I sometimes clip the dog’s front nails at home. However, when they need their back toes clipped I take them to Sara’s.
The reason? Sampson’s quick is very close on his back toes and I’ve made him bleed a couple of times.
A few weeks ago we took the dogs to The Mellow Mutt, so Sara could clip their nails. Sampson and Delilah haven’t seen Sara in a while and were so excited when she came outside.
Oh Auntie Sara, I’ve missed you so!
There was the obligatory sniffing of pee-mail with Sampson running like a lunatic back and forth towards Sara across the parking lot.
Delilah was on leash so Sara started with her nails first.
While she was clipping Delilah, Sampson ran to the door of the shop, pushed it open and ran inside. You could hear him inside rooing with joy.
I looked at Hubby with my mouth open like a tree frog and said, “He just went inside.”
The three of us burst out laughing and Hubby had to go get Sampson and escort him out.
Yo’ Sampson, when did you learn to open doors? I could use some help at home.
Eventually he settled down enough for Sara to clip his nails.
But not before he went into the shop a couple more times.
Silly puppy, who needs thumbs to open doors?

Clever Sampson. Definitely knows how to get what he wants 😀

I love my groomer too but when I figure out that she is going to really groom me, I don’t like her much. Good they aren’t afraid of her since she does their nails.

I think Sampson remembers getting a treat from there and was heading in to find another! One thing Gracie and Henri never forget is who hands out the treat. They go right to the register when we go to Petsmart.

I don’t think he wanted you to know that he can open the door. Now you probably guessed who’s been raiding your fridge in the middle of the night!

Callie and Shadow LOVE their Auntie Andrea, too! She not only grooms them beautifully, but she stays with them whenever Sam and I have to leave them for more than a few hours. And, like the Grandma they never met, Auntie Andrea has the patience of a saint…she loves my girls (even the little demon dog) as tho they were her own. Clever boy, that Sampson!

My Mom gives you credit for even sometimes attempting to do your dog’s claws. Mom always takes me to the groomer for that. She’s lazy.

I don’t like to do nails or anal glands. It isn’t laziness, it’s cowardice.

lol Sampson your so smart, what a fun day. Ok not for the dogs getting their nails cut but to see Sampson going in the shop and having fun. Have a great Memorial Day.

Hmm must have been something good in the shop. We have never had our nails done but Pippin hates it. Have a marvellous Memorial Day Monday.
Best wishes Molly

That’s so funny! And what a great idea to have a pro take care of the back feet. I’ve only nicked the quick on these guys a couple times, but it’s horrific! I think you’ve inspired me to look into a professional groomer!
SUGAR: Golden Woofs says
That’s PAWsome since most dogs fear going to the vet and groomers. Maybe Sampson was looking for treats too. Golden Woofs

LOL silly Sampson. I bet he was hoping to find some treats in there. 🙂

Wow – she must be very gentle if they get excited to see the nail-clipper-lady! Rita hates having her nails done!

Too cute…and love that he was running around “rooing” when he got inside. 🙂

You are one smart dude Sampson 🙂 Did you find any goodies?
Have you ever tried using a grinder on them? I love it because you can’t really cut the quick and it gives a nice smooth finish. I have to work on Maia and Titan yet to get used to it but Cheyenne and Riva don’t mind at all.
