Welcome to Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.
Joining me this week is my sweet friend JoAnn from Sand Spring Chesapeakes. I love reading about JoAnn’s adventures with Gambler, Glory, Nellie and her heart dog Norman. Not to mention her new little kittie, MK.
Jackie asked, “Why aren’t you supposed to bend down so much? Is that a “rule” when dancing with your dog?”
I’m not really sure, I’ll throw this question out to all my professional friends out there. 😀
Jackie said, “Rita likes her toys strewn about! I pick them all up and toss them back in her basket or on her bed, and then she’ll plop down in the middle of them. Wish I could train her to put them away!”
When Sampson first came to live with us, he took all his toys and put them in his crate. I figured it was because he came from a litter of 10 and never had anything that was HIS. Of course, he doesn’t do THAT anymore!
Those of you with multiple dogs know that sometimes hoarding can become an issue. Thankfully Sampson is so easy going he basically lets her do what she wants. We do monitor the situation though to make sure that his treat is already done before she does her quality control check.
For those who follow me on Facebook you’ll know I’ve named the snake Nagini, after Voldemort’s snake in the Harry Potter series. Apparently Nagini is the name of the snake in Riki Tiki Tavi, but I read that story so long ago I can barely remember it. I just remember being terrified for the little mongoose.
I am planning a whole post on Nagini which should be on Monday, so I’ll respond to questions then and also tell you a bit about what’s been going on at our house with Nagini.
And for those who might have been wondering, my Mama has assured me that there is NO Troll in our basement.
All Things Collie said, “I know how you feel. I ended up blocking one FB friend, because all she posted 24/7 were pictures of dogs who were about to be euthanized.”
There is a newly formed rescue in my town and I friended her page on FB. She posts dogs and I saw one post of hers where she said something along the lines of SHARE THEM ALL. But the reality is, it’s a fine line between sharing and inundating and inundating can turn people off.
2 Brown Dawgs asked, “I take it they have to wait 10 days for quarantine to be up?”
I imagine that is the case, I’ve never actually checked. 🙁
Many of you shared my sadness and sense of hopelessness. When you start looking at the number of homeless animals in this world it can be very depressing and overwhelming.
I had to share this comment from Shoes on the Wrong Feet. I cried when I read it, but in a good way.
“As you just learned from my blog, we adopted a rescue dog several weeks ago. I do not know anyone who has a rescue dog or any experience with one – except you (not that I actually know you – real life know you.) I thought of you and Delilah and the story you told about her being transported and the scary, terror of it all, as we petted and loved on Haley. In a way your story, your experience helped prompt me to open my arms to Haley and invite her into her forever home.”
“You do make a difference, Jodi, you do.”
Thank you Shoes, you will never know how much that means to me.
I want you all to know that you too make a difference. It may not seem like it sometimes and sometimes it is very overwhelming but you ARE making a difference.
Jessica shared that one of the dogs she spotlighted has been adopted.
It does work!
I had a couple of other pictures that might have worked, but unfortunately they are still on my old computer.
Dawn said, “The one I submitted of my Maya is still cute. But if most of the pictures you received are even half as gorgeous as the ones you took of Delilah and Sampson then my Maya’s photo probably doesn’t stand a chance.”
This contest is all about YOU getting your friends and fans to vote. It really has nothing to do with how cute the photo is. It’s sort of like Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars. She had no real talent, but she had a mommy with quite a following. 😉
Molly the Wally said, “It is going to be epic this year. YEA!!!!!”
I think you’re right Molly, it IS going to be epic!
Side note: Does anyone know Pippa the Sheltie? Her mom sent a picture that is too small. Julie and I have both sent e-mails and I’ve left a comment on her blog, but we haven’t had any success in contacting her. I’d hate to have her miss the contest.
Animal Couriers asked, “Poor old Samson – has he had this treatment before?”
No, the last time he went in for his paw he was treated with an anti-inflammatory, and the Holistic Vet gave him some skin drops and liver detox drops. The drops helped for a bit, then they stopped working.
Emma said, ” If you ever notice one of the pups starting to lick all the time, put some Desenex Athletes Foot Powder on the area.”
She got this tip from a breeder. Thank you so much for sharing that Emma!
Pam said, “It’s hard for me not to edit my photos in some way or another. Like hey, this is a perfect picture… you know, except for that whole giant eye booger thing.”
Okay this was my mistake. I should have told you this, I’m putting it on my list for next year’s contest. Julie can take things out of photos. My photo from last year had a paper bag in it but Julie removed it so it didn’t show up on the calendar.
We know that some people are really good with photo editing while others are not and we are trying to keep the playing field as even as possible.
Here is my picture from last year.
The paper bag did not make an appearance in the calendar.
That’s it for this edition of Follow-Up Friday, many thanks to Sand Spring Chesapeakes for co-hosting! Have a great weekend!

