Lisa over at Dogs N Pawz had an awesome idea for a blog hop that features shelter animals.
The idea started when Lisa and her son went to their local shelter to adopt a dog and realized some dogs end up in the no kill shelters for a very long time. She wanted to do something to help showcase these animals so she started the blog hop.

The dog I’ve chosen to focus on today is a senior. Sadly this senior was dropped off at the shelter along with his brother when his dad was deployed. His brother a younger French Bulldog mix was quickly adopted, but poor sweet Bullwinkle has been passed over.
When Bullwinkle’s time ran out, the shelter employees moved him to the lobby where he proved to get along with every person and every dog he met.
American Lab Rescue (where my own sweet Delilah came from) currently has him in boarding. Here’s what his petfinder profile says about him, “Bullwinkle is an easy-going boy who has a way of endearing strangers to him- he has a loveable, goofy personality, and he is looking to spend his golden years with a very special family! He has only known love in his life, and we want that to continue!”
Bullwinkle is 10 years young, weighs in at 99 pounds and has known nothing but love his entire life. He’s neutered, up to date with his required shots and house trained.
You can read more about him on his petfinder page and the rescue’s contact information is there as well.
So many times when people are looking for a dog they overlook the seniors, for the obvious reason as time with them is limited. I used to think that way too. Until I started reading Life at Golden Pines. Kim takes in so many seniors and while I know her heart is sometimes broken when she loses one, the love she receives from these very grateful, loving dogs is immense.
If you’re in CT and looking for a four-legged companion, won’t you consider Bullwinkle? I know he’d be ever so grateful and you’d also be putting a deployed soldier’s mind at ease, knowing his beloved friend was being loved and well cared for.
This is the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop, hosted by Dogs N Pawz.

Hope he finds a good home. I wish shelters did more outreach to pair senior dogs with senior people who may want a dog but due to their age may outlive any dog they take in.

That’s a fabulous idea!!

Poor boy, that is just so sad. Hope he finds a nice home. My sister is 10 and I can’t imagine her going to a shelter.

OMG! He’s precious! I wish I could drive right up there this minute and adopt him! Before we met Ducky, Sam and I decided we would adopt a senior dog when either Callie or Shadow left us to go to the Rainbow Bridge. Neither one of us had any plans for raising another puppy. AND, since before I started this course, I’ve wanted a home on a quiet street, with a huge yard, so I could adopt about 2-3 senior Golden Retrievers and give them as happy a life as possible for whatever time they’d have left. I can dream, can’t I? I would still consider it if I won the lottery.
Back to the blog hop, though — I think it’s a GREAT idea! Once I get my final exam submitted, I’ll have to see what I can do about joining it. If not this week, then next week for sure!

How sad….I don’t know how anyone can drop their dog at a shelter…especially a senior who spent so many years with them…yet it happens all the time. Hope he finds a new – deserving – home soon!
Heart Like A Dog says
I don’t think he had a choice Donna, being deployed and all. 🙁

Good luck, Bullwinkle. You’re gorgeous. I hope somebody takes you home soon.

Our Callie, although not a senior, was in a shelter for over a year. Dropped off as a young pup, she just waited and waited.
We hope that Bullwinkle finds his new forever home soon. Seniors are lovely, we had a foster lab who was ten years old and blind. Still miss him!

It is such a pity that the older dogs are not considered. We hope he does find a forever home soon. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

Love this Blog Hop and am going to check out Life at Golden Pines. I’m with you on the seniors, they are so often overlooked. Our last three adoptees have been seniors and while, yes our time with them is short, I like to think of our place as a really nice retirement home for them. They (Becca, Jack & Maggie) weren’t as lucky as Bullwinkle and had a pretty tough life before they got here, so I’m happy to give them lots of love & peace in their final years.

What a sweet boy! This is just so heartbreaking. I wish there was a rescue set up to take in and foster these dogs when their owners are deployed.
Frankie Furter and Ernie says
Hummmmm I THINK that there is a program that will find FOSTERS for those who are deployed. Does anybuddy remember hearing about that a couple of years back???
Wish Bullwinkle could find a Foster until his furend returns from OVER THERE…

This is a great idea for a blog hop, thanks to Lisa. We will be participating soon.

Dumping a senior dog or cat should have some sort of penalty attached to deter people from doing such a horrible thing.
I love his name – what a beautiful senior boy!

That is so sad:( Poor Bullwinkle. I hope he finds a forever home real soon. As I go through and read about all of these dogs I want to adopt all of them. I’m such a sucker:) I need to live on a great big farm where I can have lots of animals but I don’t think that will ever happen! Thanks for joining the blog hop and thanks again for all the advice you gave me!
Julie says
I love the idea of someone creating a place for pets of deployed service people – it should be some kind of wonderful farm with plenty of room to roam 🙂 I hope he finds a forever home soon!!

I love senior dogs. I wish more people would understand that they may have many years left and they need love to. Thanks for posting up a senior, they need all the help they can get.
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
He’s a great looking boy! Seems you and I were thinking the same thing about senior dogs, my shelter didn’t have any listed so that is a good thing. Nice post Jodi!
Basil says
He is lovely, I hope you will keep us informed of when he finds his home?!! And I hope you don’t mind but I am putting the link to Mary on here as she is a kitten looking for her forever home http://www.harringtonspetfood.com/content/UK/info7

Great post. He certainly does not look 10 years old! Will be sharing and hope he finds a home soon. I love this blog hop and since I share adoptable dogs every week, I’ll be joining in, too.
