When I found out today was the two-year anniversary for the Tasty Tuesday blog hop I wanted to participate. I had the option of baking something, sharing a frozen treat or showing what my dog would do for fruit.
Of course we all know I have the best intentions when it comes to making treats for my dogs but I rarely do. When I’m going in the kitchen to bake it’s generally for myself. I know what a selfish bitch.
I don’t do a lot of new frozen treats and when I do, I usually share them on the hop.
That left me with showing what my dog would do for a piece of fruit. I chose Delilah to represent.
Delilah is food motivated. No secret there. In fact she’s so food motivated it is sometimes difficult to work with her, she’s so damn enthusiastic. One of the first times I used the clicker she was so focused on the food in my hand she couldn’t do anything. I asked a trainer how to get her to focus on something other than the food. She said use a food with a lesser value. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I was using a canned green bean.
It’s a bountiful fruit time in the northeast, yet I had no fresh fruit available, so I turned to my freezer.
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, but it certainly cannot convey Delilah’s enthusiasm for this little bowl of pineapple in my hands.
So we shot a little video. Except I transferred it to the Mac and deleted it from the camera in the process. And I couldn’t upload the video to You Tube.
For the record, I’m pissed off. At You Tube. And myself. But after talking with my IT person at work, I have hopes that I can figure it out, but not until I’m home sitting in front of the Mac.
I’m sorry. I screwed up and you got screwed out of a cute video. With any luck, I will have it available tonight and I will update this post and include the video in This ‘N That Thursday as well as Follow-Up Friday.
Keep your fingers crossed.
Congratulations to Jodi Chick and her awesome blog, Kol’s Notes and her fantastic co-host Sugar the Golden Retriever for sharing and celebrating Tasty Tuesday’s for two years! We look forward to sharing many more with you.
UPDATE: Yes! I figured it out. Without further ado, here is proof of what Delilah will do for a piece of frozen pineapple.
If it doesn’t work, click here.

Canned green bean………really?????

KEEPING THE PAWS CROSSED. I want to see that video. I love that Delilah will do anything for a canned green bean. 🙂

Blueberry would not be nearly so enthusiastic over a canned green bean. If I am offering a low value treat – she’ll usually just leave the room. Smart dog.
Do you also end up with various scratches and/or bruises due to Delilah’s enthusiasm for treats for tricks?
jan says
It’s hard for me to keep my food obsessed dogs from doing all their tricks at once just to see what works.
BTW we call “sit pretty” “be a meerkat.” No respectable dog would “beg.”

I think Mo could perform brain surgery if I offered him a canned pea. Mo is very food motivated, just like Delilah! 😉

We were grilling pineapple this weekend for dessert and gave Moses and Alma some leftovers and I was surprised to see how much they both loved it!
Jessica says
So cute.
The behaviorist told me that she had a client whose very favorite treat was . . . raw collard greens. It wasn’t just something that the dog *would* work for; he genuinely loved them. That story makes me think of Delilah. (Do you even get collard greens up there? They’re similar to kale.)
Silas only likes expensive fruit. Raspberries and cherries he loves. Blueberries are tolerable. Apples and bananas are not acceptable.

Mom and I say that blogging takes a lot of time but seriously all the computer/software crap is what really wastes time! If only things just always worked and we didn’t have to dink around with stuff all the time! Frozen pineapple…never tried it but I bet I would like it. I am not real food motivated. Honestly, about the only thing that motivates me is being the center of attention!

Life should be so simple… and delish! Happy Tasty Tuesday!

I wish Mom will buy me some canned green beans. Or frozen pineapple. Mmmmm…..
Love and licks,

As a kindred Lab owner, I think the question would have been easier to answer if it had been “What WON’T she do for a piece of fruit.”
Sorry about your video, that really sucks. 🙁

Glad you were able to upload the video. Interesting that you use spin command. Mom uses the turn around command. Next time, may we suggest that don’t bend down so much. Make Delilah look at you with the treat … it will help you with your dancing class. Golden Thanks for sharing. Happy Tasty Tuesday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
We are a bit overwhelmed catching up. We appreciate your Barkday Wishes. Lots of Golden Thanks.

Loved the video, and so pleased that someone else is as natural as typist at all the technical stuff!

LOL excellent job Delilah! Glad you got the video to work. Glad Sampson got a treat too.

Great tricks and post. Glad you got the video to work, super cute.

I want you to know that with absolutely zero prompting from me, Rudy and Rosie watched this whole video with great interest! I think they thought you’d offer them a bit at any moment. (They love pineapple) Either that or they were fascinated by Delilah. Jeffie? Jeffie averted his eyes… the boy hates pineapple 🙂
Great video and photos!

Delilah is so cute! Her and my Maya have the same enthusiasm for treats that sometimes makes it challenging to train. It became more challenging after I taught her that spin trick. Now when I get out any treats, both her and Pierson automatically start spinning! I have to make them sit still before I can get them to focus on what trick I want them to do.

We agree Delilah is so cute. We are not so food oriented and certainly not for anything green.
Have a great day.
Best wishes Molly

You won your battle with the computer stuff….good job! How much time do you think gets sucked away from us dealing with that kind of thing? I also won a battle today with something I had been trying to fix on my blog. It’s really quite satisfying when we win, isn’t it? 🙂
Pineapple, hmmm? I’ve never tried that one with my dogs. Kobi would probably be the only one who would like it, the girls don’t care much for fruit. Delilah did great!
