskey is Mom’s favorite. When the Louise is running off on scent like that it is usually fox. They both have found a lot of squirrel and misc bones when we are working lately, so there is much action out there for them to sniff. Love the picture. Have a great week.

Great FUF post! I have one of my own this morning, I’m just not awake enough yet for the “Linky Love”. Meanwhile, I’d love to co-hostess with you again! I also think Pam has a good idea there — that way you don’t have to scramble looking for a co-host. But my offer to be your “permanent” co-hostess still stands if you decide to go that route…it would give me the push I need to focus on my own blog as well.
And, like “weliveinaflat”, I too always enjoy your “you make me smile/laugh” posts. I should create a blog just for Ducky and name it that…she’s my little entertainer for sure!

My mom said that she will attempt to walk one dog or ten dogs on leashes but she will never ever strap one around her on a hands free leash, she likes to be alive way too much! I think I will come out and visit you and the dogs, I would love to help root out those chipmunks and afterward we can bake pawprint cookies 🙂

Fantastic follow up! I barely have enough time to read blogs, let alone comments. So this follow up with the best of the comments is great. Have a great weekend from Dawn, Maya & Pierson! 🙂

My post isn’t going to make it past draft stage this week. Vet called while I was at grocery store and now we can’t seem to reconnect. Just another one of those days, what can I say?
Flea says
I love co-hosting! Pick me! Pick me!
Pam | Words With Wieners says
Looks like you have several enthusiastic volunteers for co-hosting! Maybe rotate them from week to week? Or you could always have multiple co-hosts, but woof, that’s hard to keep up with.

Great follow-up to a great week! I’ve thought about doing the leash around the waist thing too, but have my doubts. My hubby used to do it with a retractable leash though, and it did seem to work for him.
I’m sure you would have lots of people happy to co-host with you, and Pam’s idea seems good. What exactly does a co-host have to do? I don’t know how to do any of that linky-list stuff, though I’d be happy to learn!

Great FUF post. I’m SO relieved to hear that Delilah is training you with real M&Ms. You never know with her, what kind of mischief she’ll get up to.
Happy Friday!!

I have used the leash around my waist too. It does help to anchor if the dog pulls. Thunder was terrible as a young dog and I used that technique on his 95 pounds. 🙂
About Delilah and the chipmunks…when our dogs hunt birds or rabbits or squirrels, they do not track with their noses to the ground. In fact that is not the normal way a retrieving dog hunts unless they are tracking. They usually have their nose up and only put it down when they are close or on the game. At hunt tests we see trouble if their noses go up when they should be running a blind. That usually means they caught a gunner station or old fall and handling is going to be tough from that point on. Many a hunt test has been failed when their nose “goes up like Snoopy”. Well that is what we call it. lol 🙂

O I am such a geek, you have made my week by mentioning me in your follow up – thank you!
