Chihuahua awarded $100,000 in her owner’s will
The first woman to hold a seat on the NY stock exchange left her little chihuahua $100,000 in her will. More than enough for her friend to provide the care that “Monster Girl” has become accustomed to.
If you have the money, why not? Don’t the majority of us with pets worry what will happen to them if something happens to us?
I know if something were to happen to me Hubby would take decent care of Sampson and Delilah. It’s true he probably would give up the raw food after a couple months of making trips to pick out food and I know they wouldn’t get daily walks in the woods, but he’d probably walk them around the block. But the bottom line is they would stay with someone who loves them and they’d continue life as normally as possible without me.
But what if something happens to both of us? I have one sister and one daughter who would care for them, but life would change dramatically. Still they’d be with people familiar to them, people who love them and hopefully they’d be together.
Sadly there are some animals that don’t have that option. Take this sweet little Corgi, Taya (tay-uh).
Her owner is currently in a nursing home and is not expected to return. At nine years old Taya’s little world is being turned upside down. She is currently being cared for by her owner’s family, but needs to find at home before October 1st. As you can tell Taya is a little bit overweight. That’s because the older gentleman who raised her indulged her a little too much.
Taya is spayed, up to date on her shots, has been regularly groomed and is housebroken. She’s sweet, accustomed to other dogs, and has ignored cats which have come into the yard. Taya does NOT like a crate, since she associates it with a vet.
Taya is currently in Oklahoma, there is a rescue who has agreed to take her if we can’t find her a home. I think it would be far better for Taya, if she only had to move once though, what do you think?
Do you have a plan in place for your pets if something unexpected were to happen to you? Will you share Taya on your social media networks? Did you know this is the Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop founded and hosted by Dogs ‘N Pawz?

Taya is adorable! Hopefully she finds a good home soon!
My first job out of University was at a small law firm where one of my duties was to draft wills and personal directives for clients (it was the most interesting part of the job, by far). One lady whose will I drafted left 25% of her sizeable estate in trust for her 5 westies. Whoever took care of the dogs would have this money to care for them. And there might’ve been a little incentive to the caregiver, too, but I can’t remember the details anymore. At first it sounds a bit silly to leave so much money to dogs, but in reality, it’s pretty smart because it ensures they receive good care after she’s gone. The one slightly absurd requirement, though, was that the dogs all had to remain together after her passing. 5 dogs is a big responsibility to take on for one household!

Hmmm, I do not think Ma has a plan for me if something happens to her and daddy-dog at the same time. I bet my grandma would take me though…but then I would become fat like Taya, because grandma IS the treat lady. I sure hope someone will take Taya in and not have her go to a shelter first. I will share on social for you!

Being a law student, I know it’s important that I consider what would happen to my babes if something happened to me. Luckily, I have the best parents in the world, who adore both of my dogs, so I know they would take them in and give them the best life ever. I’m going to stay completely safe, though, and hope that my Cairns never have to go through anything so horrific. Good luck to Taya! She’s adorable and I know she’ll find a loving forever home 🙂

How sad. We really hope Taya finds a loving home soon. We think someone will fall in love with her right away. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

After being abandoned on purpose, animals that lose their pet parents for any reason and have no where to go is just so very sad! Pet parents need to have a plan!
Animalcouriers says
Covering your animals in your will is a very sensible thing to do. Good luck Taya, you do look lovely.

Sweet Taya. I heard, last night, that someone is taking her home overnight for a trial run. It’s a Corgi lover. We should know by the weekend, but it may not work out. Paws crossed!
Donna says
That’s great news! All paws (and fingers and toes) crossed over here!

What a sweet face, I hope she finds a wonderful home. We have always worried about who would take care of our “kids” if something happened to us – we need a plan!

My mom is the secondary beneficiary on my life insurance policy (if my husband and I were to both die, she would get the money.) I tell her that this is because she’ll also get Silas. Like Oz says, though, grandma IS the treat lady, so Silas would also be fat.
I hope it all works out for Taya.

Wouldn’t it be great if Taya could find a home with someone who likes to walk…She’s have that extra weight off in no time … Hoping she finds a good home soon

Hope she finds a good home! I wonder if Corgi rescue would take her?

There was a case years ago in California where a woman requested in her will that her dog was to be destroyed when she died. Fortunately the will was contested by an animal welfare group and there is now precedent to disallow this request.

Poor Taya! I see SO much of this… owner passes away or goes into a nursing home, and the dog(s) are left with nowhere to go. It’s so hard on the pets to lose their beloved people, and it’s made doubly sad when family doesn’t want to step up and take them. I see the family here is caring for her temporarily, but she’s gotta go, and soon. Sad. I better shush or I’ll have some not nice words to say, and that isn’t fair because I don’t know their situation or why they can’t just keep her.
I pray they find a loving family for her soon… it would be easier on her than having to go to rescue first, but I’m glad that a rescue has at least volunteered to take her.
She’s in Oklahoma? Hmmm… have to ask the hubs about a Corgi 🙂
As for us having a plan… sad to say, but we don’t. We need to do come up with something and I’m going to talk to the hubs about this right away. I have lots of family, but none really equipped to take our two dogs. His sister & family may be able to take them… and they would be treated well, but ehh… not like we treat them. And now that they have new little one… well, the wiens aren’t really kid-friendly. So yeah, my poor sweet ones would be in a pickle. I guess we need to come up wit solid plan sooner than later.

Poor girl. Definitely will share. As for a plan… the kids have been warned – the dogs are getting everything.

I hope Taya finds a home soon….it is sad that family cannot keep her. We don’t have a plan in place, but I know my two sisters would care for our animals if anything were to happen to both of us.

Hi Y’all,
That is so sad and one reason why many elderly people live alone…they worry that they will leave their pet behind to an unknown fate despite making previous arrangements. Hope Taya is lucky and gets a wonderful home!
Y’all come by now,

Do we have a plan? … Hopefully, we will eventually find someone whom we can trust to be Donna’s godparent and know that our dog will be loved if we sadly pass away unexpectedly. If not, the shelter she came from has a commitment to take back and rehome every dog that has ever pass through their door. Have a good week Jodi 🙂

We have shared Taya on both Google+ and Facebook-she is a cutie, hope she finds a home fast.

Poor Taya. Hope she finds a home soon. Where in Oklahoma is she? Sharing.

Such a sweet face. I’m sure your forever home is on is coming soon!
Donna says
Aww….poor sweet girl. Nice that she is good with other dogs and ignores cats. That will make it easier for her to find a home than some other unfortunate dogs I bet.
My mom claims she would take Toby and Leah (Medi would go back to the rescue group and I know they would find her a very good home) but I think after a week of Toby my mom might regret that offer. LOL!

I sure hope Taya finds her forever home really soon, sharing now!
