My ethnicity would be 100% Irish if my mother had only been a bit more particular when choosing her mate.
Ah well, we can’t have everything in life, right? I guess, I’ll just have to settle for 50%.
Wearing of the green, some call it, but I was brought up that Irish Catholics wear green, while Irish Protestants wear orange. As a kid I’d wear orange, but as I grew up I stopped wearing specific colors and instead bedecked myself with hats, pins and ears.
Yes, I have Leprechaun ears.
No, you can’t see a picture.
Our traditions for the day is to have a Corned Beef dinner. This is one of our favorite dinners. We put the Corned Beef into a pot and into that we throw potatoes (a great staple of the Irish,) carrots and cabbage.
If I can find a recipe for Gluten-Free Soda bread, we will have that as well.
I buy enough Corned Beef to have leftovers, because Hubby makes an awesome Corned Beef Hash. Which is as good if not better than the original dinner.
Because I waited until the last-minute, I once again did not plan a photo shoot for today’s post. Instead I slapped my Irish hat on each of the dogs and attempted photos.
Sampson is tolerant, he doesn’t care for it, but he’ll do it.
Delilah not so much, I was lucky enough to snap this before she tossed it off and carried it away.
And just because I can, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Irish Blessings, whose author is unknown.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? If not, what are your cherished ethic celebrations?
Happy St. P Day, from all of us at Heart Like a Dog!!

The pictures are hilarious!! Such good doggies!! If you think it’s difficult getting dogs to sit still with a hat on, you should try balancing a tiara on the tiniest head in the world.
Jodi Stone says
LOL no thanks Genevieve!! I have a hard enough time with these two!
Sue says
Aren’t we ALL Irish on St. Paddy’s Day??
Jodi Stone says

Happy St.Patrick’s Day! Your photos are adorable!
I was craving corned beef and had mine yesterday 🙂
It’s funny, I am Jewish but growing up EVERYONE thought I was Irish…I have green eyes and when I was young, dark hair and fair skin……..I cannot begin to tell you how many people thought I was Irish!
Green is my favorite color so I have adopted the holiday as my own 🙂

We like to celebrate all occasions that come by us, but we aren’t Irish. Why not celebrate all the different occasions in the world if we can. I am sure the pups were ok with your not setting up a fancy photo shoot for them. love the hat!

My grandfather was born in England. He used to say that all men are created equal…except the Irish. I still love corn beef and cabbage one day a year though.

Silly pups! Enjoy your day!!

We are Welsh and French at our house, so no real St Paddy’s stuff here – but I love the pics and the blessing. And between the Welsh and French I’m sure we’ll find it in our hearts to have a toast or two tonight! Happy St Patrick’s Day!!:)
Donna says
Happy St. Patty’s Day Jodi! I was wondering how you got that pic of Delilah. 🙂
We don’t really celebrate it, but won’t pass up corned beef and cabbage if someone else is making it, which someone is tonight – and we’ve been invited. Besides that one crummy hamburger this will be the first beef I’ve had in two and half months! I bet it will be YUM!

A Very Hap-Pee St. Paddy’s Day to ya! Love the cute hats!
Jackie Bouchard says
Cute pics! Happy St. Paddy’s Day. Corned beef & cabbage sounds good. Sometimes we have that on 3/17, but since we’re not Irish (French & German here) we are hit and miss with our celebrating. (In fact, we’re making pizza tonight for dinner… not super Irish.)
We don’t really have any German or French holidays we celebrate – although, living close to the border like we do, we love to have a marg & Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo!

Lila received many compliments today at the dog park because she was wearing a green shamrock hankerchief around her neck! She’s so popular! She wanted to eat some corned beef and cabbage, but I didn’t think it would agree with her so she didn’t get any. She did get some of her usual treats though.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and yours!

Dad was 50-50 Irish German and celebrating with a friends over was a must. Corned Beef, cabbage, carrots, soda bread of course, but we’d also have sweet & sour meatballs and cheese fondue. 🙂
