Of course our Monday Mischief post today just HAS to be on the “Blizzard of 2013.”
Saturday morning after we finally got the dogs outside to potty, Sampson, Delilah and I headed off to our park to check out the situation.
Our park sits smack dab in the middle of a cul-de-sac so naturally all the snow from the plow gets dumped in front.
The plow had already been through at least once, so there was already a good pile of snow in front of the entrance.
You can barely make out the sign for the park but the gate is to the left of the sign and behind all that snow.
I was a little surprised that the dogs just went straight for it, by the time I got my camera out and set to video I missed a good bit of it.
It made me laugh so hard, watching them. (If the video doesn’t work, you can watch it here.)
When we went back later in the day there was SO much snow, we couldn’t even SEE the park sign.
They tried anyway, but gave up pretty quickly. (If the video doesn’t work you can see it here.)
Still I’m a persistent one, so yesterday I threw my shovel in the car and drove up to the park. Using my shovel I notched out ‘steps’ so we could make a final effort.
They ran straight for the opening I’d made. The ‘steps’ worked for climbing up, but I hadn’t thought about the descent. As you’ll note from my comments, one of my legs sank up to my knee and it took a bit for me to get out. While the dogs did get to the gate, the snow inside was too deep for us to walk.
Finally accepting defeat, we walked around the block. (If the video doesn’t work you can view it here.)
I’m fairly certain it will be a while before we can walk in our park, although I may attempt it from the other entrance next week and see if someone has forged a path.
What do you do when you’ve exhausted every means to get what you want?
This is the Monday Mischief Blog Hoop, hosted by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Luna a Dog’s Life and My Brown Newfies.

LOLOLOL looks like they started a new craze, snow swimming! That has to be equal in exercise as a walk in the park!
That’s what I thought! Swimming in snow. LOL I think they were super tired.
I soooo enjoyed these videos and yep I could view them perfectly right on the blog! You are an incredible doggy mama to dig a path for your babies! What amazed me is you have large dogs and the snow was so massive that even they had trouble with it! I have to say it does look pretty though 🙂
Glad you enjoyed them! I had trouble getting them to preview for me, so I figured it was better to provide the links.
It is pretty, but you are right the big dogs couldn’t even deal with the snow!
We go out in that super deep stuff too when we have it. Mom is always amazed at me being so short and just hopping through, but we get exhausted in no time 🙂 It is a great tired, though!
I think mom needs to video that Emma! I’d love to see it and I bet you sleep well after. 🙂
Wow! Now that rally puts it into perspective of how much snow you got! Love watching Sampson and Delilah giving it their all, they are so adorable!
Aw thanks Jen, yes it was a butt load of snow! LOL
Look at those two dogs go…Reminds me of the ice breaker boats chugging through and clearing the way…Nothing stops them…This is a foreign landscape for me these days, so thanks for sharing…We’ve been turned back by flooding and mudholes at times during the rainy season but never anything like this
Holy smokes Gizmo, it was a ton of snow, but compared to mudholes, I think I’ll take the snow!
We need some icebreakers up here, there’s a LOT of snow.
That’s probably the most exercise you’ve ever gotten NOT going to the park. 🙂
LOL you got that right!
They don’t seem too phased by it. I’ll bet they were still tired out when you got home, though.
I hope y’all don’t go stir crazy before it melts enough to really go for a walk. Otherwise we’ll have some *real* Monday Mischief.
Well tonight we’re having rain and I’m hoping it will help melt some snow, combined with the 40 degree temps, well let’s just say we’re crossing everything here! LOL
Well, at least you all had fun TRYING! Man, that’s A LOT of snow! The last time I can remember seeing that much snow was back in the 50’s & 60’s when I was a little girl! We had miniature poodles back then and my brother and I would build snow forts and snow men and then let the dogs knock them over chasing the snowballs we threw at each other. That is what I miss about snow — not having to drive in it. 🙂
Oh what a nice memory Sue! Our weather people say we had this much snow two years ago, but I just don’t remember! LOL
And there was no driving. Period.
PS. The videos worked just fine in the blog for me too — and on the iPod yet! I know you were all happily worn out after that “excursion”! And yes, I AM jealous! I want some snow!!

I can’t believe all that snow!! That’s incredible!!
It is a lot of snow Roxy, I’m wondering what the smaller dogs are doing in this snow, considering the big dogs are having trouble.
Good golly, that is a LOT of snow! It looks like everyone had a good time despite not being able to “walk around” the park. BOL
BOL Oz, yes it is a lot of snow but we made the best of it. 🙂
Oh my! That looks like a lot of fun (and a lot of work, but mostly a lot of fun)! Arie LOVED snow last year, but all we’ve had this year is rain. It looks like your pups had a blast though!
You want some? We’ve got plenty to spare. 🙂
I am so impressed that you took them out in that!!! You win dog mom of the year!!! 🙂
Aw thanks but it’s a much for myself as it is for them. 🙂
What a fun activity, snow swimming. Almost as good as snowball fetch.
I agree that you are dog mom of the year. I enjoyed your forays into the frozen tundra, but I’m more of a watch from the window kind of person.
LOL Jan, you can be my cheerleader. 🙂
Looks like you are Snow Surfing… WE wouldn’t be able to get around at all.
glad that you are all SAFE after Nemo Found YOU.
Thanks Frankie, I’m glad you and Ernie aren’t dealing with it!! You’re mom would have to shovel little paths for you.
That is some DEEP snow! I think you are all very brave taking it on. Whew!
Thanks Genevieve, I don’t feel brave at all.
Oh my, I think you needed snow shoes for that kind of snow. I would have given up after the first time. Good for you for making the cute steps! 🙂
I’ve actually been thinking of snowshoes but I don’t want to pay full price. 🙂 I was thinking about looking at the clearance rack at the ski store.
Great try guys, what a huge snow mountain that was!! Looks like fun to climb though 🙂
If I can’t get what I want I collapse on the floor and do a big sigh, then Mum laughs at me! 🙂
Wags to all
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Loved your videos and Rudy did, too. He came running in all three times to listen to you talk to your dogs 🙂 Looks to me like you got some exercise just climbing the snow pile! Wow. We’ve not had any “real” snow this year and I kind of wish we would… I’d love the dogs to be able to play in it. Especially little Rosie.
It’s looks like Sampson and Delilah still had so much fun!! I have never seen snow like it!
Looks like you had a lot of fun in the snow. Here Bob, Norbert, and Weasley like it but Tubby and Ping will barely go outside
urban hounds
Great idea with the steps Jodi! I wouldn’t thought about the descent either. Maybe bring a sled? LOL! Thanks for sharing the videos – looks like you and the dogs had a lot of fun. 🙂
That’s why I love dogs. They get you outdoors and they don’t mind swimming in snow.
What a hoot! 🙂
You’re such a good dogmom, Jodi. Running in the snow looks much more tiring than running on the beach and in water! I bet it’s a great workout.
the videos are hilarious 🙂 we lucked out – we got a ton of snow, and driving was tough, but it was still completely doable for walking in. and now, of course… melty and rain and ice, so the snow is mostly gone. sigh. i might not get up crosscountry skiing at all this year.
Too funny! Bella has tried to go snow swimming before too – cracks me up every time.