Y’all come by now,

Sue at Talking Dogs says
Great follow up, Jodi. I think I’m looking forward to your snake post on Monday…. :-0 Actually, you’ve inspired me to tell a farm snake story that will freak everyone out 🙂

Thanks for hosting. Sometimes that does really go overboard on fb with the posting of homeless animals. We know they are there but some people just post sad pics the entire day and it is irritating because it isn’t like we can help each one and we already know the problem exists. Looking forward to seeing the calendar entries.
Happy Friday!

Terrific FUF! Thank you for letting me co-hostess again. I love to co-host. Man I was having heart palpation’s yesterday at noon when I couldn’t get my puter to work. I just knew that was going to happen. I did the blog post thurs pm was all ready and like a dumbass I didn’t load it to the net. Then I couldn’t get it so I had to hurry and do it on the computer at work. Then last night it started to work! You are a wonderful friend and you do make a difference. You make a difference to all the dogs that need a home and mostly you make a difference to humans. You made a difference to me. I know I can buzz you anytime and you will answer. Thanks for being a friend and doing what you are doing.

Oh my sneaky snakes? Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly

Hope that snake SLITHERS away soon.

Jodi – that is so awesome about Haley! 🙂

We are fans of snakes, so we hope your post is somewhat sympathetic. They get a bad rap when they just want to be our friends.
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
Jodi, you DO make a difference! You and Pamela (Something Wagging…) were among the first to encourage me to hang in there with Ducky last year right after we adopted her from the shelter. And now that very shelter is going through an extremely difficult time. In short, one of the strays they brought in has a confirmed case of canine influenza and ALL of the dogs/puppies on the “Super urgent” list have to be rescued or adopted by 7 PM TONIGHT or they will be pts. It’s tearing my heart to pieces! I just want to go up there and rescue all of them but I can’t. Every day I get an email from the shelter with a list of the super-urgent animals. Most days I can’t even bear to open the email. And Sam doesn’t want to even be told about the poor babies. I had to stop going up there because it was just too overwhelming for me. Just knowing there could be another puppy like my Ducky that needs me and I can’t do anything to save her/him makes me feel like going postal!

Great FUF. I am exhausted reading all the action. The shelter stuff just makes me so sad. I wish I could save them all.
Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says
OH! And about the multi-dog household hoarding thing: I know it WELL! Before Ducky, we rarely had a “hoarding” issue. Callie, like Sampson, is very easy-going and will normally let Shadow take whatever she wants. Shadow isn’t quite as easy, so I always try to keep a kind of relaxed watch over them at meal time. 99 times out of 100, Callie will walk out of the kitchen when she’s finished; but that one time that she doesn’t, I have to be sure she stay clear of Shadow’s area to keep the peace. With Ducky, it’s just easier to close the kitchen doors and stay with her while she eats. One morning when I forgot to close the door, she growled at Shadow and chased her out of the kitchen! As for toys? They get put up at night before I leave to pick up Ducky @ daycare. Sundays are the only time the balls and Nylabones come out and then it’s eagle eye time.

Goodness – that’s a lotta followin’ up.
That’s too bad Sampson doesn’t still put his toys away! And, yes, you do make a difference! Every little bit helps!
Good to know about the editing for next time. I rejected some really cute (IMHO!) shots of Rita cuz there was distracting stuff in the background.
Oh great! I see you have inspired Sue to freak us out with a creepy snake story! Eeek!
Dawn says
So, it’s not a photo contest but a popularity contest! 🙂 I think I’m going to do the inundating thing you talked about, but with Maya’s picture instead. 😉 I agree with All Things Collie to a point. Too much can be overwhelming. On the other hand, some people have a bigger voice than others and so they should use it. It’s a fine balance. Wouldn’t it be great if someday those people had a difficult time finding pets that needed rescued?
All Things Collie says
I can’t wait to see the entries! 🙂

Oh yah, I use to check out shelter pages, but I don’t do it as often now because you are right, sometimes it makes one feel helpless because everyday these pages are just screaming for help for this or that dog that one reaches a threshold at some point. But sharing Donna’s story on our blog is sort of our way of trying to get more awareness for mongrels. They fill up the shelters and they are less adoptable since people prefer small dogs in my country. Shoes note to you is just awesome and I hope someone finds our blog that helpful one day!
Good luck with the calendar!

Can’t wait to hear more about the snake…lol.
One I had issue with finding a photo for the contest is that I edit most of my pictures, (mostly to crop them). I am not sure what I have that aren’t edited. 🙂
Hope you are having a nice weekend.
