Isn’t it strange how we never really notice the leaves on the trees? I asked Hubby the other day. I mean, you see the little buds one day and the next thing you know, Shazam, there are leaves on the trees.
Sure enough a couple of days later I’m driving down my street and I notice some trees have their leaves!
When the hell did that happen? I thought.
I better start paying attention I told myself, otherwise I’m going to miss this amazing transformation entirely.
I made sure to be observant as I walked the dogs on Sunday.
The first thing I noticed was the little yellow flowers. I don’t know what they are called, I’m pretty sure they’re not Forsythia.
I also noticed a few trees on the edge of the field were beginning to sprout, but I avoided the area because last week when we walked over there, the bumble bees were out in force. While I’ve been told they don’t sting as aggressively or hurt as much as yellow jackets, I prefer not to find that out for myself.
I scoured the woods on our walk searching for a tree with buds and finally right near the top of the trail I spied it!
I decided I’m tracking spring this year. I took a picture of the bud on Sunday and then another one yesterday. This year I’m not going to miss this beautiful transformation.
Delilah here: This shit’s lame, I can’t believe she’s resorted to writing this dribble. I mean really, dogs pay attention to these things without having to be told. Do you not understand the beauty of this world we live in, are your lives so busy that you really need to be reminded to enjoy the beauty around you?
This is spring people, spring! The time when the world wakes up from its winter nap, when everything is fresh and new, go out and use your nose! Smell the air, smell the flowers, take some time to enjoy the rebirth of the land.
Now please excuse me, I have some Pee-Mail that requires my attention.
Peace out.

I think this ALL the time! “sn’t it strange how we never really notice the leaves on the trees? I asked Hubby the other day. I mean, you see the little buds one day and the next thing you know, Shazam, there are leaves on the trees.”
We don’t have our buds yet here in Michigan but I am sure enjoying seeing yours!

Same here, one day I had bare rose branches on the rose bushes and all of the sudden it’s green with leaves! Been a crazy year weather wise!

🙂 ! I had to laugh at Delilah’s grumbling because I could just imagine Ducky thinking the same way! Spring sprung down here last week, while I was trying to concentrate on my studying, and I totally missed the transformation. Early last week I saw a few buds on the azaleas in the side yards. Yesterday, while I was walking Callie around the yard, I noticed that both azaleas are in gorgeous full bloom. Even the one that my Dad used to run over every time he pulled into our upper driveway. (It’s had 8 years to recuperate since Dad’s last visit before he was diagnosed with lung cancer.) I think Dad’s Spirit must be watching over that azalea — along with Mom’s Spirit who protected it all those times Dad ran over it. 🙂

Mom say she notices the buds and then all of the sudden there are leaves, we notice the flowering bushes more but now that we have 6 more inches of snow there won’t be much to notice for a while.

This is my fav time of year, I love to see the buds forming and leaves pushing out of the ground. I love the perennials, like a present every year.

You da dog, Delilah!
Frankie Furter and Ernie says
Darn Delilah, Now I gotta go PEE too. Butt I will fur SURE take time to notice the leaves. Peeps are so… @@@@@ie aren’t they?
Oz the Terrier says
BOL Delilah! You know you have to remind the humans to “stop and smell the roses”. They are always in such a hurry to go nowhere that they don’t notice all the beauty around them. Let mom write about the “dribble”…maybe it will wake up some other humans. As for me, I am heading out into the back yard for some lizard chasing! It’s Spring, after all…and the lizards are out in full force!

LOL Delilah is very wise. 🙂
We are finally getting some buds around here. But at our cabin, we still had snow piles here and there. blech

You know it, Delilah. I don’t miss one blade of grass when I’m out in the world. I see it, smell it, taste it, and roll in it, every chance I get. I know I won’t miss spring. I guess Moms have to do what they have to do. We can’t all be superior beings….

Dogs must think our view of the world is absurd. And maybe it is….

I’m glad you’re finally getting some real spring! That was quite a winter you had.
The leaves have been out for ages here. It’s really hard to notice when they do come out, because so many of the trees keep their leaves year round. It really masks the effect. I appreciate your attempt to pay attention, even if Delilah thinks you’re a silly.
Flea says
Oh what fun! Ya big wuss. You won’t go into a cloud of bees? Really? They’re just bees. All so tiny and minding their own business, with their deadly stingers set to stun …
Blueberry's human says
Good call on avoiding the bees!
Our spring is already gone. 🙁 But we did enjoy it while it lasted!
JoAnn Stancer says
Delilah, you funny gal! It often quite often to me that I miss things, in this busy life of ours the simplest and most beautiful things get missed. It is a shame and I do need to take time to “smell the roses”. Have a great day. Can’t wait to follow along your tracking of spring.
Gizmo (@GizmoGeodog) says
Oh Delilah don’t you know you have to be patient with hoomins…They take a while to catch on to things, but we love them anyway
Jodi, I think “tracking Spring” is such nice idea…it happens to quickly here to really keep track so I’ll just enjoy yours
Donna says
I’ve been out and about with the dogs, enjoying my yard, enjoying not wearing a jacket – but I have to also remember to open my eyes and enjoy the changes going on around me. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂

Delilah you are very wise!
I have a long drive to work and I love this time of year because I get to gaze at mother nature awakening after a long winters nap.

We’re just starting to see little signs of spring, a few little wild flowers here and there. I love Delilah’s comments!

Ah Delilah! You crack me up. 🙂 I do so love Spring but you are right about it one day being bare trees and then BAM! leaves and flowers everywhere.
