Today we join our friends at the 2 Brown Dawgs blog for This ‘N That Thursday.
“This ‘N That Thursday is for those times when you want to post about unrelated topics or each topic isn’t quite long enough to make up a whole post. It can be anything you want, so feel free to grab the button and join us!”
Apologies and Thanks:
I’m way over due for this. First I have to apologize to Molly the Wally. Sunday, November 4th our Gone to the Dogs (Human Shaming) post was the focus of share it Sunday. If you’ve never heard of Share It Sunday, go check it out. Every Sunday Molly the Wally showcases a post from someone else’s blog. (Her post today is James Bond related, and I have to say, totally brilliant.)
We have to thank our dear friend Mazzie (and her able assistant) from Mazzie Takes Manhattan for nominating us for Share it Sunday. While I did send Miss Mazzie a message thanking her, I should have thanked her properly in a post.
With all the excitement of the Blogville Calendar along with the work going into the book challenge, I simply fired off the required information and left it at that. Not making excuses, it’s just the way it happened.
I was reminded of my manners by our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs who properly thanked Miss Molly the Wally.
Dear Miss Molly, I apologize profusely for not acknowledging your generosity, and do hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me and I do thank you very, very much for showcasing us on your blog. (BTW the photo your mom submitted for the calendar is adorable!)
Tricks for Treats or Treats for Tricks?
Delilah and I started a tricks class on Tuesday night.
I always have a case of the worries going into a new class, but Delilah seemed fine. We learned four tricks: paw, high-five, wave and paws up.
The first three tricks are all deviations of paw. The last trick, paws up is asking your dog to put their front paws on a chair. No surprise here. Delilah picked that one up quicker than you can say banana chip.
I started giving Delilah the verbal cue almost immediately with this one, since as soon as I held a treat over the chair she put her paws on it.
The instructor came by to check and said, “Wow, that’s great.”
I said that’s because she’s constantly got her paws up at home, I’m usually screaming OFF! (She likes to climb up on the couch and check to see if Hubby left any good snackies up there.)
Our instructor said sometimes by teaching the behavior it stops the unwanted behavior because they will only do it when cued.
From your lip’s to God’s ear instructor, and I do hope you have a direct line.
While we were waiting for class to start, I took this picture with my cell phone. Delilah’s so dark that I usually find it hard to get a good picture.
I love this picture though, I think it’s very complimentary.
Have you ever had any doubts about teaching your dog something? How did it turn out?

Oh that is just the loveliest pic of Delilah. No worries, it was our pleasure to host your hilarious blog post which was very much loved by our Blogville pals who missed it originally. Thank you for your kind comment re Bond. Although we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here we have a special for all our American pals tomorrow. Hope you will enjoy it. Have a terrific Thursday.
Best wishes Molly

Delilah is very beautiful. I study all the time. Most of the time, I can learn things even though my brain is so tiny. I am still not getting “Fetch”. Why doesn’t it mean “Get the ball and bring it on the couch.”?
You’re my idol, D.
Love and licks,

I had my doubts when I tried to teach Blueberry “around” and “other way” where she spins around clockwise or counter clockwise, but finally after a couple of months – I no longer need to use a treat to guide her in the spin. Sometimes she’ll spin around all on her own when she wants me to give her a treat! I admit, it’s not exactly a handy trick – but it sure is cute!

She is quite adorable 😉 We tried to teach Cali to put her toys back in her toy basket. Never happened 🙁 I think we spent too much time laughing because she was so interested in the treats, she couldn’t remember what she was supposed to be doing! Sounds like a fun class!!

You are definitely cute – and deserving of all the treats! 🙂
Hey, any idea when the calender will be available for purchase? (I realize the voting on pictures comes first, but I was wondering if you had a date for the calenders to go to the printer?) I was thinking they would make nice Christmas gifts!

And we decided to teac one of our dogs, Lad, to “bow.” It took a LONG time, but one day he just got it! 🙂
Pamela | Something Wagging This Way Comes says
To most dogs, Paws Up means “find a good position to get something off the counter.”
I’ve also heard that putting a behavior you don’t like on cue can help you stop it. I’m not a clever enough trainer to pull it off. But I’d love to try it for Honey’s attention barking.
Can’t wait to hear about all the tricks Delilah learns. I’d work on “do the dishes” or “mop the floor.” 🙂

Yay for Tricks Class! That’s great. I wish my trainers would start something like that as it would be so much fun. I know you and Delilah will have such a great time. She’s kind of a ringer, I am sure, too with all she already knows and her swift brain. I can’t wait to read more about it. Maybe it’ll provide some inspiration!

Great picture. Delilah looks like she is ready to be the star of the class.

She is precious!

That is a great picture of her!
Elka has a lot of paw tricks, so it’s neat to hear that your trick class started out with them.

Great picture, black dogs are hard to capture – I should know!

Thanks for participating in This ‘N That Thursday. I get only tiny credit for thanking Molly The Wally properly because as you know I was late…lol. This time of year is crazier than normal, or maybe it is just me. teehee
I love that picture of Delilah. She looks like a puppy in it. 🙂 I think a tricks class sounds like a load of fun!

Oops and see forgot to thank you again for nominating us for the Share It Sunday guest blog. 🙂

What a fab picture! The paws up sounds good, do you think it would work getting a dog to put his paws onto the back of a car so we can lift the rest of him in? Please can I point out that is a typist question I do not go around shoving dogs that are bigger than me into the boot of a car!!
