Today is the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop. This hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz, showcases shelter dogs looking for their forever homes.
Of course, my heart barks (no that’s true, I had a cardiogram last week and I heard my heart and it wasn’t beating it was barking) for all dogs.
I’ve noticed as I visit other blogs participating in the hop, that we all tend to try and shine the light on the breed that has the soft spot in our hearts. Mine happens to be Labradors. And since I found out about Black Dog Syndrome, I’ve chosen to focus my efforts on Senior Black Labrador Retrievers in CT looking for their forever homes.
Most senior dogs that find themselves in shelters have already had loving homes and for one reason or another wind up in a shelter. I won’t go into the reasons why they do because that will bring my stress level up and cause my heart to bark harder and then I will want five minutes……alone…in a room….with the owners. And it won’t be to tell them what a nice dog they had.
Sorry about that, the mind wanders when you get to a certain age.
Thankfully we have a couple of great Labrador rescue groups in CT so most of the time, the dogs get pulled and placed in foster care.
This guy right here is Manny.
Petfinder introduces Manny as follows, “Manny is a sweet lovable senior lab who came to us as a stray. We believe he is around 7 years old. He has passed a behavior assessment and ready for a new home. He just wants love. He wants a family to love him in return for all the love and devotion he will give. He loves children of all ages and his favorite thing is talking walks and meeting all the neighbors along the way. If you think Manny could be your newest family member please email right away…he’s waiting.”
If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting Manny, please contact Shana LaPointe at shana2576@gmail.com. Manny is being fostered in New England and I’m sure they’d be happy to arrange transport for you. And if they won’t, you just let me know. I’m sure between us and all the bloggers we know, we can figure something out. 😉

Great story. Manny looks lovely. I find Black Dog Syndrome very sad. Sophia, an extraordinarily talented black lab rescue who often appears on our site, sat for months waiting for Trainer Mom Melissa. She is a very Happy Tail now. Lots of other Black Dog Happy Tails too. Thanks for highlighting.

Breaks my heart. I love black labs and will never understand why people won’t adopt black dogs. Hope he finds a forever home real soon. Thanks for joining the blog hop!

Manny looks wonderful and I’m so glad you are highlighting the older, black dogs. It really is terribly sad that they land up in the shelters and, like you, I cannot bear to think of the reasoning behind it.

Black dogs are great dogs…fur color doesn’t matter much to us except that mom says all us pets have to match. Thankfully I am multi colored so I hold the family together and I have black, so we could have a black pet again…maybe some day.

If I could adopt another dog, it would be a senior. Manny looks to be a sweetie!

So many people just want puppies or young dogs while these older dudes have so much to give. We hope someone will give Manny a home.
Oz the Terrier says
Oh Manny is so precious. If I lived up there (and could afford two dogs) I would scoop him up in a heartbark! I hope someone provides him with a loving home real soon.

He has a very sweet face. (and he is black..and a senior!) I hope someone snaps him up soon!

Doing Lab Rescue for years I was very familiar with the BlackDog Syndrome…it’s how i got my boy Bruno…he’d been in the shelter for almost a year and no one would adopt him cause he was big (105#) and black…and he became the most wonderful dog I ever knew…did you see the Senior Dog contest being sponsored by the Animal History Museum now on FB? I’ve got links today on the blog

Manny is a handsome boy. I wish I could take in every dog that needs it. I torture myself by clicking on the Craigslist free ads every day. At least three dogs a day. Makes me so angry!

Seven is senior? Don’t tell Thunder….lol. But seriously, I hope Manny finds a good home.
Donna says
Hope he finds himself a great home soon. Sevens not that old…I bet he’s got lots of life left in him.
On another note, a cardiogram, huh? Hope everything’s okay. If I missed something, I’m sorry. I am behind again, spending what little free time I have researching mast cell tumors. Sigh.

Yes, we do tend to highlight those breeds near to our hearts, don’t we?
Every time I see a senior pet in a shelter situation…..ugh. Good luck, Manny!
houndstooth says
He’s adorable! I can’t imagine that a sweetheart like that would have to wait too long.

He is just so lovely!!
