I’ve posted a couple of times in the last few days about our trip to my sister’s in New Hampshire, this past weekend.
This was probably one of the nicest trips we’ve had in a while and I thought today I’d share some thoughts and pictures from it.
Of course, any time I saw a dog I had to snap a photo.
My sister lives in a small town (population just under 6,000) in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, just about 60 miles from the Canadian border.
If you’ve never been to the north country (as they like to refer to it) you really don’t know what you’re missing. There are so many quaint little shops, everyone seems to know everyone else and if you want to cross Main Street, you simply step off the curb and wave your hand.
Cars stop.
They really do.
As we walked down Main Street towards the herb shop, I wondered why the Barber shop had dog statues in the window.
Turns out they weren’t statues.
Meanwhile, back at the house, I learned if you really want to tire your dog out, take them up and down this hill a couple of times.
Of course, it’s not like they walked down the hill, they loved to run. Which tired them out.
Delilah made herself comfy on her mat on the floor.
When Sampson wasn’t in my sister’s chair, he made himself comfortable on the couch.
The dogs were so tired both nights we were there that:
Delilah did not bother me for her 9 o’clock snack.
She slept on the floor, which is probably the first time since she joined our pack that she slept on the floor.
Yesterday morning she got up, ate breakfast and went back to bed. Another something that has never happened.
Sunday night Sampson was so tired, he fell asleep eating his snack.
You gotta love it, when your dogs need a vacation from their vacation.
Has your dog ever been tired out from vacation?

What a glorious time it looks. Does the poor hound have to stick his head out the window cost he’s too tall?!

Those barbershop dogs did look like statues. I am afraid for the dog in the car, because Mom says no car unless I wear my seatbelt. I don’t think he was wearing his seatbelt. Sampson and Delilah had what is known around here as TOO MUCH FUN! That’s my favorite kind of fun to have.
Love and licks,

Looks like a great place to visit for people and dogs. My girls love vacations. When we lived in Germany we took a lot of them, but here in the US, no so many, more day trips but they love going to new places!

Love your pictures. Especially the dog “statues” in the barber shop.
Honey always comes back from vacation tired out. Mostly its because when we’re around, she doesn’t get her routine 10 hours of sleep a day. 🙂

Great pictures. My 3 still seem to be tired from their long weekend. Amazing how it all works…lol. Our dogs would love that hill and I bet we could get some good training in. The doggies in the window are too cute.
Did you get my email?

Gosh – falling asleep while eating a snack is serious! That’s one tired dog! 🙂
Blueberry isn’t on vacation – but she is pooped from the puppy!

Gorgeous! Next time you’ll have to go the extra 60 miles over the border! It’d be awesome to get to meet you and your dogs one day.

A tired dog is a happy dog and your guys look ecstatic.

Silas *loves* going to visit my inlaws, who have a huge field that he can run around, plus trails in the woods. We were there yesterday, and he hasn’t budged since except to use the bathroom.

Wow – what a gorgeous place!! It’s so nice when the dogs are tired, isn’t it? My dad never understood why we spent so much time trying to wear the dog out – a tired dog is a happy dog!! Looks like a great trip!

Really beautiful pictures–somehow they fill me with happiness. I guess because I grew up in small towns of upper NY state, and will be going among them soon again for a visit.
My dogs were the same after our recent trip to NY–they both slept in their dog beds, just a few feet from each other, snoring deeply, no needy mooching for attention from us and no snarling at each other!

Great photos! Especially loved the one of the old mill with a bit of that white stuff. Sounds like you had a nice holiday 🙂

Beautiful country up there! Decades ago — seems like a whole different lifetime now — I spent a week in Maine (not far from the flagship LL Bean store) and the guy I was dating back then and I took a ride across to the White Mtns. and back. That time in the car wore me out, never mind the poor dog!
Anyway, 2 of the 3 dogs I have now get worn out just playing in the backyard — poor “babies” are senior citizens now — and the 3rd one gets worn out at doggie daycare. Doggie daycare has been a godsend for the 3 dogs and “Mom”! It’s not a “real” vacation, but as far as the 2 older ones are concerned, any time away from the younger one is a vacation. 🙂

It was a great time Jodi! The dogs were great, no incidents and my boys were pooped! Of course JD is never to tired to beg. Love you sister.

Jodi,
The pics are just great, I agree with you, up north is beautiful.
Whenever I take Doggy to the country he gets really tired he sleeps most of the day.

Expect a small furry package in the post. When you’ve tired her out, you can send her back. 🙂
