Today is our first Co-Hosted, Follow-Up Friday blog hop. I’d like to give a special thanks to Hawk at Brown Dog CBR and his mom, for joining me on this crazy trip. Hawk’s mom shared that she sometimes struggles with technology, as do I so you can imagine, what a feat this was to pull off! (If we even did it.)
For those new to the blog, my follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.
You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog. Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you. Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby!
Whoops Where’s Delilah – Author’s Note
It may not look it in the picture but that rock is actually quite high and my dog is quite fearless. I’ve actually seen her run up an almost straight incline on a rock, causing me to gasp and actually wonder if she really wasn’t part mountain goat.
Her jumping off that rock should NOT have come as a surprise to me, yet somehow, here I am five and a half years later still being surprised by the crazy antics of my dog.
Sampson’s Saga Continues – Update
Sampson went to the vet last night for his re-check. (He’s been on the Meloxicam for just over two weeks.) We got out regular vet last night, she took one look and said he’s got a bacterial skin infection. He is currently on antibiotic and will be re-checked in two weeks. She also recommends continuing with the Aloe, which really seems to be helping.
The mark on the inside of his leg which I thought was a bruise? My vet explained the pigment color in Sampson’s skin has changed due to a low-grade infection.
Had I taken him to the vet a couple of weeks ago when we first noticed it, he probably wouldn’t have broken out. I feel like such a bad dog owner. 🙁
One on One – Author’s Note
Some of you said you walk two dogs at the same time and make a game of it, I think that’s cool. Some of you said you vary the schedule which I think is what I am going to do.
When I can, I want to walk the dogs by themselves.
I think this will accomplish a number of things.
1) It will be easier for me to work with them one on one.
2) It will give them each an opportunity to spend time with me.
3) Their personalities can shine through without being shadowed by the other.
4) It will vary their exercise routine making it more interesting all around.
Personally I think varied exercise program is stimulating for their minds as well as their bodies.
Do you vary your dog’s exercise program? If so, what types of exercise do you include?
This is the Follow-Up Friday blog hop, hosted by Heart Like A Dog and Brown Dog CBR. Why don’t you grab the link and join us?

Hi Y’all,
My belly looks like that any time I lay down in the grass…which is lots now that I’m gettin’ close to 7. It also looks even worse if I get something to eat to which I’m allergic.
In the summer I get my allergy shots every 3 weeks instead of every 4…they are perscription from the human lab…so don’t feel like a bad dog owner and tell Sampson to stop complaining, he’s lucky, his will clear up and go away. By the way, I take pills everyday twice a day too.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

I don’t think it is bad that you waited to take Sampson to the vet. He may have been able to fight it off without antibiotic. Hope it clears up quickly.
Have a nice weekend!

Great job on pulling the blog hop off Jodi!
Glad to hear that Sampson is going to be ok:)
I usually walk the dogs together but sometimes I feel the need for one on one time with them and I will walk them separately.

Oh, skin issues are the worst at making you feel guilty. There’s just such a grey area. “Is that a bug bite? Or the beginning of a rash?” And then, for us, Silas’s will respond pretty well to topical treatment, until I realize it’s been six weeks and I’m still chasing it from one spot to the next.
You did just fine.

HI Jodi,
HAven’t got used to dropping by your new site yet…I’m a little computer challenged. I’ll try and join you next week for FUF. great stuff!!
BTW…I usually walk my two together, can’t get out of the house without one or the other:) but, that okay we have 80 acres to explore.
Have a great day.

Hey that looks just like the skin thing Blue had! http://peacefuldog.blogspot.com/2012/09/exfoliating-with-scrubba-scrubba-bath.html Chlorhexidine shampoo and cephalexin is what we used, successfully.
Walking one on one is wonderful, I love to do it whenever I can. Its so peaceful I almost feel spoiled when I do it –can’t believe walking can be that relaxing and easy!
Murray's Mouth says
Ugh I battle skin issues with Murray too. He went through mange shots as a pup and several steroid allergy shots. Also, medications, shampoos..the works. Learned he is allergic to sulfur through a scary reaction… so lots of meds and shampoos were off limits. Been having the most luck with keeping things in his life as “natural” as possible. High quality “grain free” foods, veggies, fish oil, natural shampoo baths…I even found witch hazel to work in helping keep his skin clear. He gets what appears to be like infected clogged pores. Not such fun stuff. Good luck!

Don’t beat yourself up over not taking him to the vet, I don’t think it was wrong for you to wait, it could have very well resolved itself.
One on one time is always very nice to do and can be rewarding for dog and owner 🙂
Great follow-up Friday post!!

Hi Jodi,
Great job on getting the blog hop going! 🙂
I like to walk together with Cosmo – in fact he loves it too and is always ready and waiting at the gate, but then we don’t live together, just next door, so we may not be as keen if we lived together?
Hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Jet says
Hey Sampson, Hey Delilah, Jet here. Hi Miss Jodi.
Sorry we missed the link up, we’ll catch ya next week for sure. 🙂
So sad to read about Sampson… aloe is a wonderful plant, did you know that you can take it internally also? Yup… Mom says it tastes TERRIBLE, although nowadays, they know how to mask the flavor better than 15 years ago! Not sure if K9s can drink it, maybe Miss Linda would know…
Please give him extra Jetty kisses and JJ hugs for us. xoxoxoxo

You are so not a bad owner, you noticed that something was wrong with Sampson and monitored the situation!! You are fab, don’t forget that!! Hugs

You’re not a bad dog owner at all. You took good care of Sammy! Glad he’s on the mend.
